"Thank you kindly, but I need to get my rest for a few minutes and freshen up a bit" Lenore said and flashed a smile to the count. "An hour will suffice" Lenore watched the count leave and quickly checked so that the pills were still in place. This meeting would indeed prove interesting, she would make sure of that...She hoped that the young Empress would appreciate her "Gift"

She prepared thouroughly, she knew that she needed to be focused. This was the first visit from a Veganian envoy to a SATO nation ever and Jaar had expressed his outmost confidence in her skills to succeed in her mission. One hour seemed to be such a short time. The gift to the young empress would be what SATO feared the most. She felt a calm coming over her, knowing it would be allright.

Lenore patiently sat on her chair, he hands folded, she knew it had gone more than an hour now, but she was ready. She closed her eyes and focused on her surroundings, making the sounds more clear, listen to people walking in the corridor outside.

The Duchess had been informed that formal dress was the order of the day, and that the Empress intended to honour her guest by including her in a ceremony.
When she was led to the Empress, she found herself first in a small hall where a number of dignitaries were waiting. They were wearing not merely formal but rather antique dress; nineteenth century tunics, swords and orders and decorations or full gowns. She recognized the Archduke Carl and Archduke Amadeus and the Archbishop of Zwoll among them.
In an adjacent room, the Empress was in the midst of being dressed--that is to say, draped in formal robes of leopardskin and silk, and fetched Lenore a ravishing smile. There are only two servants present, who are waved away for the moment, and a leopard, sitting nearby, which turns its yellow gaze on Lenore.
"Duchess, I am very glad to be meeting with someone as close to the Benvolent Jaar as you are." she appears startlingly young, and yet is on the verge of womanhood. Her gaze is intelligent and she has an air of distinct authority that seems to come from herself, not merely from her office. "What news is there from Vegana?"

Lenore mad a court bow as her eyes flowed over the people in the room, she stopped for a second at the leopard , smiled and nodded to herself and then looked back at Aurora. "Your highness, it's an honour. In The wonderful nation of Vegana all is well. The spring is coming, and the sidensvans singer herolds its coming accompagnied by the spring flood. The Benevolent Jaar asked my to come here since he is very curious about the new ruler of Lavenrunz. Our two nations have never had any peaceful diplomatic contacts earlier and our beloved leader felt that perhaps the time has come to open up the road to a more prosperous future, for both our nations. The benevolent Jaar thinks it is time to straighten things out, to perhaps try to show a new leader the true face of the Reich, so many people are saying so much about our nation and yet know so little" Lenore watched Aurora intently. "First we are asking your permission to start an embassy in your nation. Secondly I bring a gift from the benevolent Jaar"

Lenore smiled at Aurora " The benevolent Jaar told me to give you the greatest gift one can expect of a friend, your Highness. He knows that the situation around you has become somewhat chaotic and in such situation one needs someone to trust. The benevolent Jaar has as a show of trust invested in me to answer any three questions of yours with complete truth. Thus perhaps making your journey easier, because those three questions I am under oath to answer, and truthfully. Jaar hopes that this will prove his good will and eagerness to help the new ruler to come out of this situation as safely as possible. He rest assured that this gift has not been given anyone in our history and asks you to choose the questions wisely."

Aurora looks fascinated, and glances at the leopard for a moment. Then she says slowly, "I won't ask anything for now. But I thank the Benevolent Jaar for his gift, which is truly unique." she flashes Lenore a smile. "And now, I will ask one thing of you that is not in that category, for you to accompany me for my first grand audience. Let it be known that Lavenrunz is interested in the friendship of Vegana."
With that, she goes out, nodding for Lenore to follow her. The others outside in the hall all bow, and in procession move into the throne room, which is a grand hall where members of the Volksraad, of the aristocracy and the Church and other apparatus of state are gathered.
From there, the people are broadcast this prayer on the part of the Archbishop.
"O Lord God Almighty, who rulest the nations of the Earth, we pray thee, our Country and its peoples. Safeguard the liberties which our ancestors won by Sacrifice, and give to all the people a sober vigilant mind lest through any impiety or neglect we forfeit this freedom.
Bless, we beseech thee, our Sovereign ruler Empress Aurora, our Gracious Monarch and all the Imperial House. Grant unto them wisdom to plan and strength to perform such things as shall be to the honour of thy name, who art the King of Kings. To all who are set in authority over us, grant, we pray thee, insight and faithfulness. May wisdom, honour, truth be the foundation of our life and our deepest trust be in thee, the Lord of all Nations. Amen."

The choir sang angelically, deep voices and higher rising up to the cloud painted ceiling of the Cathedral. The anthem "exspectabat omnis plebs" was begun.
Two priests came up to the altar bearing the regalia they had received from the courtiers who had brought them in. The Archbishop raised his hands in blessing, saying,
"For inasmuch as you are a priestly ruler, after the order of Melchisedek, I charge you, what must be the observations of your rule of Lavenrunz?"
When Aurora had been crowned, given the sword and the globe, she swore, in response to formal questions: "That I will preserve peace for the Church and all Christian people, prevent injustice, and maintain right. And that I will be the rightful and just ruler of Lavenrunz."
With that, the archbishop knelt, and all the congregation, hailing "God save the Empress!" as the choir joyfully sang, "Unxerunt Salomonem Sadoc" (Zadok the Priest).

