There was scandal today as the rankings and group draw was announced for the world cup handball championships in Rejistania. The director of Telewest sport has declared that manager Symon Harsorna, is incapable of getting the team past the first stage after he was caught reading 'Handball made simple - the pop up edition'. This comes just weeks after he was accused of sleeping his way to the top. Quite how he did that seeing the directors of sport are all male is anyone's guess, but this reporter will bet his house that Harsorna isn't averse to a little sausage.
The rankings were no surprise to Telewest, who have been seeded last (along with the other newcomers)and the draw was as difficult as expected. With 2 top seeds (Cockbill Street and NEWI Cefn Druids) to contend with, no-one in Telewest is expecting very much from the team. The only light at the end of the tunnel (however dim it may be) is the fact that we have also drawn handball newcomers Delicious Frankfurters, though whether their manager is having to study childrens books of the game is anyones guess.
The whole of Telewst will be watching this, their first entry into an international competition, with baited breath. Bets are on, sickies have been thrown, and 'handball made simple' is a bestseller. God help us all.

Orange-Blues will meet Progressa
The first Handball World Cup will start in a few days. It is a special event for the Rejistanians because it is the first Handball World Cup, which they have the honor to co-cost. that this is the first World Cup outside of Cockbill Street only raises the expectations. The groups C and D are hosted in Rejistania, while the matches of groups A and B will take place in The Belmore Family. Since both nations are not in the same time-zone, the matches won't take place at excatly the same time.

The Orange-Whites will meet Kaze Progressa on the first matchday. The last match between the two sides took place in the first Cup and ended in a victory for the Orange-Whites. The Progressans didn't participate in the last cup for some undisclosed reasons, but are still a team which will be a challenge for the Orange-Whites. The other teams in the group, Towlieban and Celtico are new in this tournament and little is know about them. The staff of the KaMaRi Update wishes the Orange-Whites good luck!

Blues Antsy for TBF Match
Hoping to beat them on their home court
The Belmore Family Desk -- TEAM KOR3A arrived in The Belmore Family today, jerseys and equipment in tow, to practice for their first match, which will undoubtably be their hardest within their group. KOR3A, ranked 4th overall, is going up against The Belmore Family, ranked 12th but with a dangerous home-court advantage. The players looked in shape and ready to go, but there was also a hint of nervousness in the air. A TEAM KOR3A player who declined to be named told our reporters Wednesday he was "just hoping we don't blow our chances on our first outing." Indeed, all of KOR3A hopes the Blues won't. Fans of all nationalities have turned out in record numbers to TBF's stadia for these events and KOR3ANS have been among the most prolific in their ticket buying. Said KOR3AN fan Burt Ong: "We are very proud of KOR3A when we watch the Blues play. They are the first KOR3AN team to achieve any measure of success and give our nation hope for becoming internationally renowned. Go Blues!" The Daily Planet similarly wishes the Blues the best of luck in their sure-to-be-challenging first match.

Tickets Sold Out!!!

Tickets for the match between Telewest and Cockbill Street have sold out in record time. On the morning of sale, the Telewestian company Ticketmiester reported that 4 of their staff had to be carted off in ambulances due to exhaustion and stress. One was reported to be spending time in an institution after getting up from her seat, stripping off and repeating 'I am a fish' over and over.

The speed of the sale is no surprise to Ivan Dragovic, the team captain. 'They are all coming to see me, even the fans of Cockbill street - I am a superhuman!!!' Yes of course you are Ivan, but has anyone ever told you you look like Peter Beardsley after a horrific car accident? No, this reporter feels that the sellout is due to Harsona's increasingly bizarre behaviour. One tabloid is reporting that the stress is finally getting to our favourite batty boy. Reports are coming in of him attending ASDI supermarket in a pirates outfit screaming 'ah har me hearties' at the terrified customers.

For whatever the reason, I'm sure Cockbill street are suitably scared, for all they know he might just lose it completely and chop all their heads of with a cutlass, here's hoping.

We Aren't Scared of Dragovic
Says Captain, Last Seen Running Away

The reports from Telewest about their handball captain Ivan Dragovic running riot in supermarkets and dressing up as a pirate has not scared the team, said Cockbill Street's captain Andy Healy at a press conference earlier today. "We are confident that the referees will stop anything outside the handball rules, which clearly state that all players must play in match kits."

