International Sports Federation

25-01-2004, 13:33
The Digit4lian Minister of Atheletics wishes to propose in an open forum the foundation of an International Sports Federation. The ISF would govern and administer centrally all international sporting competitions.

(OOC)
I just had the idea to take sporting RP off site. It would allow for deeper game play for those interested in sports/international sports.

There are a bunch of sim games that can be used to run leagues or tournaments. Personally, I have a baseball sim (Out of the Park 5) and a soccer sim (FIFA 2004, although I can't find a disc for it right now).

It would be real easy to set up and administer leagues/tournaments. I'm sure with the braintrust here, we could develop a site that would have smaller forums, league tables, schedules, etc.

If this idea gains support, I wouldn't change the way the World Cup is run, but I would offer them space on the site to upload rankings/tables/results/schedules so people aren't digging through topics trying to find information.

Hmmmm. I'm going to mention this in the World Cup Committee IRC channel. I don't know what people will make of it there.

If we were going to have the NationStates teams in there, it would have to wait until the new version of FIFA 2004 Creation Centre comes out in March as the current version of this can't create new teams. :O

I think RPing it as it is now is fun and I don't won't to install any software that doesn't run on my slightly improved 8086 computer. Also, I use Linux and will never use the OS you need for FIFA while being sane!

There are several ways around the problems mentioned.
If the soccer tournaments were run w/ the current EA FIFA game, teams from the game could be drawn & assigned to nations with names substitued. Or, since it could take a while to get everything together, we could just wait until the new Creation Center is released.

There are other soccer sims out as well, even some decent free ware games.

The baseball sim game I have can generate random players, and schedules are totally customizable.

For people who don't want to buy games/download new software. Simming could be handled by a league commissioner.

Or games could be run just as they are now, but moved to an off-site forum so that participants are digging around all the other threads looking for them. And they would also have a page they can go to for their schedule/tables/results, rather than digging through old threads 30 pages long.

First: there are surely not many free (open-source) sims, which run with Linux, MacOS and windows (in all used versions). I also don't want to stay up till 3am because my opponent is in another timezone. thumps down for this idea!
