With the Armada and Military's temporary budget hike coming to an end next year, the Military is restructuring by cutting its soldier employment from ten million to five million troops. This is still five times bigger than its pre-budget-increase one million, and is expected to be a more than adequate number. Thanks to the decade-long funding increase now coming to an end, the Military has been able to greatly modernize, and has replaced all of its old artillery, personnel equipment, and armored units with much newer models able to better contend with modern ground warfare. The Armada is still running strong with its recent hike in ship production and construction of new shipyards; so the Xanthalian defensive/offensive machine is better than ever.
Not a moment too soon, since the Socialist Republic is on the eve of war. With the Armada massing its ships and the Military gathering its forces onto transports for the impending Xanthalian invasion of Tordor, this boost in Armada and Military effectiveness and power may be the key to victory for those marching off to war for Xanthal. Only time will tell.

Won't that reduce their combat capability?

Unless, of course, you have some new weapon for attacking people's kneecaps.

Letila: Everything in your nation is based on anarchy. I don't need another one of your "anarchy is great" preaching sessions.

With that many soldiers being "laid off", what are your plans for dealing with the sudden influx of able bodied workers? In a realistic senario, these soldiers would be hard pressed to get employment, seeing as how the job market was already doing fine before they flooded it. Which means there would normally be more supply then demand.....as in badness.

Off topic, whatever happened to that "come see Xanthal" tourism thread? I can't seem to find it.

They won't all be let go at once, you know. About two or three million of them will be given jobs in the Armada, on the new ships and starbases being built. The rest will be employed in various other fields, depending on their individual preferences and where employees are needed.

What slaves? We don't force anybody to serve in the army. And it's not like they don't get paid...

Then how is it compulsory?

Ten million? Why on earth would you need that in the first place x_x

Even 5 million is excessive, but I suppose they can't be all combat troops.

Chimaea: They are all combat troops. There are others who do administration. And five million is not alot. In fact, it's probably too small if anything. Since we're a space nation they are usually deployed against entire continents or planets of people.

We find that an army of 1 million is more than sufficient.
