A new nation needs a new army.

Ah, The Democratic Republic of Zensekai. Beautifully pristine, with lots of rolling hills and beautiful mountains. Most of the country is rural area, with high regards for the ecosystem.

At the center of this baby nation is the capital. Home to about four million, out of a total of 6 million Zensekai citizens, this city contains almost no high-rise buildings.

Recently, within the Zensekai government, a growing concern arose. While we are a peaceful nation, other nations on this giant hump of rock may not be as peaceful as us. They might be after our natural resources, or they might be just jealous of our freedom. That's why Zensekai needs an army.

So, the government appointed a Defence Minister: Shinyu Rikigun. Born just outside of the capital Shuto, this minister received the order to realise a small defence force, nothing too big and fancy, that might come when the nation grows and the need is there.

Minister Shinyu did his job well. Within a reasonble amount of time, he created a small army, consisting of 10,000 volunteers, all armed with basic energy weapons. A number of friendly neighbour states donated some transport air ships, enough to airlift 5,000 of our soldiers to where they need to be.

Also, the minister bought freely available plans for a small defense tank, customised it a little to fit the need of this nation, and made five prototypes of this armored vehicle, now named the "Mark I Sakeru".

Looking out over a job well done, Shinyu has a feeling that somethings missing. Therefore he is here right now, asking for help from older, experienced nations.

[OOC: My first post on the forum, and i thought this would be a nice introdution to my newborn nation...]

[OOC: This is basically a question to you people.. Is this army realistic in size and capabilities for a nation of this size and this age?]

well your army is furture based so i dont know how it ranks along modern relism, in modern times your army seems good (the people and tanks) dont know about the air transports and how they fit in but from first impressions your army seams really realistic in a wierd futuristic way.....did that make sense :?

Zensekai, 2% is a good size for an army. That 120,000 for your nation, so you've got about 110,00 spaces left to fill :D

But as your a 'peaceful' nation i'd say about 1% which means you can have an army of about 60,000. Enjoy

You really shouldn't be having more than 2% during peace. During war, I suppose you could get 5% from increased drafting. Otherwise it's too much of a strain on logistics and the economy.
Zensekai, 1-1.5% is good for a nation of your size, although during war you could probably institute draft and get maybe 3%.

most advanced european armed forces don't utilise more than 0.5% of population, otherwise the cost of equipping and training this massive army with modern weapon systems is prohibitive.

if you go for more than 1% of population you will have a second rate army.

%5 will make a massive dent on your Economy.

1-3% peace time
4-5% invasion of another nation
5%+ Being invaded.

that is the list you should use

Thanks :)

Well my first goal was an army of 100,000 but that seemed kind of an overkill for such a small nation.. Guess it's not. I'd better go hang up posters in my capital, asking more people to volunteer ;)

In a weird kind of way, it does  :P

Well, it IS a future-based army and nation, i would say based around 2100, but it's not like the weapons are all powerful... The only real advantage from these weapons over 'conventional'w eapons, is the fact that the weapons are much lighter, and you can carry much more ammo with you. If some tribe with bow and arrow shot a bow through our heads, we'd still be dead.

Quite true. Which is why Cirith Ungul would like to be the first to offer to share some of its wealth with Zensekai in return for some information on how these weapons are created. Say, 1,000,000 goblins for the original plans?
