ship debris- it's not there just to look pretty

18-01-2004, 02:03
I've notice almost no nations bother salvaging parts and entire ships that we disabled in combat true, most ships that are blown up probably have something that could be put to use, plus it's a extremely quick and efficient way to rebuild your fleet if you have properly trained professionals.

I think you would get more votes if you spelled debris correctly...

yea that would probably help

well thats what lack of sleep does to ya

*Waves hand*
The Martian War supplied me with a heckuvalotta construction material.

And if Gurlanai would actually get on the forums *cough*, you'd notice he has a very large space station constructed entirely of other people's garbage.

I believe New Russia has a booming salvage industry, too.

We usually don't have ships to salvage, as we are not often at war. Still, when a ship is destroyed it is salvaged as long as it is in an area that is easy to access. We don't waste resources trying to get at ships that are difficult to get to unless there's something really great aboard.

We also don't salvage craft that are not ours. It's too easy to piss someone off that way.
18-01-2004, 04:33
good point about that Xanthal, in that situation I'd probably just stripping it of whats left of the armor and internal structure "believing" all other things of interests where destroyed or something

Our only exception to that rule is if there's some mega-awesome technology aboard that has the potential to really help us out, militarily or otherwise, and cannot be aquired by more legal means. If that isn't the case, we tag it with a sensor bouy and alert the nation of origin as to its location. If we can't find out where it came from, we either just leave it or bring the debris back to study (if there's anything remarkable about them).
18-01-2004, 05:35
what about small fighter ships and bombers do you leave them or if they interest you pick up one of two?
Xanthal
18-01-2004, 06:10
Fighters and bombers are usually decimated beyond being salvagable in battle, they're just too small. When they explode nothing's really left. If there are some though, our policy still applies.

While we have yet to engage in battle or come across battle remains, it is a standing policy that all such locations are reported back to my nations government. We then send out salvage crews to clean up the salvage & anything else in the area after we preformed a study on the area to make sure its (a) safe and (b) all bodies have been claimed for return to native nations (if it can be determined).

Main reason we do it is the fact most space vessels are a great source for refined valuable materials.

I meant if you disabled a carrier (or some other vehicle that can house them) that still had some stored in it's holds

Oh. Nah, no point. We have over 25,000 slipfighters, we don't need any more fighters.

. . . share?

Slipfighters are our most abundant ship. They are carried aboard most Armada starships as fire support. They make great dogfighters, and they can also swarm large targets or act as frontrunners with their cluster missiles (2 CMs per fighter, 5 missiles per CM).
Kanuckistan
18-01-2004, 07:22
If any Kanuckistani vessel was disabled or destroyed, the remains would be retrived with extream prejudice, dew to concerns of national security, both informational and technological(and the fact that most of our crewed ships are extreamly expensive). To the point that refusing to turn over such debris could easily be considered to constitute an act of war.

To date, however, no Kanuckistani vessel has been lost, nor have we found ourselves in a position to lay claim to others' debris.

Centuari, if you are interested, LRR would be willing to start a space salvage company with you. All LRR capitol ships are equipped for at least limited salvage operations, and also have cargo space to store any usefull ship components.

LRR has been salvaging for a long time, but with limited success as it has usually been limited to scavenging and the chance find.
19-01-2004, 00:34
LRR thats be great, theres plenty of debris around a couple sectors in Apha Centauri (nation' independance war)

the most notable place to find debris would be the battle of 88C, while teh technology is somewhat dated (like my nation is sorta)

a incomplete list of whats been found in the debris field

Ship armor and internal structure materials
a damaged commonwealth ship (USS Tongesten, engine area and armor serverely damaged)
Vulcan missile racks
Plasma Mortars

among other thigns that are still being identified

Sounds good, then!

Split the profits 50/50?

I'll send a Michael Strogoff class fleet battlecarrier over as soon as possible.

sounds good we just have 3 conditions we ask you follow

1) we ask that you do not desecrate the grave site of the Nuritoshi Maru and the USS neverwinter, they are of historical importance

2) should you find any jump drive engines tha are in working order that you hand them over as we are currently researching the science and just recently lost our to a unforeseen accidently (obessive person turned it on creatinga jamp gate only a few kilometers away from the space station leaving a rather large hole)

3) half of the slavagable ships will be handed over to the Centuri station, half goes to you for purposes of your own

Ok. Sounds good.