When confronted with the rumours that he might "lose it completely and chops all their heads off with a cutlass", as the Telewest Sport reported earlier, Healy quickly ended the press conference. Healy was last seen under a bed with three other team-mates, while the others desperately tried to lure them out from the bed, claiming that it was not dangerous to play the match.

BACK WHERE WE STARTED: Phoenix Handballers Face Orange-Whites Again

Kaze Progressa's handball side, back after a brief hiatus from international competition, return to action against old foes Rejistania. The Progressans and the Orange-Whites met in the semi-finals of the first Cup, the Orange-Whites winning 23-20 en route to winning the trophy. Once again, they will start favourites, but the Progressans will be far less afraid of the other sides in the group, Celtico and Towlieban, whom they play in that order.

The manager, Traub Fazlin, said 'second place appears almost certain' but adds that 'anomalous performances, good or bad, could lead us to first or third. We must try to ensure the former occurs.'

JOHNNY: Well, Esther, prior to today some were unsure about whether TEAM KOR3A had arrived as world-class group of players or if their prior wins were flukes. The KOR3ANS have answered their critics in stunning form, winning a 34 to 16 victory over The Belmore Family on a hostile court.
<Footage of game>
JOHNNY: KOR3AN fans turned out in force to The Belmore Family for this match, attempting to reduce the home-court advantage The Family held. Still, the crowds were clearly mostly Belmorians, with a smattering of other international handball fans. KOR3A started off the game with their strongest squad and things went slowly for the first few minutes of the game. With ten minutes of play elapsed, the score was an low but even 5 - 5. From there on out, though, the Blues began to pull away. Captain "Teddy" Ha led a scoring rally of five unanswered points while the Belmorians seemed to stand and stare. Coming out after halftime, The Belmore Family put on a stronger performance, but it was not enough to reduce the lead KOR3A brought into the second half. KOR3A brought out their bench squad in the final minutes of the game, but the shaken Belmorians were unable to do much with their score and the game ended a 34-16 blowout. Coach Allen Kou:

KOU: Clearly, we showed the pundits who expected us to put up a poor showing against TBF on their home court that they were completely wrong. We've come a long way from being destroyed by Rejistania many moons ago and our boys are now world-class players. Victory!!!!

This reporter knows when he's been proved wrong, and today is one of those days. Telewestians everywhere celebrated the 21 - 17 win against the Delicious Frankfurters in style. Driving down Main Street we saw a fat man streaking down the road screaming 'Lets get streaky!!!' No-one appeared to be taking him up on the offer but the sentiment was there. Symon Harsorna turned up for the match wearing his now customary pirates outfit and apparently told the team they'd have to walk the plank if they didn't win. Ivan Dragovic told us exclusively that he took that to be a metaphore for "something unholy, and wrong in the eyes of God" and accordingly had no intention of losing. Quite how Ivan came to that assumption is anyones guess, I personally would have took it to mean that the manager has clearly lost his marbles. Whatever they took it to mean however certainly spurred them all to victory, 15-3 down at half time an inspired substitution from Harsorna brought the relatively unknown Marco Van Flazachec into play, he went on an absolutely fantastic run of 14 unanswered scores.

We caught up to the young centre after the match.

Suzy - So Marco, how fired up were you for this game.

Marco - I like to eat beef jerky.

Suzy - errr, ok, could you tell us whay Harsona said to you before bringing you on to make you play the way you did?

Marco - Yes thats right.

Suzy - Well, who could argue with that - congratulations Marco, here's your bottle of champagne for man of the match

Marco - Jerky?

Hmmm, well never let it be said that Telewestians don't like jerky. There was a slight scuffle in the tunnel after the match between Harsorna and the manager of DF. Apparently Harsona jumped on the oppositions coach and tried to scalp him with a plastic fish slice. After being pulled off by his own team he said he was trying to take a trophy, maybe someone should explain that Indians take scalps and pirates take treasure, but then maybe someone should also explain he isn't a pirate?

No matter how we won, be it pop up books, pirate outfits, super human strength or just pure luck - we did. Most Telewestians will treat this day like it's a final, and most Telewestians won't care what happens next but be assured, we'll all be watching. Good luck boys.

