A Strange sight: An Arrival

They Sailed in the depths of space, and sail was the correct term. Incrediably this small fleet seemed to be made of Sailing ships that where better suited to the Earth and the Sea... Yet they seemed to belong somehow to the Depths of space. They where Realmspace ships... Spelljammer vessels. Able to sail on the seas and in space, and they where deadly.
Onboard the lead ship the Elf stood proud, his flesh had a slight tinge of gold to it, at his side was belted a Moonblade, oh so rare, thought impossible for a Gold Elf to use such. He had denied that fact and took up the blade, and it had spoken to him and accepted him. That he thought had been his proudest day... He was wrong his proudest day was when it had chosen him to be a ruler, it had seen in him that he could be King.
Evermeet had been in uproar that day he remembered, for weeks and months the debates went back and forth what did this mean, then one had spoken up, ancient and old he had chosen Life in Death to serve his people, and had been chosen to recieve this message. 'The retreat is over. That is what this means, we shall leave these Isles, and indeed this world, and establish a new kingdom out there, I have been shown a place, a World. A world where Elves can strike a new life for themselves. A world of peril, but one where we can be strong.'
Others had agreed to this, and so they had copied the Ancient and secret fleet of Evermeet, and had departed... In their holds they carried treasures and artifacts of the Elven race, one that was mighter than any other. A Tree sapling, that when planted would release it's true age, and start the spread of High Magic. It would be a slow spread an age or two before a world was covered, but it would be a continuous spread... The Children of Corellon had came to Earth.
OOC This is Tor Yvresse. With me fighting for my survival I am finding it hard to roleplay other than TY's war. So here I am with a new nation... If TY survives great this nation will be a defensive nation if not... Then we shall see, but...

In Charon Orbit, on the SCVN-2800 John F Kennedy:
"Admiral Fortune, we have several unidentified contacts heading from out of the system, toward Earth. Its a small fleet of ships."The LIDAR officer called from his bridge station as Admiral Nelson Fortune moved behind him and blinked alittle at the appearance of the vessels. "XO, are we suppose to have any visitors today?" The Executive Officer looked down at his clipboard and flipped through several pages before moving over to the LIDAR station. "Negative Admiral. The LIDAR contact also doesnt appear to be able to classifiy them to any of the space faring nations."
Admiral Fortune moved away from the LIDAR screen and to the tactical board and looked as crew men updated it with the new contacts plotting out their suspected course at the current rate of speed they were traveling. "They havent changed course. Doesnt look like they've spotted us, Admiral." The XO called from the LIDAR station as it continued to track the ships." Admiral Fortune raised a hand to his chin stroking it lightly as he looked over the fleet listing. "Comm, contact the Ft Greene. Have them move to intercept the vessels. Then patch me into the rest of the fleet." Moving from the Situation board over toward the Helm Officer Admiral Fortune pointed out the route he wanted to take around Charon.
"Admiral, the Greene's CO is waiting for your orders."
"Captain Santos, this is Admiral Fortune on the Kennedy, your ordered to intercept the new contacts and see what they want in the area. They dont belong to any of the space faring nations so take caution, they maybe pirate, or possible Thelasian loyalist vessels."
"Understood Admiral. We're raising anchor and getting underway now."
The comm channel went dead before buzzing to life once more. The communication officer gave the thumbs up to the Admiral. "This is Admiral Fortune, all vessels are to follow ours. We're going to go around Charon to mask ourselves from the unknown vessels. If they require assistance we'll have surprise on our side. Fortune out." The ten ships of the Nomad Moon Defense Fleet began to move, the massive 890 meter (2,2920 foot) long cruiser Ft Greene departed the formation of vessels and began to pick up speed as her Helium3 fusion powered engines burned a bright blue in space. When it reached a sufficant speed the engines died it allowed the inertia to carry it forward, making only random adjustments every now and then.
The rest of the fleet ducked behind and between the small Planet and Moon combo of Charon and Pluto attempt to hide themselves from the approaching fleet. A single ISSAPC was launched from the Kennedy to relay its LIDAR signal however so the Carrier wouldnt remain completely in the dark to what was happening.

Of course to the Elves onboard the vessel they had no knowledge of the ships that where approaching them, a few Mages where scrying for approaching vessels, but... They where looking for the wrong things. In the future it was unlikely they would make such mistakes but, Scrying is a sensitive game, and if you look for one thing often you miss the truth.
'So my Honoured Ancestor, is this the place you spoke about?' his voice was respectful even as King he found it hard to act otherwise to the man behind him, this man had raised and guided his family since before the birth of his Father.
They could see many worlds ahead of them and indeed many of these worlds seemed possible places, to the new king he could feel Kindred souls from many of the worlds.
Slowly the Elven shape behind him spoke 'I think so my king, this place seems to hold what we seek, I will need to rest awhile and speak to the others to be sure.' A Close observer would notice strangeness about this Elf, his chest did not rise or fall, and his face seemed ageless. He never ate, or drank, he was dead, but he was not true Undead, this was not a curse but a blessing, he had chosen to serve his people for the rest of time itself.
The answer brought a smile to the kings face as he began to sing, a slow song, but a happy song, and the crew listened, with joy in their hearts, for their king was a gifted singer, how else could it be, for he was that rarest of breeds, a Bladesinger, Mage and fighter joined in perfect union, their fighting more a dance, their spell crafting more a song.
And so they never noticed the fleets approaching them, nor knew not that they where causing any stirings amongest others, they where simply enjoying the Stars and fates.

