About your opinion on n00bs

25-01-2004, 17:28
Me, OpperNomad Djukah of Come and Go has been in Nation States for just over a week now.

Here, on the forum, I noticed some whining about n00bs.

And so I would like to ask you: What do you think?

I am fairly new here as well. But I have noticed a rather large amount of complete and utter morons joing NS.

I also, have noticed that a lot of the nOObs are, how should I put it, whiny little snots who think they know everything.

Just a bit of advice, if you are gong to make a political post, make sure you have your facts straight or that you have a valid argument. Becaue trust me the people who have been here longer WILL shoot you down.

Just a bit of advice.

True, many of the so-called "Veterans" of NS will shoot you down if you are a "N00b." No matter how you argue it, it is discrimination! Most people get one idea about the new members, and stay with it. It doesn't matter if they are good, or not. Too many of NS veterans just consider the new members as "stupid wastes of time." I, for one, love to see new members. If they post something I view intelligent, then I am willing to give them my support. If they post something I deem unworthy of the forums, then it was purely their own mistake. One thing leads to another, and if you crackdown on the "n00bs" then you merely are a grumpy conservative.

Actually, on the contrary, we do not mind "newbs."

The definition of a "newb" is: One that is new to something, especially a novice at using computer technology or the Internet.

The definition of a "n00b" is: One that is new to something but it also annoying and extremely stupid. Examples of n00bishness are spamming, stupid posts, flaming, etc.

You guys are newbs, so we realize that y'all are all new to this. N00bs are just annoying.

About the 'newb' and talking about myself:

For sure this isn't me: a novice at using computer technology or the internet.

I just made a posting that some of you might consider annoying and extremely stupid!

Am I a 'newb' or a 'n00b' or maybe something else?

No, neighter!

I am OpperNomad Djukah of Come and Go, intend to stay here untill I'm bored with you!

There is nothing insulting about the term "newb". And it doesn't necessarily imply being new to computers, just being new to NS. We were all newbs at first.

Your question comes from having misunderstood the difference between "newbs" (who are welcome) and "n00bs" (for whom we have IGNORE canons).

My opinion on "n00bs" is that they often misplace things.. like puting general forum posts in the NationStates forum..

Noobs are annoying because they are new. Looking back, I must have been a pain. I think new nations should get more pointers, advice and told how to do things, otherwise they just ask all the time and it's irritating.

This goes in the Gameplay Forum, n00b.

This thread was not needed. This is just going to be a bitch fest with the same things being said as we have said over and over. What the hell are you expecting? Someone to stand up and defend the n00bs? Fair enough, some people flame when the n00b could be educated, but please.

This is like those modernvsfuture threads, only worse. We already know that n00bs are bad.

Well, lets put it this way:

I am pretty new to NationStates UNIVERSE of Role Playing, NOT Nation Moderation, such as controlling a nation, just ROLE PLAYING THE NATION. However, if there is one thing I have learned these past few months here its that if you make a mi8stake, don't whine, just GO ON WITH IT.

Look, I was a Veteran, a Legend, and an Elite on other RP boards of Different Universes. But each time I go to a new one I MUST BECOME A NEWBIE THERE TO BECOME A HIGHER RESPECTIVE RANK. Although I hate it, most likely dispize it, IT IS NESSESARRY FOR THE PROPER DEVELOPMENT OF ROLE PLAYING SKILLS!

If one is NOT a newbie when he starts, then ONE CANNOT learn the RIGHT way by beginning at the START, not the Middle or FINISH of the race. Even as I know a lot about Role Playing, I still must learn, and I still accept the fact that indeed I am still a newbie here. BUT I AM TRYING, I will try to gain my respect, and I WILL NOT let go of what I earn.

Because, once you show you have grown the knowledge of that certain universes ways of RPing, you are, indeed, growing from Newbie, to Novice, to Regular, to Veteran, to Elite, perhaps to LEGENDARY.

Who knows, maybe, if I put my time into it, I will put my BEST into role playing here. If I can do that, perhaps I will become instead of Newbie a Regular, or Novice. Then perhaps Regular or Veteran.

This is how I go, this is how I see it. I will always strive to learn, never insulting them who know more than me here. Because, in the end, isn't Role Playing ALL ABOUT Learning and doing more things that one hasn't learnt yet, improving those skills of RP? :D

This goes in the Gameplay Forum, n00b.*sigh* You don't even know the levels of Nebiedom, do you? They are Newbs. Not n00bs.

Newbie: A new player.
Newb: A new player who makes mistakes, but is trying to learn.
n00bie: A new player making a lot of mistakes and not caring too much.
n00b: A player that has become a pain in the ass and revels in that.
Elder n00b: A n00b that sticks around for five months.
Reverted n00b: An older nation that goes off the deep end after months of constructive RP and acts like a n00b.

OOC:

By your way, I'm a Newb! Wow, good choice! Anywho, allow me, if I may, show my Respective Ranks for Role Playing:

Newbie: One who has started to play in a certain Role Playing Universe.
Novice: One who has started and has participated in the Role Playing Universe. A Novice has made mistakes, but has shown a great to certain level of concern for learning the proper way.
Standard: One who has surpassed the level of Novice Role Playing by showing expectional skill in Learning a certian RP Universe ways of Role Playing. A Standard is also one who has shown improvment in overall mistakes and how to go about in the process of correction with mistakes.
Regular: One who has surpassed the level of Standard Role Playing by showing great skill in learning a certain RP Universe ways of Role Playing and by showing expectional skill in mistakes and the process of correction of mistakes.
Veteran: One who has shown skill surpassing that of Standard. A Veteran Role Player is also one who Role Play's with a good eye for mistakes and a good concern for how his Role Playing is with fellow RPers.
Elite: One who has shown so much skill in Role Playing that all who see either complement or congradulate an Elite on his Role Playing and how much an example it shows to the rest of this Role Playing Universe's Community. An Elite Role Player is the highest most go when RPing in that certian Universe of Role Playing. It is a very respected rank higher than Veteran, whereas Veteran is a respected person yet is still in the process of minor learning.

Legendary/Legend: One whom has surpassed all the odds and has gained the highest of respect for his/her skills of Role Playing. Legendary Role Players are also ones whom have fought the odds and have prooved themselves worthy of being a proper example for Newbies to learn from. A Legendary Role Player is also one who has RPed a certain Universe's ways of Role Playing for some time and has been seen as a Regular in the eyes of many, being upped from Elite to Legend in skills as they improve.

It's funny, alot of the older nations can be labeled as whiney snot nosed brats too with how they think they own the forums an how the so called 'n00bs' shouldnt be alowed to play here.

Reading some of the opinions people have of n00bs is quite disturbing and I fail to understand what gives them the right to stalk an badger these players into disappearing from the forums and the game entirely. You dont own the forums, if Max and [violet] think they are not breaking the rules then why the hell should you make them leave?

They have just as much right to post here as everyone else, just because you (the players not the posters here) think they can't RP doesnt give you the right to harrass them into leaving. This is a game, it's meant to be fun Let them have their fun and get over yourselves.

IF they are not ruining your threads or interrupting your fun why should you do that to them? So what if they claim lots of weapons it's a GAME let them have their fun. Nobody is forcing you to read their threads. This problem we all suffer at some point is called elitism, it's a disease and it threatens us all.

The only cure is for people with nation ages larger than 2003 and hell even 2003 nations should think about this. You do not own the forums, you are just using them. You have no say in what is classed as RP and what isnt. Since nobody makes you read their threads you have no right to bitch and moan. Get over it all and let these people have their fun.

Arrogence is bad. Remember that.