Orange-Whites start victorious
The Orange-Blues started their run for the title with a clear victory against Kaze Progressa. While the last match (in HBWC1) was a close match, which ended with 3 goals difference, this match was anything but close. The Progressans abstained from the last championship for some undisclosed reason. Now rumours rose, that the reason was lacking skill. The Progressans started scoring, but their 2-5 lead dissolved into a 22-13 trailing at half-time. The Orange-Whites continued their excellent performance in the second half, but Kaze Progressa is not KOR3A, who gave up when trailing high. The Orange-Whites had much trouble with the fast and furiou attacks, and if Lyku Syku wasn't be at the right place at the right time, the score would have been closer. Isra'he and Sulny'he were substituted in the last minutes by the Ly twins. They confused the Progressan defenders enough to score four goals (we don't excatly who of them did it). At the end, the Orange-Whites archieved a solid 40-27 victory.

Handballers Struggle, But Gain Two Points
Druids Are Beaten, But Only Just

The first match of the third international handball tournament took place in The Belmore Family's new handball arena today. Cockbill Street faced off with NEWI Cefn Druids, a solid team who finished fifth in last year's tournament here in Vimesbairn.

The Druids were quick and nimble at the start of the game, and Callous in the goal had to see 4 balls fly by him in the opening five minutes. A couple of quick goals from winger substitute Glodscousin sent the game back tied to 4-4, and Cockbill Street tried to control it from then on. However, swift counter-attacks and good defending meant that the Druids were very much into the game, and their man-marking of Chris Pietersen worked to perfection. Thus, Hreidar Trollfighter had to come on as a substitute on 9-9, and he changed the tune of the game. Two quick passes to the line player, and the game was in the hands of the Streeters. Some good tackling in our half as well disrupted the play of the opponents, and the Streeteres led 13-9 at half time.

The Streeters continued to build on their lead early on, and were cruising in the middle stages of the half with a six-goal lead at 20-14. But suddenly, something went wrong. The players looked visibly more tired than only three minutes before, passes were thrown away and easy chances needlessly put wide of the goal. As a result, the Druids fought their way back into the game, led by playmaker and centre-back Stuart James. He scored four goals in the remarkable come-back, as they scored five goals for only one against in the next six minutes, leaving the game finely poised at 21-19 with eight minutes left.

Despite the setback, Cockbill Street pulled away with a couple of goals just afterwards, securing the game again - or so they thought. But a magnificent rally from the Druids nearly had it done, as they went from 25-22 with three minutes left to 25-24 with 30 seconds to go. Luckily, the Streeters were able to throw the ball to each other without losing it, despite the extremely offensively minded defenders who tried to grab every ball. Thus, the fans survived some nailbiting final seconds, and the Streeters have all but qualified for the quarter-finals.

GRIFFINS HEADING OUT
Trevor Burgess in The Belmore Family on Cockbill Street 25 NEWI Cefn Druids 24

The NEWI Cefn Druids handball team look to be heading out of the World Cup after losing by a single goal to Cockbill Street.

Despite starting brightly in the opening few minutes, the Griffins' performance tailed off through the rest of the first half, going in a disappointing 13-9 down at the interval.

The second half was little better. At one point, the Streeteres were six in front, and were it not for some sloppy play late on, the score could have been so many more. The Druid team managed to claw the deficit back to two before they seemed to slow down themselves. With three minutes to go, the Griffins were 25-22 down. The Cockbill Street team had everything under control. Even in conceding two Trevor Cannon strikes in the dying minutes, the Druids looked like they were simply being taunted by the superior Cockbill Street team.

The Griffins' next match is against Telewest, who won the other Group 2 game against Delicious Frankfurters by 21 goals to 17. Centre Back Stuart James is wary of their next opposition. He told us "We had someone watching the Telewest game for us, and he told us that we should beware of a number of their players. Marco Van Flazachec looks like he could be the best player in the world soon, while that Ivan Dragovic looks a bit of a handful.

However, people back home are not so confident in their most successful sporting team to date. An opening defeat, coupled with an awkward second match, means that the Griffins are now out of the top two favourites for qualifying. Cefnbet gave the odds for qualifying from the group as follows:

Cockbill Street 1/6
Telewest 4/6
NEWI Cefn Druids 5/4
Delicious Frankfurters 11/1
Kaze Progressa

IC from the Kangaroo:

HANDBALL REGRESSA

The Progressan handball side started their comeback appearance in the World Cup with an awe-inspiring display of inadequacy, losing 40-27 to Rejistania.

