Help needed in research (Open Space RP)

"We're ready to begin. Readying the Sub-Space Motivator, opening the Node, crossing the Sub-space threshold in 3.....2.....1.... contact maintained! It's .... it's ..... it's losing molecular composition. We have complete breakdown. ****! I thought we had it this time."

John Stanbenson, professor of Astrophysics at the Klonor Space Corps Academy, backed away from the console. With a violent shudder he knocks his papers off the desk, collapsing in a sobbing heap.

"John, don't worry. We'll get it. It'll just take some time."

That'd be George Smithey, the foremost man in the field of Sub-Space physics.

"A little more research, maybe 2 or 3 more drones, and I'm sure we'll suceed. Don't worry. In a year or two we'll look back at Jump-Node travel and laugh."

John, recovering a bit and holding back his sobs, angirly responds

"But it should have worked now! I don't care about 2 or 3 years in the future. We had everything figured out. It should have worked!"

"Should have, but didn't. Listen, the inter-system Sub-Space fabric just isn't strong enough. We need to strengthen it, or none of our calculations will be worth a damn thing."

"Fine, back to square one."

"How about we speed things up. We've been going in circles for months now. Why don't we bring in some new blood?"

"Who? Charles? Steve? Yashile? (All of them being other highly respected scientists) We've been over it before, they can't help."

"I was thinking more along the lines of somebody outside of Klonor. Lets transmit a request, see if any other scientists can help. Maybe some other nation can lend a hand."

OOC: Okay, as can probably be surmised, I'm looking for other nations to send scientists to help my scientists discover a way to commence Sub-Space travel without a Jump-Node. I'm doing this so that when I do spring a non-Jump-Node voyage I don't get all the "Godmod" yells that I usually do

Well, not in space/future tech... Mainly in modern and fantasy...

Scientists from the Planck Research and Investigation Institute read the information on the failed attempts to open a sub-space transcient..

"Do you think that the Klonorian Sub-Space motivator could work if we aplied our idea to it?.."

"I have no idea.. what we have are theories, we do not have yet the technology to try.. much less a way to create and store the exotic matter our theories say we would need for such a thing.."

"Well, perhaps their scientists do.. or could have.. why dont we sent them what we have and see if they can work with it.. i would certaily love to work with them in this project.."

As the scientis nod they begin to prepare the paper with their theories to be sent to the scientists of Klonor..

Re: Theory

According to our theories during the initial 'capture' of a wormhole from the quantum foam, negative energy alone is used to 'grab' the wormhole as it momentarily expands from the sea of quantum interactions. The energy captures the hole, holds it open and expands it enough to thread it with exotic matter which then takes over the job of holding the hole open.

We have thought about your Sub-Space Motivator and we think it could be used to help hold the transcient open by injecting exotic matter over the edge of the Sub-Space portal in a steady stream to strengthen the fabric of Sub-Space and make it possible to function.

Of course.. Exotic matter is is usually conceptualized as being very similar in appearance/structure to neutronium: A very dense and massive substance that is made up of exotic particles jammed very tightly together.

Re: Re: Theory

We have looked over your "exotic matter" theory, and are quite interested. However, we have numerous questions.

1) How is this "exotic matter" created? Is it naturally occuring, or manufactured in a laboratory? If it is natural, what kind of methods are required to mine it? If it is manufactured, what equipment is necessary and what is the cost?

2) How is the "exotic matter" injected into Sub-Space while still maintaining it's own molecular integrity?

3) If a solution is found to the second problem, would the amount of exotic matter vary due to the distance of the travel or would it remain constant? If it shifts, how much is required per light-year.? if it remains constant, how much is necessar per trip?

Please respond in a prompt matter. We thank you for your assistance.

OOC: Interesting, Klonor. But my subspace is different than your subspace (I use the Star Trek version of it), and there's nothing in my universe of science that's like your subspace. My personal opinion is that (near) instantaneous travel from one point to another takes the fun out of a battle. So, I won't ever use your version of subspace, and I'm not going to RP fighting against anyone who does. But hey, good luck with it.

OOC: Yeah, a lot of people use Star Trek subspace. That's actually a real problem for me, whenever I mention mine everybody always thinks I mean the ST version so we get into huge arguments over what happens.

And what do you mean intantaneous? Are you kidding? It takes almost a day to go from my capital star system to Earth. Actually, it takes longer since we can't go on a direct path. We have to go to Vasuda, Antares, Beta Aquilae, Delta Serpentis, and then to Sol. The new research that I'm working on in this RP will be able to lower that time to a day, instead of dozens.

We still on no contact?

OOC: I meant near-instantaneous for within a system, such as when in a pitched battle. That's when the difference is too big for me to consider RPing with. But other than that aspect of RP, I'm perfectly fine with RPing with you.

OOC: Okay. It's always good to know that there's one less nation out there trying to kill me

Anyways.... wanna join in this RP? There's no combat

OOC: Sorry. Like I said, this tech doesn't exist in my universe of gameplay (which is why I don't RP battles with anyone who uses it), and so it'll be kinda hypocritical of me to be helping research the technology when such technology is impossible in my realm of science fiction. I wish you lots of fun with it, though.

OOC: This is a good point. However, I must point out that Star Trek Warp FTL is faster than my FTL (at least, the higher Warps). Warp 7 and higher are all faster than Sub-Space travel.

Oh, well. Maybe some other time