Aboard the Ft. Greene:
"Comm Officer, I want an open channel to those vessels." Captain Santos stood on the bridge with a pair of low light binoculars. He did of course think they were utterly useless as he saw the vessels and they looked like ancient earth sailing ships. He didnt want to look like a fool to the rest of the bridge crew so he decided not to have his Xo take a look, just incase he was hallucinating. He almost thought this was a dream. A really weird dream, but a dream none the less. The communications officer gave a thumbs up to the Captain when the open channel was ready. "This is Captain Santos of the Federal Republic of New York and New Jersey warship Fort Greene, to unknown vessels, heave to, and identifiy yourselfs."
The Xo moved over standing next to Captain Santos as the smaller vessels were now visable with the naked eye. Whispering to the Captain he said in disbelief "Just what the hell...I've seen it all now Cap." "So have I. This is the single most weirdest thing I've ever seen. I dont think Admiral Fortune is going to believe my report." The helm officer adjusted the course of the vessel so that the Cruiser passed far over the top of the smaller vessels, blocking out the sun and the stars the black hull of the Cruiser could only be distinguished by the lights on the warship. People could be seen on the inside of the ship staring out toward the smaller fleet below the entire crew basically stopped what it was doing in complete awe of what they saw.

Onboard the Dance of Stars King Giltheras and his crew had stopped indeed aboard all Seven of this Fleets vessels movement stopped. As his Flagship became dwarfed by this shape, this monstrous amalgmation of Metals, that seemed to sail amongest the stars. Where had any nation found so much Metal to place on a Spelljammer... A Part of him found it hard to imagine a world with so much ore! or People he realised to smelt and craft it.
'Could they be Dwarfs my King?' Came the cry from a few of his crew, those that is, whose mouths where not hung open in simple gasps of awe. For a second Giltheras was angry and the question then he laughed, and the mood of the crew, and it's confidence began to recover. 'Dwarfs? aye and Moradin himself built it, No my friends this is some unknown magic nothing more.'
Of course they had no Radios, or other forms of normal communication so They did not know of the messages being sent to them, still he turned to his House Mage. 'have you memorised this day Sending?'
'Yes My Lord, for we may have need to talk to the other Lords.' The answer was formal in such a setting as this, and the King was glad, although he would be light with the Common crew, it was good that they saw that even in such strange times order would be upheld.
'Then Send to the Captain of that Vessel this, tell him that King Giltheras of the peoples of Giltheran requests permission to board his vessel.'
'Of course my King'
Then the king turned to his Mentor his advisor and smiled 'And you will accompny me, we go into strange wonders and I would have your ancient eyes with me Honoured Ancestor.'
The Crew raced now into action five Soldiers stepped forward each dressed in Chainmail, and carrying the House standards. A small 'launch' was prepared as the House mage sent his Spell, a quiet voice in the mind of Captain Santos, that left the man knowing that he could reply.

Aboard the Bridge of the Ft. Greene:
Captain Santos moved back away from the bridge windows of the vessel, as the Cruiser began a lumbering turn circling the port of the fleet wide and then moved, its bow facing the bows of the other vessels as it finally came to a complete stop. Moving onto a single knee Captain Santos was unsure of the voice in his head. It was definatelly not something that ever happened. The executive officer turned his head and moved to help the Captain get onto his feet shouting orders, "Any response from the ships?" Looking over toward the Comm Officer who shook his head with his reponse of no. "What the hell is going on here? Battlestations! All hands. Weps, open missile tubes. Change the communications message, whatever you've done to Captain Santos, stop immediately."
The message was sent but as the vessels had no form of communications, they could not recieve it. A flashing light was seen on the bridge, as an Ensign with a flood light sent a morse code message with the same message as was being transmitted by the radio officer. On the outside the massive ships missile bays began to slide slowly open and locked into place. Captain Santos moved onto his feet once more and looked around toward his XO and shook off his head abit. "Dont fire on those vessels yet, Weps. They've got friendly intentions.Helm bring us to port ninety degrees.Open the hangar doors."
It was a simultanious action as the ship turned the hangar doors on the port side openned."Any response from them?" "None yet Captain."

They did not know of the confusion they where causing within the strange vessel , did not know what was happening. Still they knew one thing, those openings did not look friendly, and so men raced to Battlestations. Mages raced to the highest points ready to get a good view of their visitors.
'What do you think my king, What are those ports?'
'They look like... Black Powder charges, hundreds of blackpowder points... The crew of that vessel must be insane or Braver than anyone I have ever met, that much Blackpowder...'
Blackpowder invented on their world was never reliable, almost fifty percent of the time it exploded back in the faces of the users, but when it worked it was devestating any crew feared it... Now they thought they faced down a veritable arsenal of it...
When the hanger door opened Giltheras was relieved, his people might not die today after all... It was neither Courage nor trust that led him into his Launch however, but duty, if the captain onboard that vessel changed his mind... nothing he feared would survive the explosion of that Black Powder... Even if it didn't actually fire at them.
And so with a grace and ease the Launch moved towards the Hanger doors, and into the mouth of the strange vessel, the surrondings he feared inside would be as alien as the shape of the Monster outside.

Hangar Bay,Ft Greene:
The massive black doors of the portside hangar began to close behind the wooden launch. It landed on an elevator which raised it to a new deck. One much more lively than the previous one. The crew scurried about dragging various heavy tubing to fighter craft within the silver grey hangar bay. It was a large room, with craft on the deck that could be interpeted as the ships own launches. The crew stopped to look over at the launch every once inawhile before going back to their buisness. A pair of doors openned up on the otherside of the hangar bay and the Captain flanked by six Marines on either side.
Captain Santos stopped midway toward the launch as he realized it was a wooden launch. He couldnt wait to get some answers out of these people. Shaking his head off once more he continued his approach stopping just several feet away from the launch and called out to them, "Welcome to the Federal Republic Stellar Navy vessel, Fort Greene."