After an initial burst from the Progressans, scoring three goals in a row to go 5-2 up after three minutes, the young Progressan side (with only two players in the squad retained from that used in the first Cup) provided a masterclass in the defensive naivety of youth, conceding ten goals in seven minutes to go 12-8 down. A run of five unanswered goals, three of them by Lyku Syku, in the last minutes of the half earned the Orange-Whites a 22-13 lead at halftime which never looked in danger, although the pacey, attack-minded Progressans kept scoring in the second half. The final score of 40-27 reflected the attacking flair from both sides and the defensive incompetence of one.

Traub Fazlin, the manager, said 'We had our bad game at a time when even our best may not have been enough... in that sense, it is good timing. If we attack like that against Celtico and Towlieban, and defend just a little better, we should win both games.'

Defending Champs Start Out 2-0
Sliponia 29 Liverpool England 20 and Sliponia 38 Wella 20

Sliponia debut in a tough match against Liverpool England with a 29-20 victory on match day one. The fans were going crazy as the defending HBWC champs stopped any final attempts at scoring, securing the nine point victory.

On match day two, the Sliponian national team had a walk through the park as they torched Wella, doubling their margin of victory from match day one, and still not allowing over twenty points.

The Sliponian national team finishes up this round with a match against Valient.

Another Handball Win for KOR3A
Blues steamroll yet another opponent
The Belmore Family Desk -- TEAM KOR3A played another well executed match Sunday against SirLakousMan, defeating the rookie team 28 to 18. The KOR3ANS were in control from the very beginning, and the match between last year's runners-up and a new team seemed unbalanced even to the KOR3AN fans. Because there was no expectation of a struggle, the KOR3AN team didn't get into the match as much as the fans would have liked, and since the team seemed laissez-faire about the whole event, the fans didn't get into the match as much as the team would have liked. Regardless, TEAM KOR3A brought a strong 16-8 lead into the second half and then let the bench go to work. The second string was able to match SirLakousMan without much trouble and increased the size of KOR3A's lead from eight to ten, ending the game without fanfare. The Blues now only must defeat Lovisa to enter the semi-finals, where they will almost certainly run up against Cockbill Street, Rejistania, and Sliponia, exactly the same set of teams as last year's top four. This year, KOR3A brings the benefit of a more experienced team to the finals. "The worst thing for us would be to come up against Rejistania in the semi-finals," said Coach Allen X. Kou. "They beat us pretty badly at the beginning of last season and we think that they are still the most technically skilled team in this series by far. In my opinion, we have the advantage in pure athleticism, though, so if our boys can keep their heads on straight, maybe we can beat them this time around." Last year, the Blues defeated Cockbill Street in the semis and lost to Sliponia in the finals. This year, they "feel like [they] can take home the big trophy," said Kou. "We're ready for whatever is thrown at us."

Orange-White stay on winning ways
After defeating the Progressans clearly by 40-27, the Orange-Whites had no problem with dominating newcomers Towlieban by a GD of 11. The final result was 28-17. The Towliebanians never found into the match. The Ly-twins, who started instead of Hada Isra and Kada Sulny confused the players so much that the team could score as they liked. Soon the Orange-Whites were leading 4-0. The Towliebanians tried to play more aggressively, but they did not really have a chance. The first half ended 14-6 for the Rejistanians. Also the second half was not quite eventful. The Towliebanians improved - but never enough to be a real danger for the rejistanian lead. In the last minutes, the Orange-Whites fell back into their 'the game is already won' attitude, but with a score of 28-14 it was already won and the last three goals from the Towliebanians couldn't change that.

The result:
Rejistania: 28
Towlieban: 17

GRIFFINS REACH QUARTER FINALS
Trevor Burgess in The Belmore Family for the Handball World Cup

The NEWI Cefn Druids handball team were victorious in their final two group games at the World Cup, beating two new teams in Telewest and Delicious Frankfurters.

However, it has not been plain sailing for the Griffins. After suffering a setback in their opening match, many back home were nervous that they would not qualify. It was looking even less likely that there would be a Druid team in the last eight of the competition at half time in the Telewest match, when the newcomers were in a strong position at 11-6. However, an inspired substitution by the Griffins’ coach, bringing Trevor West on for Trevor Cannon, changed the game completely. West was inspirational, linking up with the Chapman brothers brilliantly and scoring eleven goals himself, top scoring on the night. The Griffins eventually came out 25-18 winners, and could breathe a huge sigh of relief.

