"Your Number One Source For Military Information Inside the Federal Republic"

When one currently thinks of New York and New Jersey's FRSN, one does not think of its size, nor its technology. However that is changing, slowly but surely. It was announced today in a Congressional oversight meeting that the FRSN has purchased 100 Sunset built Cohort-III Cruisers. The Cruisers will replace the current Kidd class Destroyers which will be smelted down to form a smaller Destroyer class, and potentionally even a Frigate class. Admirals Nelson Fortune,Lance Towne,Mace Fletcher and newly appointed Admiral William Vaught of the 3rd Fleet were all unavailable for comment. However plenty of Captains commented and the general mood to be that of an estatic nature.

Unannounced to the general public was the fact the FRSN had far more personnel and ships crews than it did actually have ships. However this is no longer the case and it is expected that several vessels for the time being will have to preform with skeleton crews. At the Brookhaven Earth-Space Military Terminal lines had formed as soldiers were ferried to awaiting MacAuthur class Transports. A convoy at the moment is currently being formed to ferry the sailors over to Mars where a small ceremony is expected to take place for the transfer of such a large number of vessels.

Just what is the Cohort III one might ask? Well the Cohort III is a slow Cruiser at sublight however can get form Earth to Charon, faster than our own Carriers can. What she lacks at sublight speed however she makes up in weapons systems using advanced Phaser technology along with brand new Torpedo technology. However new beam, and matter weapons could not keep the naval techs at Chimera Yards from drooling at the prospect of getting a deflector shield generator. Just what does this mean for the FRSN? Well it means that our warships will be in the future far better protected from other weapons by shielding.

Now the Cohort IIIs did not come free, and they did not come cheaply. At 100 billion each, the Cohort IIIs are easily the most expensive warships in the FRSN. Just how will the Navy pay for it all? Well in installments of course. The first 40 Cohort IIIs have been already had their payments allocated with the next 60 expected to be payed off over the next several years(next month the other 60 get paid off.) The weapons systems and shielding however have been deemed by officals in the FRSN as "nessecary."

Federal Republic of New York and New Jersey Orbit:

The MacAuthur class Transports ferryed landing barges down to the surface to pick up crews and return them to the troop/cargo vessels. Forming up they would go in a giant convoy of twenty vessels, escorted by the newly formed 3rd Fleet which consisted of four Carriers at the moment but would expand to nearly 30 vessels once the first of the Cohort IIIs came online. The Carriers Bunkerhill, William F Halsey, Saratoga and Empress Sirithil were suppose to be flag vessels but with the 1st Fleet at Mars along with the 2nd Fleet as well and the Charon Defense Force watching over a weird group of vessels as came the transmissions from the Outer Rim the navy didnt have any other ships to spare for Convoy Duty, and with so many sailors no one wanted a raid taking out the entire convoy of 10 vessels. Carrying 700 navy personnel each, it was what could be gotten on such short notice but even then the crew number totalled 7,000.

On Earth a recruiting campaign was kicked into high gear and incentives for joining the FRSN were advertised. Spending only a handful of millions they targeted mostly high school dropouts with dead end jobs hoping to turn those same dropouts into career military promising to teach them essential skills to help them get by in the civilian world. It was definately meant to be enticing. Whether it would draw the numbers needed however was another story completely.
