Amnesty International Blasts SeOCC for Indefinite Sentencing
Speaking from SeOCC’s national Amnesty International chapter, Amenuella Wissler-Jones announced that SeOCC has been listed among the top violators of human rights in their criminal justice system.
In SeOCC, criminals sentenced to prison are held until the state has deemed them fit to re-enter society. This process is wholly in control of the state, who sets requirements, employs the psychologists who evaluate patients and ultimately administers ‘rehabilitation.’ The only institution that one can appeal to is the Ministry of Social Affairs, the very institutions that administers these punishments. There are several prisoners in SeOCC who have been held twenty years on what would be considered only minor felonies, and only because the state is convinced if released they will commit the crime again.
In civilized countries you are punished for what you do, not what you will do, and SeOCC’s policy of indefinite sentencing violates both the right to due process as well as basic human rights not to have our freedom impinged by the state.
Minister Villivich, responding to Amensty’s charges, scoffed at the remarks.
Amnesty is a rights theory group, and they do an excellent job when evaluating rights based systems. However, SeOCC is not a rights based system, and so something is lost in translation when you attempt to make judgments about a system that operates in a different paradigm. They ignore our extremely low sex crime rate, which is due largely to our practice of holding sex offenders until we are sure they will not repeat the crime, not when an arbitrary number of years have passed.
Branding us human rights violators is a perfect case of obscuring more than it illuminates, and frankly Amnesty is either being used or has aligned themselves with a few groups here in SeOCC attempting to liberalize our government. They will not succeed, and this PR stunt will not work. SeOCC stands by our criminal justice system and suggests Amnesty stick with nations that are actual enemies of humanity, like Iesus Christi or the capitalists, rather than focusing on the difference of opinion between SeOCC and rights theorists.
Amnesty supporters protested in front of the Ministry of Social Affairs offices today in support of the announcement, demanding greater citizen control of certain aspects of government. The Ministry of Politics released a written statement supporting the MSA’s policies, stating that Amnesty had applied a limited analysis when they came up with their condemnation.
Reich Reform Party Formed, First Political Party in SeOCC History
A bizarre but politically significant scene occurred in the Diplomatic Cluster today when a group of citizens registered themselves as a political party for Arco Council elections. Though not illegal, SeOCC has never had political parties in their elections, and the manifesto of the group is rather important.
Lead by former Vice Minister of Politics Wilfred Goin, the Reich Reform Party is made primarily of Christians who want to see SeOCC take stronger steps to change what they called the ‘devolved Christianity that has stolen the minds and governments of the people of the Reich.’ Speaking for the group, Mr. Goin explained the timeliness of their creation.
Right now talks are stalled in Free Burkina Faso, Iesus Christi is essentially stalling or stonewalling our efforts to bring about positive changes in their domestic and international policies. When I served with Minister Soren, one of our key interests was the Reich, but this seems to have been downgraded on the MoP’s list of priorities since then. Our intent is to return the Reich and achieving positive reforms to the top of SeOCC’s international relations list.
The MoP had no official comment, though a spokesperson stated that he was glad citizens were taking an interest in politics. SeOCC has one of the highest ratings for political apathy in the world, and the MoP is happy to see people caring about something, no matter what it is.
