Frederick Earley, second in command of the Canterras Line defenses walked the tunnels between each bunker regularly. The only lighting came from the electric lights which hung above his head. Also above his head, every 100 feet or so, was a ventilation tube cleverly disguised from peering satellites and aircraft above. It was notoriously quiet down here, and rarely did one see more than the odd cadet jogging the tunnels between the mess and the barracks.

So his surprise was to be expected when one armed soldier, came down the hallway, stopped in front of him, and saluted him sharply. He spoke:

"Lieutenant Earley, I have been ordered to deliver a message." He then recited as if from a record, "You are to return from here to the Akhen DI immediatly for new orders regarding the defense of the border formed by the Eilior Mountains. Your superior has been informed of the transfer." He extended his arm with a folded-stamped-and-sealed pink sheet of paper in hand. Earley took it, and the cadet continued to stare past him, as if he wasn't there--a stance at attention straight probably from his textbook.

Earley took off his glasses and peered at the sheet, raising an eybrow. The Eilior...

Within minutes, a satellite recieved information of Earley's departure and transfer. The nature of his mission was transmitted as UNKNOWN.

The Eilior Mountains, as it were, formed the the east border of Konania. It, with the Canterras Mountains, formed the in-between area known as the Konanian Basin. Compared to the Canterras, the Eilior was uninhabited.

Or so Earley thought.

After his breif trip to Akhen, Earley was brought immediatly to one of the entrypoints into the tunnel system. It looked very similar to the CDL except these tunnels were wider, the barracks were larger, and the bunkers were better armed.

And, most importantly, it was difficult to see from the sky.

Construction on the Eilior Defense Line had been going on for a little over a year. Most people in the high ranks of KNDF knew about it, where information was spread on a need-to-know basis.

The collection of bunkers, SAMs, artillery, airbases, bunkers, rocket artillery and tunnels that ran along the mountains are known as the Canterras-Eilior Defense Line. The lines had one purpose: To prevent any enemy force from moving into the Konanian Basin from the south, east, or west.

The north still posed a problem: Konania's miles of coastline, as well as the Strale and Peradel rivers provided possible invasion routes for an invading force, espescially since they led to two of Konania's major cities.

The North Coast Defense Initiative was designed specifically to solve this problem. A high number of air defenses was expected to be able to solve this problem, as well as a few somewhat stationary, floating airbases much like those used to drill oil.

New weapons technology was yet to be created, however, to solve the problem of military supremacy, but that would be rectified in some time.