The game against Delicious Frankfurters was by far the easiest for the Druids. West came in for Cannon in the Griffins’ starting line up in the only change made. The match was simple enough for the Griffins, who registered a convincing 40-19 victory, with all six outfield players getting on the score sheet.

The next game will be completely different, as it is against former champions Rejistania. It should be a very tight match, as both teams are in the world’s top five. However, the Orange-Blues will have home advantage, and are also ranked above the Griffins, so they will be favourites to make it to the semi-finals. The Griffins know, though, that if they want to have any chance of winning the tournament, then they need to beat opposition like Rejistania.

From the Na~ovi National:

Celtico collapsed!
The Orange-Whites have won very clearly against Celtico with 41-21. The match reminded of the KOR3A match in the last cup (the famous 41-15): The Celtics couldn't capitalize that nonexisting chances while the Orange-Whites dominated the match. Hada Isra and Kada Sulny started again after coach Juu Junu gave the substitutes a chance in the last match. The Celtics were soon trailing 6-2. The rejistanians didn't slow down and at half time, the score was 22-8. In the second half, Junu'he's team kept on dominating, even if Lyku Syku reacted sometimes wrongly or too slow and allowed the Celtics to score too easyly. DEspite this, the lead was never really endangered. Juu Junu said, when asked about the 41-21 victory: "It was a really good match! I expected a win, but not a trashing!"

Two Easy Wins Send Cockbill Street Through
Defense Key To Victory

The Cockbill Street handball team storms to new successes. After a hard-fought win against the NEWI Cefn Druids, the two newcomers Delicious Frankfurters and Telewest were dispatched without any problems. The most amazing part of the performance was the defense, which worked as a team and never let many opportunities through. To illustrate this, we have the match against the Delicious Frankfurters. Cockbill Street only let in 14 goals, six of which were penalties, and scored 29, of which eleven came from counter-attacks. An efficient way to play handball, many thought, and it led Cockbill Street to an almost secure quarter-final place.

That was secured against another newcomer, Telewest, in a further display of excellent defending. Although the Telewestian captain, Ivan Dragovic, scored six goals out of the total 18, we amount this to his costume - he was the only player on the pitch to be clad in full pirate's outfit. Despite numerous complaints, namely based on that part of the rules which state that "players from the same team must wear the same kit, bar the keeper", Dragovic was allowed to play and thus became Telewest's best player. But Andy Healy's ten goals out of the healthy total of thirty-one gave Cockbill Street their eleventh group stage win on eleven attempts.

The quarter-final will be against yet another newcomer, Valient, who made their way through a difficult group containing world champions Sliponia, famous sporting nation Liverpool England, and Wella. However, previous HBWC experience seems to count for a lot, so the odds of a Valient win with local bookmakers are very high.

Defending Champs Sweep Group
Sliponia 36 Valient 19

Sliponia succesfully swept their group winning all three games in rather impressive fashion. Sliponia simply abolished any defense Valient could surmount by just cutting down the court. After a close loss in the Richter Classic championship, all Sliponians are now focused on handball and field hockey.

Despite a lack of defense by Valiet, the president of the Sliponian Handball Commission has commended this year's team on not allowing over 20 points per game.

The Sliponian national team will travel to Kaze Progressa to play their quarterfinal match against Team Rejistania.

Orange-Whites win quarterfinal
The Orange-Whites have defeated the NEWI Cefn Druids in their first-ever quarterfinal. The nation of NEWI Cefn Druids was in the last cups a rather bad team, but they started a great performance in this match and in this match, made it extremly hard for the Orange-Whites. At the end, the Orange-Whites have archieved a close 29-27 victory. the hard-fought match had equal chances for both teams. At halftime, the NEWI Cefn Druids were ahead 13-12. the second half was as balanced and as exciting as the first. At the end, Lyku Syku 'saved the victory'. He parried the deciding ball of the NEWIs which nearly had caused the 28-28. Hada Isra archieved the last goal in the last seconds, so the match ended 29-27. The Orange-White advance to the semifinal.

Valiant Effort To Ease Into Semis
Third Consecutive Semi-Final

After this extremely well played quarter-final, one must ask oneself where it all will end. The Streeters were never threatened in any way by the Valient team, and they continue to cruise through the tournament.

