For a long time, The Totalitarian Dictatorship of Nailiak sat idly by as its friends and enemies initiated projects for the development of weapons and defense measures. I, Kailian, dictator of Nailiak, am proud to spread word that my R&D sector is in full swing. I present to you the PAW.

PAW stands for Personal Artillery Weapon. Now, it’s not as bad as you my think. In fact, it’s quite similar to a grenade launcher. But there is one major difference. The propellant. Most grenade launchers use powder propellant, but not ours. Using existing magnetic systems, Nailiakian scientists have created a powder-less way to propel objects a rather long distance.

The PAW can launch a 65mm explosive shell just shy of 800 yards. Research is currently underway to see if it is possible to extend the overall effective range of the PAW.

The core chamber consists of 11 magnetized rings which, when combined with electrical energy, cause the magnets to progressively become stronger. The rings each have their own magnetic rating and are place in order of their maximum rating. The ring closest to the explosive shell has the highest magnetic rating. The rings pull what is referred to as the "hammer" forward at a rate of 1954 FPS. When the hammer makes contact with the explosive shell, the kinetic energy of the hammer is transferred to the shell and is propelled out at about 1476 FPS. A hardened rubber stopper at the end of the core chamber stops the hammer. This was placed to prevent damage to the chamber where the explosive is placed thus preventing jamming from occurring.

As the hammer passes each ring they begin to slowly demagnetize until they have reached their original state of low magnetism. When the rings are demagnetized, the hammer is pulled back into place by a small magnet at the very rear end of the core chamber. Demagnetization can take up to 15 seconds to complete. For safety reasons, the weapon is coded with a special override chip that prevents the weapon from being fired until the magnets have demagnetized. This is done to ensure the magnets are properly charged. If a magnet fails, the hammer could become unstable and knock the other magnets off track and render the weapon useless.

The process of magnetizing the rings is referred to as "Energizing" and can take up to 30 seconds to reach full magnetic capacity. During the energizing phase, the hammer is held in place by 4 small clamps until the trigger is pulled. These clamps are a reinforced titanium alloy and are strong enough to resist the pull of the powerful magnets. The hammer itself is held in the center of the rings by the magnetic pull of the rings.

Vents were added to the right side and the top of the core chamber to prevent pressure build-up inside the core chamber.

A single power cell supplies the electrical energy needed to charge the rings. The power cell is good for 8 complete ring-energizing sequences. When the rings demagnetize, the remaining power is re-stored in the power cell. Currently, this is very inefficient method and our scientists are developing new ways to deliver longer lasting power cell support.

Now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for, a glimpse of the current prototype. This prototype is approximately 4ft in length with a 75mm barrel capable of chambering a 65mm rounds. The core chamber itself approximately 105mm.
