History of the Free Collective

13-01-2004, 13:18
OOC: This is more of a story than a Role-Play, simply encanting
the rise of the Free Collective from the shambles of the
oppressive Dictatoriship before it, to try to get a richer history of
the Nation....

IC:

New Flash: The Charagn military Police surrounded a small
village in the northern-most mountains within its borders at 3:00am
this morning. The village of Vaisah has been the stage-front of much
contreversy in the past few months, as the H.Q. of an alledged
rebellion, the leader: Thomas LeVay, whom the Military Police were
sent to capture.
Taking the village in a lightning raid without firing a shot, the
spokesman for the Charagn Inner-Defence Force boasted in a new
conference:

"Not a single troop within the military Police was killed,
and not a single shot was fired from the traitorous enemy..
And best of all, we've captured the greatest Traitor of them all!
He was executed on the spot, after..... Trying to escape."

All other in the supposed Rebel force are being processed,
and sent to the various Prison Camps, though the exact one
was never disclosed.

End News Flash.

Twelve years after that incedent, after life had carried on,
as the Government controlled news agencies remained hush, hush
of the attrocity.. Though that was soon to change.
In the forests that carpeted the mountains surrounding the village,
a group of loggers stumbled upon the truth; the remains of an
estimated One-Hundred and Seventy-Five Charagn citizens were dug up.
All of them were from the village, and only fifty of which were
confirmed to have been in the Rebel army, the rest, sadly, were their
families.

No explaination from the Government was given, a desperate attempt
at buttoning down the incident failed..
Dissent rose from the already uncontent public, after learning of
the truth, the Counter-Culture within the underground of Society
whispered of revolution and revolt.. And several did make it
past romors, but all had failed, meanign the massacre of several
hundred more, though the exact numbers are unknown.

In the next few years, a greater revolt was planned, after the
charismatic Director of the Armed Forces, Charles A. Menning,
whom had covert ties to the various underground movements, garnered
the support of many of his men.
It took many more months for action to take place, but it was
planned, finally, for the night of a yearly banquet; where all the
powerful Directors and governmental puppets swarmed to give praise
to the brutal Dictator which ruled the nation for his sixtieth year.

Pulling power-strings, and nearly bullying the Director or
Inner-Defence into manning nearly the entire security staff
for the gathering with his own men, he ensured that this coup would
succeed, unlike the ones preceeding it.

Storming the capitol building, where the annual Banquet took place,
the Gaurds not in the coup were either captured, or killed,
to a minimal loss of Seven of the Rebelious..
Though the tyrannical Dictator, in pinnance to his criems against
his own peoples, was tortured in front of the Capitol building,
having his fingers cut off with cable-cutters, his knees
shattered with the butts of weapons, and beaten nearly beyond
recignition.. before he was literally drug to the City Square and
hung to the supporting chants of civilians.

Nearly all those who were installed as puppets in the government
were exiled, News communitcations of all types. Once held by the
Government were seized by the Rebels, which were in turn were used
to spread news of the coup, and the truth of the plight..
And the coup snowballed from there.

Police forces, Civilians, and many Soldiers in the Charagn
Military rose to fight along-side those who originalyl began the
uprising. Bringing its numbers from a few hundred, to several
hundred-thousand.
Those who were loyal to the old Dictatorship were violently beaten,
and often murdered, bringing on many attrocities from the Rebel
side, though that was unintended.

All said and done, the estimated casualty listing read:

Military Personnal Lost: 10,400 of the 17,000 which remained loyal.

Civilians: 50,000 all-together, 8,000 suspected murders in the
resulting short-lived Civil War.

Rebel Forces: 80,700, great losses due to lack of equipment
allocation by the Rebels, and the fact that most of those who they
fought against were of the Elite Corps. of the Military.

---

The new Government was quickly installed, forming the Free Collective Republic. The Population, weary
of Dictatorship, and suspicious of any government. Though in the
first election of the new government, a nearly unanimous poll
gave Charles Menning, former Director of the Charagn Armed Forces,
and engineer of the coup, Presidential power.
It is now four years after that coup, the infrastructure has been
re-built, the economy is back on track.. Thanks to Industrialization.
The latest Census shows that the once struggling population is
beginning to steadily grow..

