The United Kingdom of Rykeia

Nestled in the Pacific Ocean near the latitude 40 degrees north rested the archipelago nation of Rykeia. White sand beaches melted into the ocean that supplied the coastal fishing villages with their nutritional supplies. Rolling rain-soaked hills punctuated the larger islands, with small towns and trading communites nestled along inlets and harbors. Small fishing boats dot the channels and the occasional large freighter passes into the main port of Varenik in order to load its supply of uranium ore.

The capital of Rykesgrad lay to the north of Varenik, near the uranium mines on the main island of Paxia, and it was here where the tall William Blair sat upon a high-seated wicker throne, shaded by large deciduous trees. A short dark haired man entered the patio and handed Blair a small black leather folder and a silver pen. "Thank you, Victor."

The folder contained the signatures of the delegates of the main villages and islands and organizations on the archipelago. After five years of deliberation, the time had come to form a coherent political structure that would serve the larger interests of the region. Differeing opinions on political structure and representation and policy concerns had stalled the unification process, but eventually the delegates had come to an agreement.

The United Kingdom of Rykeia, a constitutional monarchy with a monarch to be appointed at a later date from several of the tribal kingdoms on the archipelago and a parliament with two different congresses, the Senate - an upper body to decide upon issues of national policy and specifically international affairs, and the Council of Nations to decide more upon domestic issues such as taxation and trade disputes. And to head it all would be the Council of Ministers, the prime minister to act as the head of government. Elections within the islands had establised that Blair was to be the president of the united islands, who would then formally establish the kingdom and become the prime minister. He took the pen in his right hand, smiled, looked up at the clear blue skies and signed the piece of paper. He handed the folder back to Victor, "Today is the dawn of a bright new day, my friend. Go and proclaim the kingdom to the people."
