Background

It was a time of hard-won peace, brought about with the collapse of two powerful empires, the Wei and the Xie, fighting for control over China and the establishment of imperial order, the Okalisk Empire by its first Emperor Huang Ai. But the peace was ill begotten. The new order established by the newly formed Okalisk Empire was a brutal one. Millions were enslaved. Millions more were murdered at the slightest provocation.

One man had the courage to step forth and challenge the might of Okalisk Empire. His name was Cao Qing, a prominent former Wei General. Earlier, disillusioned with the Wei Empire, Cao Qing had forsook his rank and retired to meditate on Tai Shan (Mt. Tai). But with the new situation of oppression, Cao Qing could not sit idly by. Although he managed to gather under his banner an extraordinary array of martial artists and warlords, Cao Qing knew that there was no way he could match the horrific power of the Okalisk Empire.

One day, as he meditated on how to fight against the powerful Okalisk Empire, Cao Qing decided to forge five swords imbued with powerful chi to aid his rebels. Given to the most powerful martial artists, Cao Qing knew that these weapons would wreck havoc against the wicked Okalisk Empire and bring about its downfall.

Employing some of the best blacksmiths in China, along with several powerful shamans and chi wizards, Cao Qing began to forge the five swords. The first three, named in order, Qi Tian (Heaven’s Prop), Wo Long (Hidden Dragon), and Tie Xin (Iron Heart), were made without mishap. But disaster struck during the forging of the fourth. Unbeknownst to Cao Qing, a powerful Okalisk warlock had infiltrated his rebels and with his evil demonic magic had corrupted the fourth sword, turning it into a malevolent and malicious weapon. The warlock then stole and escaped with the sword, bringing it to Okalisk Empire’s capital of Jinyan. There the sword known as Mo Jian (Demon Sword) was given to the son of the Okalisk Emperor, Huang Xin.

Although, Cao Qing grieved at the disappearance and corruption of his fourth sword, he resolved to make the fifth sword a powerful counterbalance to the death and decay of the Mo Jian. Deciding on a name, Cao Qing decided to name it after the most revered creature, the Dragon. From henceforth, the fifth and last sword was known as the Tian Long Jian (Heavenly Dragon Sword).
