The New UN Resolution on Legalized Euthanasia

Xenophobinia

The Republic of Xenophobinia, with a dialectical marxist analyses of the situation, see this resolution as unacceptable.

First, the job of every doctor, is to save lives. A reverse of that situation, The People of Our Republic fear could lead to a certain lax in the development of new medical treatments. In other words, we fear that this could become the easy way out.

Second, the writer of this resolution, relies heavily on sentimental feelings and very little on actual logic. The idea behind this is to dupe the delegates into an illogical and emotional state of mind when they vote.

Another reason justifying this resolution, was the reason to die in "dignity." This justification is far too thin to actually base a resolution on. As I see it, killing a loved one is alright if you believe it's in their best interests, but you must pay the time in prison for taking that life. Or if the said person wishes to commit the act themselves, we see that as fine.

Frankly, injecting euthanasia in people with comas raises several striking issues. Among others, these people are not willing victims of this.

Now The Republic of Xenophobinia sees no problem with this resolution being passed in individual countries or regions under their own parliaments or ruling bodies. It should not be forced upon the world as a whole. In countries with universal healthcare this does make some sense. For in countries without universal healthcare, forcing the people to choose between paying health care bills or doctor's assisted suicide is an unfair choice to give them. And an immoral one. Now if there was a resolution for universal healthcare, then our republic would perhaps gladly vote for this resolution. But the world lacks the required prerequisites for this resolution.

Being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the tender age of 12 I have mixed feelings on this resolution. I know of many people with my condition in a far worse state than I and searching for 'a way out'. Indeed, I have been there. However, if euthanasia had been legal I would undoubtedly have taken it as my best option and would not be here now to enjoy my life (things got a lot better).

I agree that the legalization of euthanasia would give rise to many cases of murderers getting away with their crimes by pleading 'he wanted me to do it'.

In an ideal world people could chose to die with dignity, but in reality things are not so black-and-white.

I agree 100% with the Interesting Times representative.

We turned our back on the corrupt UN and it's pathetic policies long ago.

especially after the "Labor rights" resolution almost destroyed the Imperial Economy.

The supporters of the euthanasia proposal don't seem to be fighting very hard in this discussion.

The most worrying part of the resolution is "if the person cannot make the decision themselves it would be made by those closest to them on the basis of professional medical advice."

We of Nonsuch & Nowhere have already made euthenasia legal, but do not see how this resolution can be passed in its current form with the above quoted section intact and without additional safe guards to protect the welfare of all those concerned.

It seems to the democratic republic of wheelchairman that this resolution has a lot of faults. Agreeing with all the critiques in this discussion, we have a hard time understanding the voting patter thusfar.

The Confederacy of Xenophobinia will not your contribution as worthless if you don't at least contribute some reasoning behind your decision. Or some arguments to the reasons stated previously.

This post was referring to Spurland.

Jerusalem- It should but we're new at this. the classic "it's my first day" defence.
