A mobile nation (Dark Death Star now seeking allies)

18-01-2004, 06:25
The nation of Dark Death Star is made up of several million cybernetically enhanced reptiles living aboard a giant spacecraft. The creatures can live on very little heat or light (though all action is slowed down), so power is easily conserved. Resources are gathered by mining from uninhabited planets and raiding inhabited (but technologically weak) ones. The nation is run by an AI operating within the spacecraft's parallel-processing supercomputer.

[edit]
The DDS is now seeking alliance with other nations. We know how beneficial working together can be, for it was the symbiosis of the computer and the lizards that helped us get to where we are today. The lizards needed technology to defend themselves, and the computer found their cold-blooded, organic forms to be very efficient for manual activities.

Mining off of other nations could be an offense and you could be destroyed for it.

The DDS is not stupid. The DDS will not risk attack from superior forces.

Dark Death Star: Welcome to NationStates. You might identify with DNS at some point, his nation is centered in two massive motherships. We'd be glad to forge a relationship with you in-character, but we'll have to negotiate that whole bit about raiding if you want to be our ally.

You're not the first to attempt such a thing as a mobile nation. However, the last one did not use a race of reptiles led by a computer in a deathstar as their nation's platform.

And I like that. However, here you may find that you need to balance your creative side with your realistic side in order to be taken seriously. Either way, good luck, and welcome.

While we are glad to see other reptilian nations deciding to show themselves, we are not so glad to hear that they are raiders and scavengers. It just gives the rest of us a bad image. But time allows for many things, including policy changes?

Raiding nations is an offense and offenders of these laws should be destroyed.
18-01-2004, 06:45
As the DDS travels, it gets large energy readings...there is a lot of habitation here, and a lot of technology. The DDS could power down, and move unseen, or search for compatible nations and try to form alliances. Either way is risky. The DDS changes to moderately low power and studies the nations nearby.

Hmmm. I see. Have you developed any new cures from studying nations. Offense- A crime or a displesure.

If you do study nations for good reasons then i wish no harm to come to your nation.

Resources are gathered by mining from uninhabited planets
Ah... to take a page from the Spacer Handbook, why bother trying to get materials out of a planet's gravity well when there's so much great stuff just lying around in asteroids?

Nations are studied for various reasons; detection of hostility and threat analysis, suitability for alliance, and any other information that may come in useful in the future.

Asteroids are mined also. The avoidance of gravity wells and other power-draining phenomena is attempted wherever possible.

We send greetings from Tripolis. The Guild's are, too say the least, anxious about your presence, but Knossos feels that getting first contact out of the way as soon as possible is the best course of action. Hence, this message. Just try to avoid Chariklo, Asbolus, Pholus, 1998 TF35, 1998 QM107, 1999 UG5, etc. And Kalyke. To name just a few.

Dearest DDS

As Foreign Minister to the Non-Human Union and informal ambassador to the Greenfields region I cordially invite you to both. The Non-Human Union is an organization of non-human nations bound by the Universal Declaration and the solidarity of a common plight, that of being non-humans. Many nations do not wish to take non-humans nations seriously, or worse, they persecute heinous crimes against non-humans in their nations, due in part to the anthropocentric nature of the UN.

Greenfields is the official region of the Non-Human Union although you do not have to join both. By joining Greenfields you are covered by the IFTA – the largest economic treaty and organization in the NS world, which protects workers rights and gains access to all other IFTA nations. By joining our region you are also automatically entered into the NHU and get a first place preference in our new map. One condition of joining Greenfields is you must use the Union paw for regional and external exchange [although you may keep your original currency for internal markets].

All members are bound by the UD and and the rule of joining Greenfields. However as more active members are joining we are starting to develop more ideas about the specifics of the NHU, so now is a good time to join to get your view across.Actually, it would be nice to finally get a lizard nation to join, both Sakkra and Wandering arganon have been asked a few times, o well.

OOC: Actually spell our nation correctly, and we might have given your porposal more weight. heh.

IC: Biotopia. The reasoning behind our declination of your invitation was thus. We felt your declaration would be quite constrictive to our peoples. As it stands, we are beholden to no one, and answer to no power other than our own.
Biotopia

you're not held to any power in the NHU, especially considering we have no official 'leader' of such. All our institutions contain representatives of every member nation. Referndum is held on every major decision.

OOC: sorry about that, i'm not wearing my glasses at the mo.

However, being a member of your alliance requires 'No sapient being is eaten'. While we hold that edict ourselves in peace time, during war, it is not enforced. Gruesome? Perhaps. But the psychological effect on opposing combatants is not to be underestimated.

It would depend on the nature of the circumstances under which the consumption took place. If it were purely for display and they former people you were eating had been deliberately slaughtered for eating, then that would not be acceptable. If however the enemy had killed them then they are no longer ‘sapient’ and were not killed purely for consumption.

While we are glad to see other reptilian nations deciding to show themselves, we are not so glad to hear that they are raiders and scavengers. It just gives the rest of us a bad image.

OOC: I quite agree. The Argonians might be willing to speak with some sort of representative, but there will be no mining of their homeland. They are a proud warrior people, and easily insulted.

OOC: Argonians are known to consume their defeated foes, but these are usually freshly slain, lesser species. Humans, elves, and Hell Bovines are not particularly tasty, nor are they nutritious. Typically it is orcs and goblins who are consumed.

I know another nation (The Great Space Fleet) that used to be mobile. However, they got a homeworld at the end of the one RP they were in.
