OOC: Should I restart the GA?

I've been kicking this idea around for a while, but I'm not really sure if I should. IC it has lots of benefits, there are less wars, more technology developed, better trade, etc. but people didn't seem to like it much OOC (Some felt it stopped a lot of wars that might have happened, and a lot of people are here just for those wars). So, should I restart it?

Oh, if I do there will be some major changes. The main beef that most people had with the old GA was the way voting happened. It made very little sense, was constantly changing, and never works the right way. If I restart it there will be an entirely new system.

Also, please explain why you voted the way you did.

What, none of the 18 voters is willing to post? I actually want people's opinions on this, not just the voting results. Say something!

For those who don't know, the Galactic Alliance is a giant, galaxy wide Alliance for space nations that I made a few months ago. It went really well, had 70+ members at its height, and benefited everybody (at least IC). Unfortunately, there were a whole lot of @$$'s who did nothing but flame the GA, spam its threads, and accuse all its members of being godmodders. According to them if you were a GA member you were a n00b. It didn't matter how you RP'd or what you said, for them it was automatic. Once, I accidentally misspelled the name of a new member and the name that appeared on the member list was nothing like the persons actual name. It was completely different. Guess what, that nation (the name that ended up on the member list) was accused of godmodding! That nation didn't even exist, yet they still said he was a n00b and a godmodder. Eventually I got fed up with the ignorant ******** and left the GA (which I really didn't want to do). It died pretty quickly after that (Alliances don't stay in existance much when their founder leaves).

And I still want to see why people voted the way they did

Well, I voted 'WTF is the Galactic Alliance?' because I was unsure, unclear, and unaware of what the Galactic Alliance was, other than an alliance with some sort of space flavour. :o

But now I have seen your explanation. I do not know what the Galactic Alliance stands for and what sort of nations would join the Galactic Alliance. Alas, I have voted, so I can't really say yes or no. :P

Actually, since I haven't had any sort of experience with the GA, I can't really say yes or no. But apparently the majority doesn't want you do start it up again... :?

OOC: I voted no because the GA of old failed. Why raise the dead? Start a new alliance, and hope for the best.

Hmm, intresting idea. I think you should restart the GA. Based on what I know of it, it seemed to do more help than harm, especially in the areas of trade and technological development. Although I think that member nations shouldn't be required to share their technology (or was it another alliance that required that?), but every member should contribute to an alliance navy.

Of course, you would need to think of an effective way to debunk the person who says: "OMG! UR a SPAZ NAtion! GODMOD!!!!!1111!!!1" or his more educated cousin "All space nations are godmods in of themselves!"

Personally, I like the idea, and I would join once I've established a reasonable space state.

Edit: I agree with the people who say "an alliance with similar goals but a different name." Because you can avoid what some consider the taint of the original GA.

PLEASE let it stay dead. It failed. Let it stay dead. Move on with a new alliance with similar goals.

NOTE: That's really weird. I said the same thing about the GDODAD. Maybe you'll listen though?

I was hoping to re-start it (I didn't want to leave it in the first place, and I haven't seen the people who made me want to leave in a while), but since popular opinion is so against it I think I'll move on. Phooey.

Make a new alliance! The Intergalactic Alliance
A new alliance wouldn't be that bad.

I voted yes, but only because I wanted to join the Galactic alliance before. Though, I dont believe in restarting dead alliances. Klonor should start a new alliance...I'd join it.

Well, I have started like 5 other massive Alliancs since the GA, just for different purposes. There was the ISAO (Inter-Stellar Alliance Organization) which was an alliance for Alliances (it was a place for the different Alliances to converse and arrange inter-alliance treaties and stuff like that), the ISLEA (Inter-Stellar Law Enforcement Agency) which was a type of international police force, an organization that performed ploicing actions in all the systems of its members, and there were some others.

What else is there?

The GA. Did you forget?

No, I didn't forget, just didn't mention. Since it only has 4 members and hasn't done anything in a long time I kinda figured it had died out (a lot like the original GA)

I knew I saw "you must share any technology developed during your tenure in the alliance" somewhere!

I'm still in favor of a new alliance with the same ideals of the old one. It could work, if it had an inspired leader.

i voted Yes.. BUT i think you should use another name, Galactic Alliance left many with bad taste in their mouths, so i think you should use another name like Confederacy of Worlds or something like that.

As for stupid spammers and thread flamers, well, man, like mosquitoes.. they will always be around!! :)

I was going to apply for GA, but since i was a still young nation and had no space vessels i decided to wait, when i finally was going to apply, the GA went down the drain..

If you decide to found a new one (and i hope you do) i intend to join, as for those who yell GODMOD!!, we should not worry about them and pay them no heed, because if they chose to be ignorant and not try to comprehend and investigate what goes one then they are the losers.