However, the only worry is that the goals in "conceded" column steadily increase. Against Delicious Frankfurters, the Streeters conceded 14. Then 18 against Telewest. And in today's match, we had to see 21 goals go into the Cockbill Street goal. However, the offensive play was excellent, and for the first time we saw many goals against established defense. That might be due to the Valient 4-2 formation, which was about as leaky as a 60-year-old rowing boat in a hurricane, but also due to the players creating good plays and scoring some very nice goals indeed.

The draw has not been made yet, however Cockbill Street can meet either their old nemesis Rejistania, defending champions Sliponia, newcomers SirLakousMan, Kaze Progressa, or last year's finalists KOR3A.

JOHNNY: TEAM KOR3A, having led Group A with a +35 GD, entered today's quarterfinals match against SirLakousMan confidently, knowing that experience and skill were on their side. The only thing for our boys to do was ensure that the newcomers SirLakousMan did not get too lucky. Captain Tae-Eun Ha led the team's first-half charge, with 9 goals to his name. Goalie Kun-Hee Lee played impeccably, allowing only 5 first-half goals. The match was shaping up to be a goal-fest the likes of which had been seen only once before -- in Rejistania's infamous trouncing of KOR3A last season. In the second half, things did not fare much better for SirLakousMan, the team scoring only 8 goals to bring their total to 13, indicative of the stellar defense KOR3A played today. The Blues played offense well too, racking up a respectable 32 goals. Defeated, SirLakousMan's players gracefully shook the hands of the KOR3AN players at the end of the match. Left back Hans Flexengasher:
FLEXENGASHER: These guys are better off than where we were two seasons back. They did great for their first season in an established tournament. RAAAAAAR SMASH!!!
JOHNNY: Depending on the results of the draw and the Kaze Progressa versus Sliponia match, KOR3A will now face either Cockbill Street, Rejistania, Kaze Progressa or Sliponia.
COACH ALLEN KOU: It will probably shape up to be the same final four as last season, but that's the way the odds go anyway, so it's to be expected. We are eager to see what we can do this year, our game keeps improving and we've got more confidence than ever.
JOHNNY: When asked who the most serious threat was, Kou was decisive.
KOU: We have always believed Rejistania is the biggest threat to our style of play in this group. Their offense and defense are technically superb, which doesn't lend well to our chaotic attack and unsystematic defense. We are able to do great against those teams which have some technical flaw, because we can spot it and exploit it easily, but when there's no serious flaw to be found, it becomes difficult for us. Nonetheless, I'm confident we can "crack the code" and find some way to compete against the Orange-Whites should be run up against them in the semis or finals. They had some troubles with the NEWI Cefn Druids, and you can bet I had scouts watching that match.
JOHNNY: Not inspiring, but not dreary either. KOR3A looks to be set for a good two matches here, all that remains is to play them.

Sliponians Play For 3rd & For Pride
Lose to K0R3A

The Sliponian national team defeated Kaze Progressa in a close match 28-24 only to lose their next match against rivals from the Championship match last year (which Sliponia won 23-22) by a tally of 23-28.

Many fans of the national team are down, but this hasn't effected the players much.

"We've still got one match left to play. If we can defeat Cockbill Street, then we've got third, and as much as we'd like first, again, we'll take what we can get. GO SLIPONIA!"

Final scores:
Sliponia 28 Kaze Progressa 24

Orange-Whites 'outdefend' Cockbill Street
Cockbill Street was one of the opponents, which coach Juu Junu feared. He still remembers the close finals of the first cup. Also the Streeters seemed to remeber the finals, so the match became very defensivly. A commentator of TV-R said it was "System Karela handball" and this was perhaps the best definition of it. The Orange-Whites were leading at halftime 11-8.
In the second half, the Ly-twins played instead of Hada Isra and Kada Sulny. The Streetian defenders had some problems with them, since they tended to mark the wrong twin. However the Ly-twins lacked the skill and perhaps also the experience to capitalize the chances fully. At the end, the match ended 19-16.
The Orange-Blues will face KOR3A in the final. They have defetead them by a clear 41-15 in the last match in HBWC2.

