International Standard for Currency Exchanges?

We in the Realm of Ambrosia recently became interested (again) in creating exchange rates between our currencies. We have had some systems proposed internally, all of which can be found on our forums here:

One issue that was raised...is there an existing standard for doing this? Have any other regions done this? If so, what method have they used? What suggestions or ideas would you have for us?

Thanks in advance. Feel free to post either in this topic or in our forums.

In the Experimental Politics region we are in the middle of negotiating a monetary union between the majority of our member-states. This means the nations who adopt the single currency will accept to work on their economy (weak and lower-status economies are not accepted), forfeit their national influence on money supply and interestrates.

In exchange they will receive the permission to trade with the strong single currency, appoint a board member in the Central Bank and be able to issue governmentbonds at a significant lower cost.

We're still working on the details (in which the name seems to be much more important than it's economic importance  )

I'll keep you posted here

Here's a calculator for my formula, courtesy of Dennis Zografos:

http://www.xtalmac.com/conv.php

The formula being 2e+f+c+(p/1,000,000,000) = currency value
Where e is your economy number, f is your political freedom number, c is your civil rights number, and p is your population.

It's all dependent on the fact that your nation is not on the gold standard and that your currency is not heterodependent (e.g. like the Euro being shared amongst many nations, or the Euro being backed by the US Dollar in American bank reserves), so for those such countries this formula would not apply.

In the case of Experimental Politics, I believe the only way it would work with this formula would be to average the currency value of all participating nations and then use that. But that would be tedious and awful and atrocious.

With all due respect to my fellow Ambrosiaite, this is a roleplay matter and belongs in either "NationStates" or "International Incidents".

iMove  "NationStates".