Name: The Republic of Free Collective

UN Category: Inoffensive Centrist Democracy
Civil Rights: Very Good
Economy: Very Strong
Political Freedoms: Very Good
Last Census: 6,000,000 Citizens

The Republic of The free Collective is a tiny, economically powerful nation, notable for its
complete lack of prisons. Its hard-working, intelligent population of 6 million have some civil
rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a
point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.
The medium-sized government devotes most of its attentions to Social Welfare, with areas
such as Law & Order and Defence receiving almost no funds by comparison. Citizens pay
a flat income tax of 13%. A healthy private sector is led by the Trout Farming, Woodchip
Exports, and Arms Manufacturing industries.
Voting is compulsory. Crime is relatively low. The free Collective's national animal is the
mallard duck, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and
its currency is the dollar.

In Closing: The Republic of the Free Collective is a nation of
5,639 Square Miles, the lands range from Cold and Mountainous in
the north, flat and relatively dry in the central plains,
Muggy, rainy and Swampy in the far south. The Western part of the
nation is the only portion with acess to the sea, its coast is dotted
with lights of cities, as well as great refineries.

OOC once again: I'm sorry for the lack of detail, it's certainly
not as great as the more experianced in NS could create, but I'm
new to this type of Role-Play.. Any suggestions or advice would be
greatly appreciated.
The nation is also looking for Alliegiances with others, as well as
a Region which doesn't mind smaller nations.

PS: Please don't invade! :)

EDIT: Sorry folks if it seemed like I godmoded the population, I accidentally crossed the populous of my other nation with this one.. my bad.

IC:

President Menning lay asleep in the Presidential Chambers of the Capitol Building. The sudden ring of the phone upon the nightstand aside him sent him skyward as he grunted and cursed. He could be reached at all-times by his staff, but he was beginning to regret allowing that.
Recollecting his thoughts, and sweeping his annoyance under the perverbial rug, he stammered for the receiver.. Answering with a weary, gruff voice:

"Yeah?.. Who is it?"

"Si-.. Sir, we have just recieved communique from two nations seeking Trade.. The governing Council requests you immediatly... Sir.."
The young man replied, obviously nervous by the President's graceless morning attitude.

"Alright, I'll be there A.S.A.P.... The stupid council always has to..."
His voice trialed off into a few more choice words.. Charles A. Menning was never a morning person, especially if he was waken.. But duty caled, and he answered.
He dressed quickly as though going to a Black-Tie event, even though he hated to dress up, the Council loved to show-boat.
The council itself was set up after the installment of the new government, comprising of Commerce, Industry, Environmental, Defence, Justice and Social advisors, to help guide the president, as well as to keep the Pople's voice in everything the nation did.

Charles made his way to the Council Room, which was large, not overly-grandios, but tasteful in decor. Stepping past the oaken door, and towards the Oval table which kept all the advisors in their respective place.
He shrugged off what ill-will he had for the morning with a thoughtful smile and bow to the group of men and women who sat around the table, before taking his place at the end.

"Mr. President, I would like to thank you for-..."
One of the advisors spoke, before being interupted.

"Stop.. Enough with the hospitalities.. I think w all know eachother well enough to not be so stuffy.. Just tell me why you woke me up so early.."

".. Alright.." Went one of the most respected of people in the council, a woman who made a name for herself by regaining the economy after the coup. ".. We've recieved two requests from Jeruselem and the Confederacy of SteamEarth..."

She continued on for an hour or so, running through options with furvor..
Nearly the entire council agreed it would be good to draw further upon the propositions, and reply was sent.

We'll start off with a couple of zeps once a month bringing in supplies, oil, industrial products with an escort of three planes, two Balomoral and one Defender.

The Free Collective News Agency

The President of the Republic of the Free Collective O.K.'ed the bill
which would bring into motion a nearly total revamp of the Nation's
Highways. An estimated 80% of the current highway system will be
resurfaced and widened, as well as new bridge constructed,
reinforcing of old bridges, and the addition of 34% more Highway.
Due to the relatively small work-force dedicated to Civil Engineering,
the entire construction will be in several phases.

Phase I: Resurfacing and Widening of current Highways.

