Introduction

Background

Originally, Magnus Valerius was a collection of squabbling petty kingdoms vying for dominance in the region. The five most powerful of these kingdoms were Baden, Sylvana, Metaxas, Deliyannes, and Vedus. However, the appearance of a prophet in Vedus would establish a dominating kingdom.

The prophet was St. Valerian (162 B.C.E. - 91 B.C.E.), a poor missionary who strengthened Vedus by aiding in the raising of foodstuffs and funds. He also created a large following. Eventually St. Valerian became king, and conquered most of the southern kingdoms, along with the island kingdom of Metaxas. Vedus was renamed Valeria, and a new capital from the old one at Vedus was founded: Valerius Prime. Vedus would decay into a small backwater town, and remain so all the way up to the modern era.

St. Valerian died in 91 B.C. His successors consolidated the gains into a nation-state: Magnus Valerius, or Greater Valeria. King William The Great (921 AD - 1002 AD) defeated Baden in a brutal war and took parts of Sylvana. Eventually, the kings after William conquered the smaller kingdoms one by one until 1349, when George I proclaimed himself Emperor of all Valerians. Magnus Valerius was united. Today, a massive industrial boon caused by the country's hard-working populace and resource rich territories have made the Paradigm of the Reign of Alexander I a most prosperous one. Even though the technology of the country is quite backwards (as it is in the Victorian Era), the empire is establishing itself as a major player in realpolitik.

Thanks. :D

It was quite some work cranking out he figures for the entry. I've also got to make some maps, visuals of currency and certain cities (or close maps of city metropolitan areas), get the profiles and images for major figures and characters done, and complete the tank design for the Foxworths. Then, after that, I'll have to go webspace hunting.

Emperor Alexander I
Emperor of All Valerians

Full Name: Alexander John Vassilakos
Age: 53
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 214 lbs.
Birthplace: Nizhniy Petrograd, Aigagros (a part of Valeria)
Blood Type: O
Psychological Analysis: Megalomaniac and paranoid
Family: Father, Mother and siblings: Deceased from disease. Wife: Theodora, killed in missile attack. Sons: Alexander; youngest son killed in missile attack. Daughters: Karen; two daughters killed in missile attack.

Biography:
Alexander is the first emperor of the bloodline, Vassilakos. After the previous emperor, Emperor Maejis I, died without an heir, Alexander Vassilakos, who was once the experienced ruler of the Principality of Aigagros before it was absorbed into the empire, was voted into power unanimously at age 42.

However, after a few years those whom elected him to power began to hate Alexander. The barons, who placed him on the throne, hated Alexander's libertarian ideas and ecological practices. One fateful day, the barons closed down the Palsgrave Council and declared independence from Alexander's regime in the city of Orissa. A pretender to the throne, Emperor Felix Moustaka, was crowned. The colonies of The Crown Empire seceeded and joined on the year-long civil war. However, Alexander's cunning and generalship defeated the barons. Alexander also got tangled in a mess with TROUSRS and GDODAD, but escaped unscathed with the use of diplomatic common sense.

Then, the reaction against the rebels resulted in the deaths of 10 Million people - the entire population of Orissa. Alexander became darker with the increasing diplomatic pressures on him, and now, he plans to revoke voting, limit freedoms, and find information about GDODAD... Truly Alexander has gone somewhat psychotic.

Alexander is a towering figure at 6'4", weighing 212 pounds and is physically strong as he was in his youth at age 50. His brown hair may be receding a bit, but he doesn't seem to notice. One of his favorite things in the NS world is vodka - lots of vodka. After vodka comes his family and the children of the nation - he is very compassionate to the young, new generation and wishes to keep the morality police off his lawn to protect lives from their needless interventionistic policies.

http://www.angelfire.com/empire2/empvalens/Bastilus.PNG
Archduke Bastilus D'Souivons
Archduke of The Crown Empire and Director of Diplomacy

Full Name: Bastilus Charles D'Souivons
Age: 57
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 174 lbs.
Birthplace: Port St. Charles
Blood Type: B
Psychological Analysis: Blabbermouth and a womanizer
Family: Parents and 2 brothers deceased. Wife: Rhea. Sons: Bastilus, Patrick, Vincent.

