A shady looking fellow greets you as you take the ruins surrounding you. A few men looking like soldiers carrying rifles but they seem to be somewhat relaxed but give you a stare of hatred none the less. You turn round to hear what your 'guide' has to say. "Welcome ladies and gents to the Southern Wastes, god knows how big a pile of ruins in the whole ruins."

Before carrying on, he points to a tatted flag hanging over a nearby doorway of what was once a domed building. "That there is the nationial flag of the Southern Wastes which somebody stole from somewhere and the looks of things by that square in the top corner, a colony of SteamEarth. Anyway that domed building serves as the seat of government around here."

The guide walks a couple of steps and turns round. "Oh, I nearly forgot. [he gesters to the armed men] As on our part of providing protection, a fee is required of, lets say, 500 notes of your money from each of you."

After travelling for some time the 'guide' hand signals that the group will stop for a rest. Once the group is settled, the guide starts to tell of the local history.

"It is believed by many that these very ruins were my folks rised me were the result of a war, some believe even a nuclear bombarment as there is an unexploded nuke sitting in what is know known as 'Nuke Square'. [he sees the nervous looks on the faces of many in the group and quickly adds] Even thou the background radiation is believed to be quite high, its not deemed to be harmful. Thou night time it is best that you stay indoors.

The area were we are now is quite lightly demage [he says this as a four story apartment block collaspes into a nearby canal], thou the worst damage you see is the result of recent weather. You know lots of rain rusts metal and rusted metal is so weak. [a steel gider bridge part collaspes as one of the piers break loose] As I said, rusted metal is so very, very, very weak. Lets move on shall we?"

Nice concept! Keep it up. :)

Oh yes, something unquine.

I was inspired about a story in a Sci-Fi comic, 2000AD, which featured a ruin city as a back dorp and it grew from there.

The guide leads you through a wrecked rail yard and past some ruined factories, using an oil drum as a stand he addresses the group once more.

"Ladies and gents, what you now see before you now is the Southern Wastes' Industrial Sector. A prime site for development and it is the location for our paper industry.

Wharehouses are scattered throughout in blocks surrounding the great roofless hulks of the factories themselves. Chimmey stacks tower alone over piles of rubble and wndowless walls.

Since the war this whole area has seen a down turn in its fortune with only scavenagers forming the locals. The great engines and machines stand slient, exposed to the elements. All the things needed to run a successful scrap company, if I may say so my self.

Oh and one last thing, anybody looking for gifts? Be warned, those scavenagers can drive a hard bargin........"