The result:
Rejistania: 19
Cockbill Street: 16

Another Win For KOR3A
Blues continue to finals
Rejistania Desk -- As KOR3AN fans hoped, the Blues defeated Sliponia 28 to 23 in the semifinals Saturday. This was the first match during this championship in which the competition was able to score over twenty points against a strong KOR3AN defense. Luckily, the KOR3AN offense made up for that. The team got off to a rough start, with Sliponia scoring the first goals, and the score was tied ending the first half at 14-14. Luckily, the KOR3AN defense stepped up after coach Kou substituted Von Smashengräben for Flexengasher. The offense was inspired as usual, keeping the same pace as the first half and adding fourteen more goals to the bottom line, six by Soon-Yong Choi, giving the KOR3AN player a career high of ten goals this game. Sliponia was not able to keep pace given the KOR3AN defense, and will play Cockbill Street in the consolation third-place match. Our Blues will go on to meet the Orange-Whites on their home turf. The KOR3A-Rejistania match should be hotly contested. KOR3A has come far since they last played Rejistania last season and both their offense and defense have improved by leaps and bounds. Coach Kou in his last interview said Rejistania's "offense and defense are technically superb, which doesn't lend well to our chaotic attack and unsystematic defense. We are able to do great against those teams which have some technical flaw, because we can spot it and exploit it easily, but when there's no serious flaw to be found, it becomes difficult for us. Nonetheless, I'm confident we can "crack the code" and find some way to compete against the Orange-Whites." The staff of The Daily Planet wishes the Blues the best of luck in their second consecutive appearance in the finals.

GRIFFINS FINISH FIFTH AGAIN

NEWI Cefn Druids' handball team, the Griffins, have secured their second fifth place finish in as many world cups. After being knocked out of the finals at the quarter finals by Rejistania, the Griffins found themselves in a four way play-off for fifth place.

After a somewhat fortunate victory against Kaze Progressa, when a late winner from Trevor Chapman crept under the opposition goalkeeper to give the Griffins a slender 27-26 victory, the Druid team cruised past Valient to earn themselves their now customary fifth position. Hopefully, next time around, the Druids will overcome their hoodoo against the top teams.

The last final will decide
Everyone has expected the Orange-Whites to defeat the KOR3Ans again as high as in NSHWC2. Perhaps it was the reason for the loss in the 1st final that the team simply understimated the KOR3ANs and was over-confident. The first final ended 29-36 against the Orange-Whites. Coach Juu Junu was said to be really aggressive after the loss. According to security personal he was not far away of getting violent. Perhaps that was the reason, why the Rejistanians played much better in the second final, perhaps they didn't underestimate the KOR3Ans anymore. Fact was: they didn't give away chances as easily as in the last match, they played technically better. The Rejistanian fans were a clear majority not just in number but also in volume.

The Orange-Whites started fast and offensively and took the lead in the first minutes. soon the KOR3Ans equalised again and took the lead themselfes. Juu Junu shouted some words which were so insulting that the rejistanian TV station TV-R was forced to bleep them out. At halftime the score was 9-8 for the rejistanians. In the second half, the Ly twins again replaced Hada Isra and Kada Sulny. The second half again saw often changing leads, but slowly the Rejistanians could establish and extend the lead. While the semifinal was a defensivly 'System Karela' the second final was offensive handball at its best. At the end, the Orange-Whites had the right combination of skill and luck to finish the match 25-16. We all luck forward for the first-time-ever third final. The staff of the KaMaRi Update wishes the Orange-Whites good luck and hopes they win their second cup.

KOR3A 50/50 In NSHWC Finals
1st Match 36-29 KOR3A, 2nd 25-16 Rejis, 3rd Upcoming
Bjorn Stanley
"KOR3A has played some excellent handball throughout this year's tournament, but none so excellent as what we played in the first match of the finals," said Coach Allen Kou of his team's performance. This reporter whole-heartedly agrees. The Rejistanian Orange-Whites came into the match expecting to trounce the underdog KOR3ANS as easily as they did in match play two years ago. But they were unprepared for the now much-practised KOR3AN team, with arguably the world's best defense, and a strong offense to boot. The Blues took the lead early over the Orange-Whites in the first match of the finals, and tenaciously held onto it for the remainder of the game. The surprised Rejistanians were unable to overcome the now-stronger defense and could not make goals on pace with the KOR3AN offense, who brought the team to a four-point lead at the end of the first half. Orange-White coach Juu Junu delivered a fiery talk to his team at halftime, but it had little effect on the team's play. Captain Tae-Eun Ha led the team to expand the lead by three goals, himself adding the seventh point in the last thirty seconds. The KOR3AN fans and team alike never expected to do so well, least of all on hostile grounds, and were ecstatic after the win. Coach Kou was uncharacteristically quiet, saying not much other than "We've got to get to bed and rest, we've got another tough match coming up."

