The massive freighter slowed to a stop in Mars Orbit, its light point defense watching for debris left from the recent battles in Mars orbit. And then, shuttles began to separate.
The first 10,000 colonists for the Sentient Mars colony.
A second freighter, and a third, were behind the first, and they too began to disgorge colonists. 30,000 total in the first wave
A fourth freighter, this one under direct charter to the government, deployed something different. Mining equipment, directly to the middle of the triangle formed by the three arcologies.
Lots and lots of heavy duty mining equipment.
It would be used to build a base for fighters and Space Marines. 144 Longswords, 24 Broadswords, and a full Regiment of Marines. That would be the colony’s entire defensive force.
But none of it was present yet.
But more colonists were on the way. Soon, all too soon, the echoing hum of the power plants would be overwhelmed by the scuff of feet, and the sounds of voices going about their daily lives. Over three million Federation residents were scheduled to make the move in the coming few months.