Biography:
Bastilus was a reserved politician. Even though he is powerful, he often lacks resolve to put his opinion on everything and forcefully coming up with other ideas. This is due to his past, in part. When he was a shopkeep in his small hometown of Port St. Charles, his scandalous bumblings within a local brothel reached headlines in the province. Since then, he is the father of 3 legitimate boys with his wife, Rhea, and the father of countless other children from seedy encounters with the ladies of the night in various Red Light Districts.

Since he doesn't want to dig up more scandal with his... extended family, he tends not to want to make headlines.

Yet, after the Civil War, Bastilus was promoted to Archduke, and now has become much more firm on his stances and, in general, a much better politician and leader. He replaced the old Baronial Council with the New Order Council, which consisted of himself, Field Marshal Giuseppe Venizeli, and The Emperor.

The 57 year old archduke stands at a decent 5'8", the national average height. Bastilus is a little overweight at 174 pounds. His plantinum blonde hair is on the retreat, but an upturned moustace and beard takes attention away from his lacking hair line. He enjoys a cool gin and tonic with his stroganoff, and lives with his wife and sons in the Imperial Palace with Alexander and his family, and Gen. Venizelli and his family.

Introduction

Background

In Spring 1411, Emperor George III sent an expedition of geologists, cartographers and explorers to discover what lied in the very mountainous region northeast of the empire. Led by excitable adventurer Ioanno Grindidorff, they soon made an evaluation of this region in the Summer of 1411. What these explorers found was a land rich in mineral resources and timber - and thus, in Winter 1411, they founded the first settlement of what is to be known as The Valerian Mines at Ioannople.

The settlement flourished, and the news of rich resources brought settlers flocking to the region in order to make money - many immigrants of Cuban descent came to eke out their fortunes. Eventually, rich landowners introduced slaves into the mix, bringing them from distant lands to suffer in the gold and iron mines. The country became a melting pot of the Valerians and the Cuban immigrants, with 1/2 of all marriages in the colony as interracial marriages. Large families were sired by all immigrants, nonetheless, filling the mountains and vallies of the rugged region with settlements.

The pretty calm history of the colony came to an end in 1974, when Generalissimo Wilhelm von Edindorff issued a coup against the government. Battles took place between the different factions, but Wilhelm came out on top. Even though he had issued a coup, he remained dearly loyal to the emperor. After Wilhelm's death six IC years ago, the new governor, Wilhelm II, was disloyal to the crown. He joined the side of the Orissans, but when the rebellion crumbled, he surrendered. Alexander granted him and his nation amnesty, allowing them back into the Crown Empire.

The Valerian Mines today is a massive melting pot between the Valerians and the Cuban migrants. The economy is flourishing - but slaves are still legal under law.

"The Grand Ancient Capital"

Valerius Prime

On 152 BC, St. Valerian founded a new city to be his capital of "Valeria" - Valerius Prime. Founded a little ways west of Vedus, the small town surrounded by fertile farmlands soon blossomed into a major city, and it was a magnificent trade center. It consumed nearby cities into its municipal vicinity, including the old capital at Vedus.

Today, smokestacks rise above the skyline in Valerius Prime. Trains bring in shipments of coal from the north near Baden and iron from the east near Boyaragrad. These two materials fuel the largest industry that is apparent in the city: the steel industry. Iron works across the city smelt the ore into useable iron, and then the steel foundries merge the iron with carbon and process it to form steel. Other than steel, a booming textile industry manufactures clothes worn all over the region of Kortania. Electronics and paper production have also risen in the city's industry. Valerius Prime is not only an industrial center, but a cultural one as well. All nationalities from Valeria may be found here: Jews, Austrians, French, Greeks, Italians, and Valerians (Greeks and Italians are also considered Valerians).

The city rests on the northern bank of the Vedus River. A grand stone bridge with roads and lamps for vehicles leads from the south bank and into the city on the north. The first sight for any traveler from the south would be Emperor George's Park, a large green of large trees that is larger than Central Park in New York. On the other end of the park rises the Imperial Palace. The four-story building may not be the tallest in the city, but it is certainly the most beautiful. Its white and grey marble walls glimmer in the sunlight. The copper green shingles are elegantly laid out, making a flowing pattern along the roof. Pillars hold out verandas at certain points, and the palace is surrounding by walls, gardens, and a private lake. In the heart of Valerius Prime lies City Hall, and the Court Hall of Justice.