He was right, for the Rejistanis had watched the tapes of the previous game and found insight into the KOR3AN style of play, producing a much lower-scoring second match. The game seemed to be clearly more back-and-forth, with Rejistania claiming the lead, then KOR3A claiming it, and Rejistania reclaiming it right before the second-half buzzer. The score, at only 9-8, was much lower than the previous match's halftime score of 19-15, indicating the match was much more defensively-oriented. Again, in the second-half, the teams went back and forth, with charges from the Orange-White dynamic duo the "Ly-Twins" and similarly the Blues' own Batman-Robin team of Ha and Lee. Apparently there was something to be said for the fraternal bond on the Rejistani side, for the Rejis put on a solid nine point lead over the course of the second half, dashing any doubt as to whether they were overrated. The Rejistani team clearly played more cleanly this match, making fewer of the sloppy mistakes that characterized the play of the first match. The KOR3AN team, now much more somber, left the stadium without saying much, but Coach Kou did give a statement: "We're going to review the tapes, come back tomorrow, and play again. There's nothing else to say, is there?" The staff of the Daily Planet agrees there isn't much else to say, except that we wish the Blues good luck in their final match this season.

Proud to be the vice-champion
The first-ever third final in an HBWC took place in KaMaRi, Rejistania but despite of this venue, a huge amount of KOR3An fans made it for a home-game for them. When the final whistle blew and the score was 22-27 for the Orange-Whites, the KOR3Ans started celebrating their first-ever title, while the mood among the Rejistanians was gloomy. But despite this loss in the third final and despite the fact that the KOR3Ans scored 5 goals more: Orange-Whites, we are proud of your archievements! Still the handball-team is the most successfull rejistanian national team. And when other newspaers like the National want to see Juu Junu fired, we can only mention the fact, that 14 teams were wose than we.

The match between the Blues (even if they wear a rather turkquoise kit) and the Orange-Whites was a match of skill and speed. The Blues started scoring. During the match, they were the slightly better team. The orange-Whites made some errors, especially in the defense, which the KOR3ans capitalized. The 5-point lead for the Blues was at the end justified.

Johnny: What a Cinderella story we have for you fans, TEAM KOR3A, winning KOR3A's first-ever international championship in any sport, tonight in handball. We are live in Rejistania, court-side with winning coach Allen Kou.
Cheryl: Coach Kou, to what do you attribute your team's success tonight?
Allen: Well, our guys came out and gave their all, there's no doubting that. I'd like to think that my coaching had something to do with it but I really have to give most of the credit to the players. They've stepped up over the course of the season and tonight they showed just how far they have come.
Cheryl: Your players' unorthodox style of play has sometimes been criticized for being ungraceful, but I think you've showed your critics that it doesn't take grace to win a championship tonight. What about you?
Allen: Well, it might not be graceful, but it is still fun to watch, as the KOR3AN turnout tonight showed, and it wins games. The Rejis have got some superb technical ability but tonight we showed we had the desire and drive to win, so I think that's all that needs to be said.
Cheryl: Well, congratulations are certainly due, so let it be said all of KOR3A's hats are off to you and the team.
Allen: Thanks a bunch, and thanks to our fans for sticking with us through thick and thin.
Johnny: Well-said by Coach Kou, let's check out the game's stats. The game started out with the Orange-Whites and Blues moving in lockstep with each other, point for point. Rejistania moved up by two points ten minutes in after a series of missed shots by the KOR3AN offense. Instead of getting upset, our guys didn't let it get to them, and they appeared to be galvanized by the growing Rejistanian threat. Captain Tae-Eun Ha led the KOR3ANS to take back those two points before the half, ending the period at a 13-13 tie. The Blues came out looking strong in the second half, matching the skilled Orange-Whites again. Things were all tied up for minutes, until a Rejistanian bobble on defense allowed KOR3A to go up by two points. The Rejistanian defense appeared shaken after this, making a few more errors that would not have normally come from the otherwise quite practiced team. KOR3A slowly built a five-point lead over the rest of the half, capitalizing on multiple errors by the Rejistanian defense, and ending the game a 27 - 22 victory for KOR3A.

Johnny: You can see a crazed fan here spraying champagne in the streets of KOR3A, but it's worth the cost to him I'm sure, it's not every day the hometown boys win the world championship. That'll do it for this season's coverage, stay tuned to KBS Sports for the SportsTonight wrapup of all the day's games.