For a second confusion crossed the Kings face then he smiled, Humans at least he could understand Humans, he had feared some monstrous race, perhaps Beholders, but humans, humans where a normal. Still he could not speak the language this man spoke, and so he sang, a small song but it was a small spell he cast. Then he spoke, and somehow the words where in the tongue of these Humans.
'Greetings captain I am afraid I did not understand your greeting, still I am King Githeras of the people of Giltheran. With me is my Advisor and Ancestor Jervas, Head of the Baelnorn Council of Advisors.' The Banner bearers now unfurled the Symbols of both Githeras' house and of Giltheran. 'I hear amongest many humans it is custom to ask permission of the Captain to come aboard a ship, I therefore ask that permission.' Then he bowed with a florish if he was nervous to be here it did not show.
Actually he was terrified, but he was a King, his Banner men where different and the fear shone in their eyes, although they stood ramrod straight, Jervas, gave no sign of concern, and why should he... he was already dead.

Captain Santos nodded in welcome to the both of them and cleared his throat as he got ready to repeat his earlier statement. "Welcome, to the Federal Republic Stellar Navy vessel, Fort Greene. I am Captain Javier Santos, it is a pleasure to meet you, your Majesty. I'm sorry we didnt prepare a red carpet however, we werent really expecting a First Contact situation. Normally elves who travel in space, do it in much larger warships, or transport vessels. If you'll follow me to the bridge." Captain Santos turned around and dismissed four of the Marines, two of them remained they were dressed in more formal uniforms and instead of assault rifles, they had normal rifles. They were by no doubt a ceremonial guard.
"The Admiral of the Fleet, this vessel is attached to will be arriving shortly along with the rest of our fleet. Why didnt you respond to our attempt at communication?" Captain Santos was obviously very curious for answers as he looked over the elves. They appeared to be no different than any others he had seen in the past. He wasnt exactly sure though how to handle them. But he did remember there were some elven crew memebers aboard his ship. "And where in Hades did you come from anyway?"

Looking confused a moment Githras looked at the Captain 'We recieved no attempts at communication Captain... Indeed we sent You a Sending and recieved no reply.' A moments pause as the King digested the concept that his vessels where smaller than most Transports but he did not speak his amasement, he could not appear weak. Soon he picked back up the conversation 'We come from the Isle of Evermeet on a place known As Toril'
Then he walking stopped a moment in consideration for the first time he really noticed the Marines, and then he realised another wonder... Those 'Bows' they where Blackpowder weapons also. It was bad enough to trust a ship to Black Powder but at least that was an impersonal danger, this however was a personal one, they carried Blackpowder with them, they used Blackpowder close to their bodies...
Then another thought came to him, the Captain had spoken of a fleet, and an Admiral, if that fleets flagship was not this Ft Greene...
'Captain I apologise but I must ask, why is not this Spelljammer your Flagship, I have never seen so much Metal in one place, surely this must be the greatest vessel in your fleet?' The wonder in his voice was something he could not hide, and indeed even Jervas paused as he realised the implications of the question... a Fleet of Spell jammers such as this, not just a singualr vessel... but a fleet, all trusting in Black powder... and collectivly all the Elves shuddered as it seemed they reached the conclusion at the same moment.

"She's fourth in the line of our Great Cruisers, she isnt really a Cruiser in normal sense, she's more of a Battlecruiser.I guess the Research and Development teams back at the Chimera Staryards plan on putting out something larger than this. However she isnt the Flagship. That honor falls on another vessel. The FRSN John F Kennedy, she's not quite a big, and she isnt as armored, but she has more weapons, and carries far more Fighters than we have." Javier raised a hand toward the two doors on the opposite side of the hangar bay as he began to walk toward the direction of them calling back. "If you'll please follow me now."
Walking with the two ceremonial guard he couldnt help but notice the shudder. These two were definately curious folk. Strange for elves, very very strange. He'd also have to ask one of his Elven crewmembers later on about Toril and the Isles of Evermeet. He talked as he walked assuming they would keep up with him. "We'll be able to see your entire fleet from the bridge, and we should be able to see the rest of my fleet arrive from the nearby moon."
With the first contact having gone well, and with the threat of the vessels not being half as bad as what was expected the ships of the Nomad Moon Defense Fleet began to emerge from behind Charon, making not full speed but close to it. They came upon the port side of the Spelljammer vessels and within moments were visable, even the small destroyers measured in 460 meters (1,509 ft) long. However it was the two Carriers which should have stood out toward the crews of the spell jammers and the way they looked. Cannons visable on the hull, and odd box like objects which looked like smaller cannons, of course, there was a long very long cylinder which ran along the length of the Carrier. It would have been painfully obvious to realize why the Cruiser wasnt the Flagship solely from that.

'Your fleet, hmm I think I shall have to talk to my mages, to miss one ship is bad enough... to miss a fleet' A chuckle came from the Elf's throat although it mostly hid the shock... the Fourth and from the mans tone he suspected not the last, then further confusion as he stepped onto the bridge where was the Mage... Or and another thought crossed his mind, and then he dismissed it as impossible.
'Captain I wonder, and I apologise if this is Confidential, but where do you keep the Spelljammer Helm to power such as this Vessel.' Yet even as he spoke the words dried up in his mouth as the rest of the fleet came into view... and all of them he realised where Metal, and all used Blackpowder...
'Insane, your all insane' The voice came from one his Jarvas but it mirroed the look Githeras face completly.
Quickly the Baelnorn fell silent. Still the damage was likely done. In later years Githras would never make such mistakes in meetings he was destined to be a king, he was ment to be a king, and it was in him, he was a leader naturally, but he was new to such roles. Nothing can quite prepare you for a role fully, he was making mistakes he knew, even as he made them, and he was learning.
'I apologise captain, but you rely so heavily on Black Powder... we can hardly comprehend such a concept, your people are brave indeed.'
The Fleet
On all the vessels the Crews paused and looked with shock and wonder, as more of these Monstrous and unnatural vessels appeared in view. So many and so much Metal... It was impossible, slowly as people do, they invented methods, and the rumours spread, mages spoke of spells that made houses from models tiny models, of Mansions from a door. That seemed the only explanation, that these where simply such as those spells given permanency for it would be impossible otherwise to imagine how such as this was made.

