On the 15th of January, Eireann Oil, the semi-state Petroleum company of the Republic of Novo Hibernia, alerted the Goverment of the discovery of "significent" finds in the Porcupine Basin, located almost 40 kilometers off the mainland in the Atlantic Ocean.

Drilling at a depth of 1,011 meters (3,318 feet) Eireann Oil found three oil-bearing reservoirs, two of which had a combined flow rate of 50,000 barrels per day. Western 1, as the field has been named, is now in trial production.

There are no shares to be had in Eireann Oil unfortunately... but I would have no problem in a Dutch Petroleum company setting up in the Western 1 field.

MitsubishiSonyLockheed would like to inquire if the nations of Novo Hibernia and Knootoss would be interested in forming a cartel in order to receive better prices for our oil output? While MitsubishiSonyLockheed does not have any oil wells, nor is it interested in the exploitation of such, but we are large players in the TP (Thermal Depolymerization) field, which gives us a net output of 10,000 barrels of oil per day presently, but we are looking to step up production to the tune of 1 million barrels per day after the new TP plant comes online sometime in the next year.

We of the remmonlands see no availment in any conventional chemical fuel, instead the world should switch to hydrogen cells, fusion reactors and plasma batteries (the last 2 being future tech, but hydrogen fuel-cells be pretty much modern tech).

We do not in any way support the extraction, use or trade of oil based fuels, tough we do use limited amounts of oil for our plastics industry

On the other hand, we have extensive experience in running wells in Ale-Yarok, and can extract your resources in a reliable, safe way.

In a cabinet meeting presided over by An Taoseich Niall Quinn, the Government of the Republic of Novo Hibernia has declined the proposition by the Dutch energy and petrochemical giant, Global Hell, that the State of MitsubishiSonyLockheed may begin drilling in the Western 1 field.

Quinn issued a short rebuff to the Dutch Democratic Republic of Knootoss:

"We are no longer willing to allow foreign companies to setup operations in the Western 1 field."

The Republic of Novo Hibernia has now ceased exporting it's Oil to other nation-states.

The U-turn by the Government on the explotation of the Western 1 field may be due to it's suspicion of MitsubishiSonyLockheed and Knootoss, fearing that their interests are ultimately to take advantage of the Republic, as had the Western world with Middle East Oil producing nations before the Oil Crisis of the 1970s.
