Calling All Corporations
Come to the Disputed Territories of Southern Wastes!
Looking for somewhere which'll let you do pretty much what the hell you please?
Then the Southern Wastes is for you my friend.
The Southern Wastes is a rogue nation made up of a ruin city ready for you to build anything from a small wahrehouse to a toxic waste dump.
Labour is cheap as long as you pay them enough to eat.
Gangs will offer their services to take out rivals for a fee.
The government only asks for a one-off fee of $5,000 when you start building and you're free to build what the hell you want without paying any bother to any regs.
So come to the Southern Wastes today.

Manupilcorp inc. (state-owned) is interrested 550 sq. meter.
will the costs still be 5000 or will it be higher because of the size of the area?

My friend, the price will still be $5000 no matter how much land wanted as the government only asks for it as a one-off fee.
The price also includes short term protection of your 'holdings' in Southern Wastes from the gangs.
Nonetheless, we look forwards to your payment.

In that case we will start transporting materials for the construction of the "grey river" biogenetic DNA/RNA R&D plant.

Acting as agent for a client preferring anonymity, Tranest Corporation has opened an account at Bank of Rienne, Ceyce, in the name of the Southern Wastes government, and deposited $10,000 for two lots, separated by at least 3,000 meters.
Lot one should be 12,500 sq. meters; lot two should be about 3,400 sq. meters. Neither should have any blockage to airspace, as we will be installing hoverports; both should have groundwater tables no deeper than 38 meters. Neither should be on known geographic fault lines or seismically active geological formations.
Upon receipt of the geographic coordinates of said lots, we will forward to you the number of the Bank of Rienne account.
After that, there will be no need for your operatives or designates to provide security. Tranest Security will handle all security operations during facilities construction. Upon completion and handover of the facilities to our client, they will assume security responsibilities.

The government of the Southern Wastes accepts your offer, but however has no knowledge of geographic fault lines or seismically active geological formations in the said area. Thou it is known that a complete sewer system and disused underground rail network exists, but these have never been.......um......er........'fully' scouted out for various reasons.

Wyndahl handed the communication from Southern Wastes government over to Lindarn Rett, a Very Important Executive from Tranest's Private Contracting subdivision, without comment. (It was never smart to comment on the activities of the Private Contracting arm of the Tranest Corporation. They had no sense of humor and took security matters so very seriously, indeed.)
The slender, young-looking Rumlian smiled thinly as he read it. "Really. This could hardly be more interesting."
He reached into an inner pocket of his rather foppishly-cut tunic and pulled out a datachip, dropping it into Wyndahl's inport. A detailed map of the Southern Wastes area, with three-dimensional overlays showing geological, topographical, and other analyis, popped onto the fixer's reader. Two areas, one large, one smaller, were highlighted.
"These will do. Forward the coordinates to the SW government and set up the blind account at Rienne Central."
The thin smile widened to a feral-looking grin. "And tell Morit that we have the go ahead. They should ready the disinfectant units for deployment."

Might we suggest the old dockland area?
Dispite the surrounding area lying in ruins, the dockland area is still largely 'intact'. Worthly of being mentioned is that the extensive rail yards in this area alone have survived quite well and are on the whole self-contained with full facilities, then again there is a large market in scrap metal we believe.

Feldahl Morit, Operations Manager for Tranest Private Contracting, was meeting with two Field Supervisors.
"You drop simultaneously. Fortress 127 will release all three hoverlanders midway between the two coordinates, at T=0. Landers 1 & 3 will go to site Alpha, 3 to site Beta. Drop the homing beacons first, then the disinfectant cannisters. Each cannister's load is pre-calculated for precise coverage."
"At T+0.06, drop the dispersal fans. T+0.11, drop the advance landers with their loads. They will have 15 minutes to establish preliminary perimeters with the explosive trip barriers, and set up the proximity warnings."
One of the Field Supervisors, Ged Brokenknife, frowned. "Why are we bothering with proximity warnings? I thought there were no indigenes except unauthorized surplus-- gangs and so on?"
Morit shrugged. "Fixers. Candy-asses."
The Field Sups rolled their eyes, and subsided.
"Once the perimeters are down, regular stage one deployment can begin. Task Groups One and Two will commence full perimeter construction, Groups Two and Four will do full survey-- topo, geo, seismo. Five, Six and Seven will handle operational security, Five and Seven at Alpha, Six at Beta. We want full IR, sonic, and duplo sounding by T+2.30."
"Apparently there's some kind of network of subterranean tunnels-- sewers, rails, who the hell knows what. As soon as the survey teams locate a viable entry head in each zone, Task Groups Eight and Nine will drop and begin digging."
"We have a fifteen-foot caradium structural framework, disassembled, to anchor the permanent perimeters. I want those sites sealed off from prying eyes by T+6.0. Clear?"
The Field Supervisors nodded, and left.
Morit pinged the Client Rep. "We're on schedule. The subterranean modifications we discussed will be forwarded through the usual channels for your approval in..." he checked the timetick at the corner of his display, "eleven minutes."
The words "message received" appeared in text on his display. He pinged his secretary for the next contract file.