The bridge was active with many people, including an Elven Lieutenant who moved form one station to another carrying a clipboard. To the guests it would have looked like a bunch of random flashing lights which had no particular meaning unless you knew exactly what you where looking foor. Of course though there was a computer display of one of the spelljammer vessels. It was only a hull profile though, above it was the title: Neutral Vessel. Standing at the bridge viewports Captain Santos smiled lightly as the rest of the Defense Fleet arrived.
"The Bravery I can comprehend, but black powder?" Javier looked slightly confused, and then the Xo stepped forward pointing toward the Ceremonial Guard. And the Captain finally got it and nodded his head slightly. "Ah you mean the rifles. Yes well the rifles use special casings to hold the powder in so it doesnt explode in our faces. It's all real technical and I dont really know how the guns really work themselves." The Captain shrugged uncertain about exactly how it all worked himself. He wasnt sure as well the two also meant the weapons the ships were using themselves.
The XO gave a confused look though when mention of the spelljammer was brought up again. It was clarified slightly when he put two and two together. The word spelljammer probably had several different meanings but he and the Captain thought about it. Javier nodded his head slightly and moved through a new pair of doors toward an elevator, "Please follow me then. We dont call them Spelljammers, we use a Fusion Power Core, really another one of those things that just gets alittle too technical for my understanding. All I know is that it works, it works well, and it keeps the ship powered and moving."
When the elevator stopped and the doors openned Javier stepped out onto the engineering deck. The deck was grated and had holes in it which allowed them to see the deck below that one and all the wires and such between the two decks. Infront of them reaching several stories tall was the massive reactor marked with warning signs it wasnt really much to look at as it was all painted battleship grey. "What your looking at right now is the radioactive shielding covering the fusion core. But thats pretty much it.Our engineers love this thing, to me, the bridge is the place to be."
Admiral Fortune had moved from the Kennedy and was now on the Fort Greene, he was going to meet up with the King and his Advisor on the bridge. He didnt feel like taking the 50 cent tour of the vessel. Although he would probably give them another one if they decided to visit the Kennedy.

Relieved by the small description of the precautions they took, with the black powder, the two elves where happy to follow the Captain, the elevator itself was no wonder to the elves, although in their minds it was a simple levitation spell that powered it, and also in their minds other conclusions where being drawn, some false some nearer to the truth than they could have hoped.
The Elf for example on the Bridge, was treated as if he belonged there and it was natural for an Elf to walk among them, it reminded them of Fabled, and lost, Myth Drannor, how they had achieved their wonders by combining the strengths of Man and Elf. To them a union of two such peoples could begin to explain these wonders they where seeing. It also gladdened their hearts to see an elf, it confirmed they had nearly reached what they sought.
Still nothing could prepare them for the Fusion generator, no mage sat here, and they stood in awe, but then they fought what mage could power such beasts as this. 'Captain I cannot claim to understand what I see here, it seems impossible to me, to us. Yet I thank you for me this, and being so open with us. Perhaps one day I can return to you the favour.' He paused a moment in consideration.
'I suspect that we have misunderstood a lot here, I must ask one question, you mentioned previosuly other Elves that travelled in space, do they use such vessels as this, or ones more in keeping with our own?'

Captain Santos let out a small hmmm from his throat as he thought about how big the Menelmacari Dreadnaught was. He gave up though after a few seconds and shouted out past his two guests, "Hey Madison, how big is the Menelmacari Dreadnaught?" A call came back from somewhere on the engineering deck, "Give or take its about one and half, if not alittle more kilometers,Cap." "Thanks Madison." Looking over toward his guests once more Captain Santos prepared to give them yet another shock. "The Menelmacari Flagships are about twice the size of this vessel." Giving his head a small knowledgable nod as he figured Madison was about right as he moved back into the elevator and waited for the two guests once more.
When they were back in the elevator Javier decided to start asking questions again. "So what kinda weapons do you have on your ships? You've certain seen our torpedo tubes openning up. But we've got more than just that, so what do your vessels use to defend themselves?" The Captain was curious, such small ships couldnt possibly pose a threat to the Ft Greene, and he suspected they were scared as hell of the Greene, and were probably terrified of the rest of the fleet. No matter how misplaced that fear actually was.

A Name menelmacari and they used this type of vessel if somewhat larger...
'Two Ballista's and a Catapult Captain, and before you ask, yes I mean a real catapult and a real balista.' Somehow he knew the Captain Would wonder about that
'We utilise a Mix of rounds of course, before we left Evermeet I commisioned work into Fireball and Lightening, Bolts, feeling that with the Tree of Souls in my care it was important to protect it in transport.' He also thought to himself as he spoke, and it seems with vessels like this out here I shall need to think bigger in the future...
'Each Vessel also has a complement of Mages attached, and a Baelnorn like my Ancestor here, and of course a Complement of Clerics, as well as Arcane Archers, and the like. I felt it wise to take as many with me as we where able to. The Dance of the Stars also carries 5 Bladesingers, my companions of old before the Moonblade showed me as king.' He spoke the names as if the ment something, the title of Bladesinger was said with conviction as through it was a thing that mean the same to all no matter the distance.
Indeed when he had saw an Elf he was sure they would understand the term. He of course would not understand that to the Captain perhaps much of this would sound fanciful, Clerics, and Archers?