But as for the company, LRR's got several sites marked for exploration. The Karos ship grsveyard is a rumored repository of old ships near the galactic rim. Although it has never yet been found, we are sure it exists, on the basis of information recovered from a derelict spacecraft aged at 500,000 years old. Apparently it was on its way from Karos to its home dock at eta Leo, not far from sol by today's reckoning. It was using very primitive star charts, and apparently had gotten lost. The graveyard should be somewhere near the edge of the Cygnus arm, between 90 and 120 degrees.

A map:

OCC: Say, that would make a great RP. "The Search for Karos."
20-01-2004, 01:09
OOC: that would be great guess the moment we find a Jump drive engine it's gunna have to be installed onto a ship

IC: that would be a venture I believe worth investing in, once we find a suitable jump drive engine we will immediately begin preparations.

For the sake of convenience, I'm sure the fleet could lend you a destroyer h-space drive.

How's "Interstellar Shipwreck&Salvage Inc." as a company name?
20-01-2004, 01:59
OOC: names good better than the one I thought of

we would be most gracious, we will prepare the USS tongesten our largest battle ship for the new engine, we will have our cargo ship the Neronattio Maru to begin search for fighter craft adn other essential weapons

by the way that H wouldn't stand for hyper-space would it?

Ok. We will have the LRRSV Stephen Hawking join your ships. It will also deliver the hyperspace drive.
20-01-2004, 03:25
alright we will prepare for her arrival, our senior advisor Paul Richards will welcome you to Centuri Station as the other high ranking officials are currently unavaible (Steven and his military cheif Rebecka Sway are out a reception not to far away from the station, Kate, his PR official is out trying to find a new jump drive engine).

THe LRRSV Stephen Hawking arrives near the Centuri Station, dropping out of hyperspace from its trip from the WWSETI planet. The Hawking is a very large ship, a flat cylinder almost 2 kilometers across, with a large vertical opening in the back.

"Greetings, Centuri Station. This is the LRRSV Stephen Hawking. We come carrying a hyperspace drive for you. Once you get it installed, we can take off on a journey approximately four months long to the closest LRR outpost to the supposed location of the Karos ship graveyard, LRRX-287-4."

(I will start the 'Search For Karos' thread soon.)
21-01-2004, 01:59
OOC: we should probably also take this to a new thread soon

"this is docking control remain at your present course and speed, docking bay 6 don't mind hole we just...redecorating" the montone female voice of the docking control master said as she watched the LRRSV Stepehn Hawking slowly come into view.

small tiny construction ships scurried around around the space station going to and from the teh smaller docking bays to the large "hole" in the space station.

Paul stood waiting at the gate of Docking Bay 6, he smoothed out his blue silk shirt before looking at the rest of his clothing making sure he was presentable.

The Hawking motors into the bay very carefully, quite aware of its monstrous size. The massive battlecarrier moves into the bay, and docks with the station. As soon as the airlock is sealed to the station, Captain Colin Brooks comes strolling out of the ship, flanked by his XO. He is dressed in a standard LRR flight suit, adorned with small rank insignia on his uniform's sleeves and various patches. He soon finds Paul.

"Hello! I am captain Colin Brooks of the LRRSV Stephen Hawking. Its nice to meet you."

He extend one of his three bionic hands to Paul Richards.
21-01-2004, 02:59
he took a step forward extending his hand taking Colin's hand and shaking it firmly, Paul wasn't much of a leader, but he was excelent with international relations "greetings and welcome to Centuri Station, I am Paul, I am Mr. Resslin's Advisor, he unforuntately in unable to welcome you here himself as he is away attending a diplomatic party over a Proxima Centauri, anyways if you like I could give you and your bridge crew a tour of the Station if you like?"

He looked back at a small gathering of engineers standing at the doorway "if you don't mind I'd like to get my engineer's hands on that Hyper drive as soon as possible"

he smiled as he stepped to the side extending his arm outwards towards the door "shall we find some place to talk or should we begin the tour?"
Lunatic Retard Robots
21-01-2004, 23:33
OCC: It should be captain Sherlock Johanson, FYI. Colin Brooks is the professor.

IC:

"Ah, the hyperdrive! Yes, we will unload it now. Henry, unload the H-drive."
"Ok, captain."
"As for the tour, yes, that would be very nice. But i'm not sure you could accomodate all of our 120 crewmembers."

Outside, a pair of worker craft manouver the hyperdrive out of the carrier's massive docking/cargo bay. Almost half of the 500 fighter slots in the carrier have been replaced with areas to bring back various artifacts and technologies to study, and to pick up extra crew and specialty science ships at the rendezvous base.

OCC: Ok, let's stop this here and continue on the new thread.