The THS National Corporation Union would like to purchase 4 square kilometers of land for r&d purposes... prepare for fireworks, and we will send in our own guards.
To: The Southern Wastes Diplomats
From: Vrak Trade Division
Subject: Land for development
We would like to purchase 2 square kilometers of land, preferably with at least 500 meters of sea access. Consider the deposit wired via our overseas Power Banking branch.
edit: We forgot to ask if further expansion requires more deposits to the government.
OOC: Will some kind of map be forthcoming? That is, and hopefully without putting words into other people's mouths that have posted in this thread, I'm certain someone would be willing to help out.
To THS National Corporation Union and Vrak Trade Division
We accept your offer and the land you have requested is currently being marked out.

We would like to order an area of 5 square km. The $5,000 is on route, no special location is required, just that it has two large, open areas fit for underground construction.

Sure, we have knowledge of old large capacity bunkers and there is the main central station of the old underground rail network. We believe these could of use to you.

Ribenese monorail corporations would be most interested in working in the Southern Wastes, and modernising your public transport infrastructure. Could you tell us the present state of public transport?
Also, Ribenia would be honoured if we could open an embassy in your nation. We would bring our own guards.

The undergound rail network we're unsure of, but the surface rail network seems to have fared quite well. The rail network is 3rd rail powered if you understand what we mean.
Oh, by all means open an embassy.

Southern Wastes is now a Protectorate of the Confederacy of SteamEarth. This news comes after SteamEarth gave planes to the armed forces of the Southern Wastes.
Any military contacts from corporations given to Southern Wastes will be relaid onto SteamEarth.

We now have a map showing all the sectors of the ruined city which makes up the Southern Wastes. The crosses are sectors believed to have been hit by an a-bomb during the atomic civil war some 20 years ago.
A total of six nukes were dropped on the city but one failed to explode.

With your permission, we will begin investigating the underground rail network, in the hopes of re-opening it to business.
Ambassador Kuninobu is on his way now. Could our embassy and corporation headquarters be located in sector 4? And would our citizens require anti-radiation preventive treatment and/or protective garments?
We hope this is the beginning of friendly and profitable relations between our peoples.
the Ribenese government
The Protectorate of Southern Wastes is a large, economically powerful nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 29 million are either ruled by a small, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.
The medium-sized, pro-business government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Commerce. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 8%. A robust private sector is led by the Automobile Manufacturing, Arms Manufacturing, and Uranium Mining industries.
Employers may fire workers without giving any reason, corporations donate huge sums of money to favored politicians, the government is reigning in public spending, and military spending recently hit a new high. Crime is a problem. Southern Wastes's national animal is the Graboid, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the pound.
Southern Wastes is ranked 6th in the region and 91,956th in the world for Best Weather.

the Ribenese government
To the Ribenese Government,
You may begin investigating the underground rail network, in the hopes of re-opening it to business, but the nation as of late has a Graboid problem so be careful.
As for the embassy and corporation headquarters being located in sector 4, that shouldn't be a problem and the sector has been declared 'safe' for the past 15 years.
Protectorate of Southern Wastes
“Well, this is a mess.”
A Ribenese worker stood on the platform of an abandoned underground station, looking down at the rotting rails, then round at the remains of advertisements posters on the walls, relics of a long-forgotten era. The voices of his colleagues and of the Ribenese soldiers accompanying them for protection echoed around him.
The time and effort it was going to take to restore the underground rail complex was mind-blowing. Still, he supposed, it was a challenge. His country seemed to have pledged to get this ruined nation back on its feet. A Ribenese embassy had been opened, and Ribenese soldiers were fanning out over the land in search of huge, mysterious predators...
And that was what worried him. Any number of those creatures could be lurking in the disused underground tunnels. He shuddered.
They would just have to be careful…

Once we have finished revitilising your underground railway system, we would like to suggest re-opening the river (canal?). This would entail one of two processes:
- decontamination of area 22
- the construction of a new canal branch through sectors 16, 21 and 34, to link sectors 15 and 33.
Which do you believe would be the most feasible?
As the Emperor of Kubilai, all of my businesses are under my guidance. I will gladly send you the required funds if you will let me have land away from the city and all ruined areas, in fresh green land if available. My automobile industry can employ your workers for a low minimum wage, I am sure? If so, I would gladly build a plant there posthaste, and sell my automobiles to your government for a modest price...
Also, as this would begin profitable relations for us both, I would extend my hand in friendship and through my ambassador, perhaps we could come to an alliance...

That depends on which costs the least.
Plus also its really up to you on which you think will be the best option.
BTW The underground rail network and some parts of the surface lines have been handed over for use by the SteamEarth military, anything relating to the rail network will be repliad onto SteamEarth's War Office.

Of course, in view of the fact Menelmacar is in charge of the Docklands area, no re-opening of river activity (at least to and from the sea) will be initiated by the Ribenese government or companies without prior consultation of and coordination with Menelmacar, or the Southern Wastes or SteamEarth authorities.
Decontamination of sector 22 will however be carried out by Ribenese corporations, as per agreement with the Southern Wastes government.