He was just about to ask as well if he actually meant two catapult and ballista but was quickly put at ease with his wonderment at the next set of words stepping back onto the bridge, he saw Admiral Fortune with his Executive Officer and snapped to attention. Admiral Fortune looked over toward Captain Santos and moved and gave him a small pat on the shoulder, Santos relaxed abit and moved behind the Admiral who was in a more ceremonial white naval uniform. "Welcome to the Sol Sector, my name is Admiral Nelson Fortune, I command this small Defense Fleet you see here. I hope Captain Santos has treated you two well thus far."
Captain Santos looked over toward his XO as he approached and looked down at the clipboard he was holding signing off on the order. "Admiral, with your permission, I'd like to show our guests a weapons drill. Its about time the fleet normally got off a few shots to make sure calibration of the guns, and the missile tubes are up to Navy Standard." Admiral Fortune looked over toward the Elves and then looked at the Captain once more. "No need we shouldnt be wasting their time. I'm sure they have plenty to do. Allow me to cut through the pleasantries wont you? Where were you headed?"
Captain Santos tensed, Admiral Fortune wasnt exactly known for his diplomatic skills and it made him remember exactly why the Navy had wanted to assign a civilian ambassador and staff to the Flagships of the fleet. It just made much more sense to have a civilian offical who catered to small talk and show incharge of such situations like this.

This Admiral was very different still he sensed the man ment no offence and although Sun Elves where perhaps the most uptight of the Elves, they where used to more frivelous peoples. Actually he thought, he was rather relieved not to face a Weaons Drill, these Humans seemed at ease with Black Powder but...
'Admiral to be truthful I don't know where we are heading, We set out guided by Correlon and dreams given to a few chosen. All we know is it is a place of Peril but wonder and that it lies somewhere in this... 'Sol Sector' you name.' Taking a deep breath he wonder if he should explain more before he could reach a decision Jervans spoke up and made the choice for him.
'Our people you must understand long ago went on what was called the Retreat, then Githeras was chosen as King, a second Monarch had been chosen by the Moonblades.
We took it as a sign something was going to change and we where correct, it was time for the retreat to end, but the reasons for the retreat had not altered. The spread of humanity was continuing on our world, not that this is a bad thing, but humans and elves have...' He struggled momentary for the right words and then found them,
'different views on how resources should be used. It is unfortunate but Humanity would want to use what we would preserve, It seemed that our return would not be to Toril, and the dreams confirmed this. So we find ourselves here, we look for a place you call, let me see if I have this right, Dirt, or Rock?'

Admiral Fortune just looked at the two Elves before he looked over toward the direction of Captain Santos, who himself was looking over toward the Executive Officer, who himself had called over the Elven Lieutenant. Admiral Fortune turned around and the Elven Lieutenant looked rather lost, Fortune surpressed a laugh as he turned around looking toward the two once more. "Dirt and Rock, I take it you mean Terra? As for your conflicts between Humans and Elves, well if they were peaceful where you come from, here's a rude shock. It's all out warfare where we come from sometimes. Elves, Trolls, Orcs...its a mess in the system I'll tell you that much." Admiral Fortune looked as if he had seen it all in his life time.
Looking over toward the direction of Captain Santos, he had changed his mind on the weapons drills. "Captain Santos, speaking of a mess, we're going to escort these ships to Terra. Well, we can take'em far as Jupiter, and we'll turn them over to Towne's Second Fleet." Looking back over toward the direction of the Elves he gave a small apologetic look. "I'm sorry, but the best defense is a good offense and vise versa,so we're going to do a quick drill of the primary weapons systems across the fleet. Do you want to stay here or return to your vessels?"
Giltheran
12-01-2004, 08:29
'Terra yes, that seems correct. or one of the names I was given.' Jervais spoke quietly wondering what the King would choose to stay onboard while they fired their weapons or return to the fleet? Either would likely be as dangerous he thought, indeed the idea of firing those weapons for no purpose seemed a foolish risk indeed... Again all he could think was insanity. A Part of him suspected it wasn't but, since the arrival of Black Powder Jervais had been convinced of one thing... Fools toys, they would use something so powerful, yet they had not the training or the skill of a mage. They where fools given the power of God's.
Giltheras meanwhile was studying the Elf leutenant, much like the Captain he had seen many simualities but something was strange about this elf... He was the same he knew that much... but he was different, not wrong different he realised. It was like staring into a reflection everything is the same but out of place. It fascianted him.
Ten finnaly he spoke as if he had been considering the matter What is there to consider, I'll take my chances on the Dance of Stars... was the thought that flashed through his mind. Still he could be polite and dignified 'I think Admiral it best to return to my fleet, and my people. The Great House Leaders deserve to know of the help you shall give us getting to this Terra. We are close now as well, and have much last minute arrangments to complete. The sort of things that no matter how well organised always seem to be forgotten.'

"Before you go though..."Captain Santos said as he moved over toward a locker on the bridge and popped it open. Walking back over toward the King he held up a device. "This is a field radio. It's currently patched in to contact any vessel in this fleet. All you have to do is press the talk button when you want to send something, and let go to listen to the response. This should clear up any communications problems between our two vessels for the time being. Now if you'll excuse me I have to prepare for the fleet wide drill. My Executive Officer Commander Haradin will escort you back to your vessel. It's been a pleasure to meet the both of you."
Admiral Fortune nodded to the two Elven guests before he turned away and walked over toward the communications officer. "Radio the Kennedy, tell them I'm transfering the Flag to the Greene, and then get me the rest of the fleet. " The communication officer gave the thumbs up signal when Fortune was ready to talk to the fleet. "This is Admiral Fortune on the Greene, all vessels are to prepare for Weapons Drill. The Greene will lead the way, followed by the Carriers, and then the Destroyer Squadrons. We've got vistors folks, lets give them a show to remember."
The Executive Officer moved through the hallways of the vessel once more allowing for the two Elves to keep up with him all the way back to the hangar bay below where the launch sat untouched by any of the crew. It even had a small guard of Marines attached to it who snapped to attention when they saw the Elven King. A red carpet had been arranged and it was rolled out for them this time around. "On behalf of the Federal Republic of New York and New Jersey, we once again welcome you to the Sol Sector, we will radio you when we are prepared to get underway to escort your vessels to Earth. We do hope you enjoy the show."
On the bridge Admiral Fortune stood waiting. He wanted the Elven King to be back aboard his vessel when the shooting started. He didnt want a stray shot hitting the launch and causing an incident, but he also wanted to make sure the King was comfortable when the firing started. Talking with Captain Santos he couldnt believe half the things he heard. Well the things he understood that was.