Phase II: Construction and Reinforcement of Bridges and Tunnels.

Phase III: Clearing and developing new areas to make way for new roads.

Phase IV: New Road construction, allowing greater flow of traffic from
one part of the country to another.

The project is planned to be completed within ten to Eleven years, and will be headed by the National Office of Transportation, though master-minded by the Office of Defence.
It is both department's hope that this will allow greater access
to areas within the Nation's border, adding convenience for
day-to-day traffic, as well as more mobilization of Defence Troops
if the need ever arrises.

In other news:

The Rich get Richer, the Poor get Sicker.
As the economy grows, more and more people find larger sums of
money in their pockets. Though for some, the National Health Care
which is provided is not enough.
Epidemics of Flu and various other easily treatable deseases are
becoming fatal, as government endorsed Drug Companies cannot
keep up with demand...
Jeruselem

IC:
The Government of the Republic of the Free Collective thanks Jeruselem for its offered help, though we must respectfully decline the offer.
Even though our independance was gained little more than a decade ago, our people are still healing its wounds, importing medicines may lower the people's confidence in what they can do.
Currently, we are putting more of our National Budget into Hospital and Med. Company funding, as well as sponsoring charity drives within our borders in hopes of rising the figures even higher.
Again, we thank you for your readiness in giving aid, your Nation makes a great trade ally, and friend.

President, Charles Menning revised the statements made by the International Industry and Trade Office, citing that their conclusion was short-sighted.

".. Their statement does remain true, for the sake of national pride, we cannot willfully accept such aid; Although, for the sake of Trade relations between the Free Collective and Jeruselem, and for healthy competition in our own borders, we welcome, by the allowance of the Jeruselem Government, the most honest and fair Drug Company to sell their drugs in our lands. Though the Medicines sent for sell in our borders must pass testing and proven safe before they will be sold.

The air in the Confrence room was still and heavy, as though foretelling the burden which weighted itself on the shoulders of President, Charles.
He took a deep, solumn breath as he finished reading the current economic reports, the latest tax change did more harm than good.
The officials and advisors around him stood in bare silence, befre
one of them rose from his seat.

"Mr. President, sir.. We have recieved communique from Jerusuelem, responding to our request.. It has been accepted, and they offer allowing inspectors to review their factory.."
The young man spoke with an apathetic tone as he sensed the otherwise grim aura.

Before the President could respond, the head of the International Industrial and Trade Office butted in with a cynical demeanor.
"I am still unsatisfied with this! Allowing a foreign drug company to sell on our shores is a bad idea, our drug companies are already struggling, undue competition will drive them under even further."

With a quick raise of his hand, Charles shushed the mild up-rising.
"Now, now. I'm sure we can get through this without arguing.
The decision has been made, funding has been increased for Social Wellfare andDrug COmpanies within our borders.. They should be able to make it.
We need this agreement for more than one reason, but the main is the most apperant. Our people need to be taken care of.."

With that, all of the men and women who sat around the large, polished table brooded silently. After a few moments, the President stood from his chair and idly strolled to the one of the plate glass windows, staring out unto the view. He felt the eyes of his comerades upon him, tensing him quite abit.

".. What other reasons are there?"
One of the ever-Inquistive advisors asked.

With that, Charles grinned wryly as he bowed his head, clasping his hands behind him.
"When all of you make it home today.. I want each and every one of you to turn on an International news channel, and take heed to what you see.
Look around you, and you'll find the answer to that. Wars are breaking out all over the globe, most involving small nations such as ours.
Though we hold a purely defencive stance, we are still vulnerable.
Current short-comings in our economy insures that our defencive military will remain small at best, untill we can rebound from our most recent mistake.
It may seem under-handed to some of you, but Politics is all about ulterior-motives. The more Trade we have with them, the more they will be conserned with our protection.. And Jeruselem is a large nation..
Let's face it, we need friends in this world, I won't turn our nation into a puppet of another, but I will not let a false sence of pride doom us..."

With that, the meeting dismissed, everyone left for their other duties, and the President went to his Chambers. he settled into his over stuffed leather chair and took a sigh of relief.. Hew knew this rest would be short, but he savored every moment before his own duties took priority once more..
