South Dalania Opens Dialogue With Dra-pol

11-01-2004, 02:14
The main chamber of the Legislative House was crowded with the representatives of each province in South Dalania. Well-to-do diplomats and officers crowded the Visitors Gallery, eager to catch glimpses of the proceedings that would come to pass here.

The assembled South Dalanians stood, clapping politely as Prime Minister Edmund Choi stepped from the wings of the main chamber, moving to stand behind a wooden podium emblazoned with the seal of South Dalania.

"South Dalanians, a great day is dawning upon us! A new day of openness, a new day of diplomacy and reconciliation is at hand. But it is not within out great nation that these changes will take place. Rather, these new advancements will take place between our great country and our brothers to the north...the nation of Dra-pol!"

Murmered whispers came from the assembled politicians as well as the visitors gallery, but they quieted down as the prime minister began to speak again.

"We have learned the pain of civil war, we remember it vividly in our minds! The conflict of 1950-1953 was a great tragedy...dividing a nation and separating our families. And today, we are opening a new chapter of openness with our brothers to the north. A new chapter where we might finally begin to face the horrors of the war that took so many of our lives."

The prime minister paused to drink from a glass of water, then continued.

"Today I pledge this country to a stance of open negotiation with Dra-pol. Not just the simple dialogue taking place at Panmunjom, but a nationwide exchange! No longer shall Dra-pol be condemned in the eyes of our citizens. One people, one lifeblood!" shouted the prime minister as he halted for a second, then continued.

"I furthermore pledge myself to be the first ambassador to Dra-pol. As we speak, negotiations are underway to allow me to be the first prime minister to visit Dra-pol in our nation's history."

The chamber exploded with the sound of shouting as ministers either supported the prime minister's statements or bellowed their strong disapproval. The prime minister only smiled and turned away, walking out of the audience chamber as the uproar continued behind him.

"Great speech sir," smiled the prime minister's national security advisor. "It went well as planned?"

"Even better Han," smiled the dynamic young world leader as he walked past. "It went great."

The national security advisor politely msiled until the prime minister had passed, then let his head fall into his hands.

"What has he committed us to..." muttered the older man as he walked off, listening to the shouting continue.

OOC:
For those of you who don't know Dra-pol is RPing North Korea and I'm RPing South Korea. These developments are akin to say reunification between the two Koreas in real life...a fairly big development. Neither Dra-pol nor I are at the concept of reunification, but I hope these developments will be promising.