'I understand, and thank you, indeed this will make contact easier, my Mages will not need to cast Sending saving such for contacting the rest of my fleet. I thank you. May Your days be green and goldern.' After the final plesently on the Bridge Githras and Jervais turned and followed the XO back to the Hanger bay.
Githras was happy to leave the ship of these humans, in a way he liked them, actually if he was honest with himself he admired them in some ways. Yet... he felt that they played with things that where better left alone, like a mage that sought in the lower planes for answers.
It was a short journey back to his Flagship but he wasn't idle on the journey, far from it. He was readying his orders. When they returned he would get as many spells in place as he could, across the Fleet if need be, every single Cleric and Mage was going to be on Deck, and every last one of them was going to be casting as if their lifes depended on it... because, they might very do.

"Admiral it appears that the vessel the Elven King was on is back at their fleet and is secure once more." Admiral Fortune grinned and turned around from the viewports. The grin however quickly faded as he shouted orders. "Captain Santos, take us to battlestations. All asteriods in the Kupier Belt are considered hostile." Captain Santos nodded and moved over toward the Weapons Officers station flicking on the alarm, the bridge lights dimming slightly along with lights across the ship as the weapons began to power up and the crew moved to their combat stations. The internal intercoms blarred, "Battlestations, all hands man your battlestations."
Raising his watch Admiral Fortune timed the readiness of the crew, looking up periodically up toward the ships status board as sections lit up with conformation of battle ready status. When the last compartment had given the conformation a good three minutes and fourteen seconds had passed. "Decent Captain Santos, your newbie crew just did better than the other Cruiser crews in the fleet. Lets see if they can shoot straight too. Weps, clear the tubes, free range targets. Make sure none of the asteriods are near the...what did they call'em?" Captain Santos pipped in, "Spelljammers, Admiral." "Right...make sure none of the fire is near the Spelljammer vessels."
The weapon officer nodded his head as he flipped the electronic switches to the Torpedo Control Board. From the bow of the vessel the six torpedos slid from their tubes, the slender white anticapital ship missiles were dummy training rounds. The Cruisers carried only so many active torpedos that it would have been a waste to use them. The dummy rounds however looked exactly like the real ones and they sailed above the spelljammer fleet heading behind them toward the direction of one of the asteriods. After two minutes impacts could be seen as rock was blasted away from the impacts but no explosions took place. On the bridge the Weps Officer reported. "Impact Torpedos 1-6 dead on."
"Weps, clear the Gun Tubes." Came the next order from Captain Santos and the Weapons Officer was only to happy to oblige as the railguns turned on their turrets to face asteriods not behind but to the sides of the spelljammer vessels. The rapid firing cannons started after a few moments though phosphorus tracer shells fired first before the shells were fired afterward. The asteriod which was targeted took several dozen hits a few missing wide and striking asteriods to the side and behind of the one under assault. After about a minute firing stopped for the analysis. "76% hit ratio Admiral...The Admiral winced...he knew the installation of the rapid firing mass drivers on the new Cruisers were still a bad idea...those hit ratios would need to be increased by another 11% before they reached Navy Standard.
"Alright fine, lets move onto the main show. Beam weapons forward. Prepare the light show." The Weps Officer grinned, this was the first time the beam weapons were fired. The Cruiser began a lumbering turn as the ventral thrusters came to life lifting the cruiser up above the Spelljammer vessels so none of them would get hit. Coming to a stop the Wep Officer waited as Admiral Fortune raised his hand. "Wait for it......wait.....FIRE!"Moving his arm down in a swift motion he allowed for a minute to passby before the Cruiser's bow section lit up and the four heavy Beam Cannons came to life. The crimson red laser cannon beams cutting across space over the spell jammer ships toward an asteriod behind them striking it and punching right through the rocking until it was stopped by the iron ore inside. The ventral and dorsal turrets joined in, although they did not have the same intensity as the four heavier beams, they looked more more weaker than the main ones and did half the amount of damage. The beams themselves didnt last more than 5-10 seconds between shots and when it was over three minutes had passed and the asteriod had been reduced to smaller chunks as well as several other asteriods behind it.
"Report?" "Iron ore in the asteriod stopped some of the beam ,but we burned right through it after the sixth shot Admiral. There is still enough out there however to collect and mine." "Commander Haradin, mark the position with a bouy, we'll relay that information to the Merchant Fleet Command. Its the Kennedy's turn now."

Confusion. Utter confusion. How could these things actually operate in space? The Reaper of Light (Part the Second) plotted a course to intercept these strange sailing ships in space. Investigation was in order.

The looks on the faces of the Crew of the vessel where strange. when the Torpedoes passed over head terror was evident those things would be filled they feared, with Black Powder. Yet when the Beam weapons started if anything they calmed down... The reason of course was simple a Beam weapon could be seen as a spell, they could understand the magic behind it they thought... while those things, they where unsafe.
After the firing seemed to calm for a second Githras looked round and smiled towards Jervais... 'I think our Admiral friend is showing of, would you agree?'
The Baelnorn nodded his agreement, 'Tell me that Asteroid over there could you hit it with a Fireball from here?'
Again the Baelnorn smiled he understood his Kings intentions, that was extreme range, indeed if it where not for his age and studying of the Magics, it would be impossible. Yet he could reach it... Besides he had noticed a strange thing onboard the vessel... he had seen no Mages, he began to suspect they HAD no mages, they where like the Dwarfs.
Slowly Jervaius walked to the front of the vessel towards the Asteroid, and was surronded by flickering lights from Githeras. All of course to draw attention to Jervais. Then he began to chant and the wave it was a short spell, and the small ball of fire could be seen to leave his hands soon after racing towards the Asteroid and exploding a shower of energy... The Asteroid was crsuhed under the impact, Jervais had been practicing for a long time... and had many ways to enhance a spell...

"Admiral, we registered an energy spike from one of the spelljammer vessels, shortly afterwards an asteriod vanished form our sensors, crew from the forward decks report in, a ball of fire was shot from othe lead Spelljammer vessel." The Admiral grinned, it was a challenge and he walked over toward the communications officer, flicking on a private line to the Kennedy and the Powell he gave his orders specifically to both Captains. "You have permission to fire the KPWs. Also, when you launch the torpedo rounds, make sure to incorporate one to three live torps."
The response from the dual Carriers was afirmatives, and they began, however they began with the laser cannon rounds which were nothing to be amazed at it appeared to the Elves. The next thing would terrifiy them to no avail though, each Carrier picked out a specifically large asteriod, and one after another from tubes around the front, and sides of the ships torpedos began to launch, one right after another until the space was filled with 144 of the massive anti capital ship weapons. They split however into two groups of 72 heading toward their respective targets smacking home each one, several massive explosions could be seen splitting the asteriods in two as about 6 from each of the Carrier Salvos were actually live rounds instead of the dummy ones.
When that show was over the Carrier captains talked with each other for abit and joked around turning the keys to arm the Kenetic Particle Weapon. It was the Federal Republic Stellar Navies successful attempt at plasma weaponry, of course at the time what it took to get it to work was actually make the weapon one massive spinal mount. However this meant the weapon produced a tremendous amount of power, albiet nothing like a smaller more advanced gun but nothing to shrug off either. After a few moments of waiting, both vessels fired their KPWs, the green bolts streaking across space and smacking into random asteriods, they were surprisingly rapid fire weapons, and after only a mere four seconds another shot was unleased, followed by another, this happened for nearly a minute before the two guns finally went silent and the green bolts finally stopped.

Admiral Fortune stood on the bridge watching the exercise take place, discussing the issue of the elves with Captain Santos. When the Menelmacari came up, a light bulb flashed in the head of Admiral Fortune, who moved over toward the comm officer. "Get me the nearest Elven Battlegroup, they're gonna wanna hear about this." The communication officer toiled for a few moments and then raised his thumb as he found one of their Battlegroups some distance away. "Menelmacari Warships, this is Admiral Nelson Fortune of the Federal Republic Stellar Navy, we have info you might be interested in and should pass along to your fleet command..."
Admiral Fortune discussed all he knew of the Elves and just hoped whoever was in command of that Battlegroup took the issue seriously enough to handle the message properly. They would tell however in a matter of mere moments waiting for an actual response.

The Explosions from the life fire Torpedoes sent many waves of Terror throughout the crews, Blackpowder they had know it... Black Powder. As Asteroids where obliterated around them many of the crews actually ducked although none hid... not out of courage, so much as deciding they had nowhere to Hide!
Jervais however watched, and observed. At first he had been as terrified of the weapons as everyone els. Now through he understood. Their Powder was controlled, they would not explode randomnly. The Humans had mastered it's use. Still the sight was impressive, as was that of the Green bolts of fire that raced across the skys towards the Asteroids. The power of such technology was amasing, that they could utilise it so rapidly. He suspected given time They could create magics of more power, but they would always be limited by the time factor, a Mage would need longer to cast a spell, these devices replicated that process, and shortened it... Fascinating.
Then it was his turn, no fireball this time he thought. They have seen that. Hmm what to cast, then he smiled, His hands reached into the pouches of his clothing, and he pulled out from within them a scroll. Unrolling it he began the chant, In the space around another Asteroid a Hand appeared, huge in size, Jervais began to close his own hand to form a fist, and the giant hand did the same. Struggling for a moment, as if he held something in his hand, Jervais litually crushed the Asteroid to dust when his fist was closed that of the Asteroid the giant hand held was also... Then the hand opened, empty.

Admiral Fortune had, had enough and he didnt want to display his entire hand to the Elven King. Not unless he had to at least. The Destroyers wouldnt get their chance to show off and after a brief radiocall to the Elven King to inform them of the fleet movement the vessels of the Nomad Moon Defense Fleet began to shift formation and moved at the same speed as the Spelljammer vessels toward Earth. The Carriers fell behind picking up the rear, and the Destroyers forming a loose sphere around the ships, and ahead of the pack was the Ft. Greene, her engines burning a bright blue.
Moving out of Mars Orbit were 8 ships, they werent however none of the class the Elves had seen though. They were new ships, ships just recently commissioned in the Federal Navy. More would be on the way when their crews would be transfered over, however it would still be sometime. Besides the NMDF(Nomad Moon Defense Fleet) expected a Menelmacari Battlegroup to show up at any moment to take the Elves off their hands.

'Understood captain... and thank you for the escort.'
the voice of Githeras came back a few minutes later from the Radio, it had taken a while for the king to fully grasp the concept. It seemed simple enough now, although he was still thinking in terms of spells. Not that he would have minded to find out his simple mistake. When the new vessels of the humans rose to meet them he was impressed again, so much metal he began to wonder if all these Humans did was build and mine, but he had his doubts, the vessels looked functional and deadly yes, but they had a look of a people that knew other than just how to work a forge.
The strange shape of the Scarab was missed at first, and when it was found, many watched it in confusion, it was not acting hostile, but where exactly had such a thing came from? Some of the more learned mages, began to question if it came from Mechanius, another dimension that was rumoured to be made of Cogs and wheels. Others wondered what it's purpose amongest them was. So they watched it carefully, an armed guard was eventually formed led by one of the five Bladesingers. Yet this armed guard did not attempt to provoke the strange creature, nor did they attempt to restrict it's movements, they would only act if the creature attempted harm upon them or their vessels.

The scarab examined the deck of the ship, constantly skittering from one feature to another, looking for signs of technology and ignoring its guards. It did however, find none, and it faded away mysteriously.
An hour later, or thereabouts, the Reaper of Light - Part the Second sent another emissary, this one, a tall female elf, of the quendi veriety, somewhat different from the elves of Giltheran, but still similar, about six foot seven inches, dressed in fairly imposing robes of gold and jade-green. She appeared - from nowhere, appearing very much as if she had travelled by using some arcane spell of teleportation - which was pretty much the truth. She stood on the fore deck of the king's ship, and awaited a reaction to her arrival.

The strange Elfs arrival was more... Acceptable, understandable and while it did get a reaction of surprise it was quickly lost as Crews went about their busisness. talk was still spreading of the strange creature that had visited them.

If they thought it strange the woman took such an interest in Jervais no one said anything, indeed it was not so strange, he was after all undead, and many elves could sense such things. 'Strange until we arrived in this region of space we had concevied of no other vessel type. in all honesty my people did not invent the Spelljammer, the originals crashed on our world and we merely copied the design.' He left out that despite this fact the vessel that had crashed on Toril had been crewed by elves not unlike himself, that was not something he needed to explain he thought.
'Still where are my manners I thank you for your greeting truely it is a strange region of space we have entered, but it is where we need to be. But tell me what brings you to us, and how did you hear of us.' A Momentary thought crossed his mind, could this be the Menelmacar that the Captain and the Admiral spoke of, or be a repersentative of such a body. to be honest he was unclear on what exactly was ment by menelmacar, while it sounded like a nation, and not if that where the case this persons, it might also be a race of elves, or indeed an organisation, he was operating here completly in the dark.

'So the creature from before was some sort of Golem, fascinating, I have not heard of golems being given sentience before, I'd imagine such a thing would be possible, but the cost....' Although the term could be used in referance to money something about the way he said cost spoke of something else, a far greater cost.
'So your people are not native to this region of space either then, interesting, are any Elves here native, or are the ones I have seen also colonists?' In a way the answer here would be telling Githras was one of the few who knew the simple truth bout his people, the Gold Elves alone where not native on Toril, but descended from a desperate gambit to escape a dying world, but when they had gotten to Toril they had found other Elves already there. History had he thought almost repeated itself, they had left Evermeet to find other elves, at journeys end.... Perhaps a distant part of him thought, they are descended from the same disaster that drove us to Toril, the missing part of our peoples!

Noddding feeling a little disappointed but accepting the answer about the elves the knowledge on the Scarab was fascinating and bore investigation.
'The Spelljammer is a complicated procedure, many spells go into it's initial construction, many beyond my abilities to cast, and understand how they join together in this aspect I admit. One such spell for instance is, above us, a dome that keeps the air in. However the heart of the vessel is rather simple, when all is layed out, and the vessel finished power must be created. As I am sure is the case on all realmspace vessels, that power is, on this vessel magical in nature.' Pausing he pointed towards an elf who seemed to be sitting with a strange device placed over his head.
'More specifically, a mage. It is a simple matter of placing the Helm on your head and concentrating. The power is drawn from the Weave through the conduit that the Mage provides, draining the mage for a while, and powering the vessel. Obviously one mage alone would not have provided the energies needed to cross the distance we have crossed, but the effect of the Helm is not permanment, and so a team of Mages can provide the power neccersary for the journey. Indeed I myself have provided the energies required at times although my own magics are minor compared to others who have fulfilled the role.'
Githras smiled 'Truth be told Lady Fealen, we are more amazed by the wondrous methods of power generation your peoples use, you are able to generate the power needed to move across the stars without draining a mage. To free up so many mages for other more important tasks why such a gift must be welcome indeed amongest your people!'

Fëaelen observed the mage and listened to the explaination with a measure of interest. This - procedure - did indeed look most curious to the yngir, magic power no less‼ That was something she'd not seen in such a very long time she'd almost forgotten anyone did it. She briefly contemplated mass destruction now, to save her the effort in the long run, but a brief glance around showed that these people were not going to be a threat to her. They seemed vaguely like the elves she was familiar with, if much more technologically primative, and rather more magical. She thought for a moment about the king's question.
"I must say that's a most interesting means of propulsion. But, I suspect it is not as much of a boon as you imagine. In this region of space Mages seem are by far rarer than they seem to be wherever you come from. I would say that the relative lack of mages more than makes up the numbers," she said, rather truthfully, these people did seem to have more magicians than one could shake a stick at.

'To be truely honest with you through, we do indeed have many mages, our people are naturally gifted in magic, in runs in our blood, I do not doubt it is the same for all Elves, as the Blood of Corellon flows in us all.'
Again he paused and smiled, 'If my lady would care to experiance the Spelljammer for herself, I can see no problems in her powering the enchantments Yourself briefly. A Simple nod as he gestured towards his cabin as he walked to join his friends, although he did pause to hold the door open. The Cabin itself was comfortable if a little small, a functional room on a vessel that had to sail between the stars, a Table had been set with drink and food, the food itself seemed a little, basic. 'I am afraid that with such a long journey behind us, we have been relaying more on Clerical food than on fresh food, the Seldarine is generous but... it cannot replace the taste f real food, grown or hunted for. The Evermeed through, it should make up for what is absent.
A Decanter of wine sat in the center of he Table, the other Nine guests had already taken their places around the table, a spare seat left next to Githras' for his guest. Pouring a Glass for each of the Eleven himself Githras stood and raised his glass 'My Freinds before we start may I propose a small toast, in Memory of our old lives, as we prepare to build our new. To the Everqueen, may she one day find the the peace she has earnt, and join him that waits for her in Arvandor.'
'The Everqueen' came the response from the others around the table as they each took a small sip of the wine, a look of pure joy crossing their faces.