Setsuna, the ambassador, was present at the coronation. She stood out slightly, not just because of her species, but also because of her dress; she, too, was wearing the traditional 19th-century garb of her country, but in her case it was not a full gown but an elaborately layered robe. The panoply of complementary colors seemed out of place on the ambassador, who normally favored businesslike suits.

Raven, on the other hand, was wearing a Lavenrunzian gown, and probably would have felt quite uncomfortable in the unaccustomed garment if she hadn't been so pleased to see her sister participating in the ceremony. She stood quietly near the Archdukes, and wholeheartedly joined in the response after Aurora had sworn her oath.

Viole stands in the back. She is dressed simply in white, a sword belt, minus swords, cinches her tunic tight about her waist. She seems distracted, watching the ceremony through eyes that lack their customary glitter despite the smile on her lips.

She doesn't speak, though her lips occasionally form words that are clearly not english, settling into a narrow line before twitching again to a smile.
Der Angst
12-01-2004, 12:25
The Angstian ambassador in Lavenrunz, Londo Mollari, stands in line with the other foreign guests, his black, military uniform sort of strange, considering his... well, boldness. Not exactly a trained man, one would say, just seeing him... Well, the times when he was still a young man, strong and admired, were long gone...

Still, being ambassador in Lavenrunz is far from being the worst job in the world, even for a militant atheist like him. He looks at Viole, wondering how such a young... girl can achive such a position... But then, her age and inexperience may explain why her nation has the worst economy worldwide...

His 'God save the empress' sounds considerably honest... he may not believe in god, but he most definitely prefers the empress to any other possible ruler in Lavenrunz... So it´s just in his interest to wish her luck.
The Territory
12-01-2004, 17:00
Edward Cornell is near the front, attentive. Not quite ramrod-straight, but exposure to the SATO command structure and a whole lot of Lavenrunzians has put the ramrod at least partly back in his spine.

Too bad, really. It was relaxed Territorial grace that made him exotic rather than just brutally handsome and athletically built. The simple lines of Territorial khakis accent his build. Maybe that stands out a bit - there are no decorations and insignia so discreet they're barely there.

He's not the only one looking out his eyes.

Lenore watched the other participants as she tried to stay close to Aurora. This had been quite a surprise, she had thought herself overdressed when she had come wearing her glittery black dress with green silk top with the black flowing around her. She even had put away her long gloves but it actually seemed appropriate to wear them now. Damn, where did all these people come from? She was aware that most people around her were enemies and she felt a bit unprotected. She felt the dissapproving looks they gave her and stood straight and met every gaze with a level regal stare.

Quinten de Clercq, the Knootian Ambassador to Lavenrunz, was also present at the coronation. The old man, from a family of former aristocrats, is dressed in handsome black that hides his upcoming belly well.

As the group prays, he bows his head and closes his eyes. But his thoughts are not with God but with Lavenrunz itself. Continuously the thoughts have haunted his mind and the displays of Lavenrunzian nationalism only make it stronger. Is Aurora in control?, he wonders. Either she is brilliant, or she is terribly naïve. His eyes follow the young Empress and he peeks at her as she prays devoutly.

With true enthusiasm he shout’s his ”God save the Empress!”
She’ll need it.

Lenore only receives a cold stare. But it is not outright hatred that meets her, just a diplomatic wall of silence.

It's been a long time, Hofburg

Kenneth Tung, the Aerigian Ambassador to Lavenrunz, stood tall and attentive in the middle as the choir sung their holy tune. As an Asian, He stood out in the crowd representing the multicultural Heartland nation.

Dressed smartly in his stylish suit, he glanced at the standing guards in vigil and the young Empress. Will she be as a strong, yet benevolent leader like her mother? Will she guide the Empire, one of The Federal Republic's old allies, back to her feet again?

As the group began to pray, he closed his eyes and thought. Aurora has rather big shoes to fill at such a young age, Empress Joanna was the leader of the SATO alliance and a most famous figure worldwide because of her wisdom and strength in her guidance of the Lavenrunzian nation.

It is with energy that he shouts his "God Save the Empress!" He was looking to a new stage in the partnership between Aerigia, SATO, The Heartland and Lavenrunz.

Aurora was secretly amused by Lenore's discomfort, but was also interested in the reactions of others. No one made any open comment, though she nearly laughed at the old Knootian's glare in Lenore's direction.
The ceremony went on and on--there were moments of earnest prayer, others she knew were well constructed flummery.
But at last she was acclaimed empress--no now one in Lavenrunz could dare to openly puppetize her.
And now she had to be doubly wary.
Taking Lenore aside as the procession began to leave, she said, "Well, Duchess, did you enjoy this ceremony?"

Lenore looked straight into Auroras eyes. "It was a beautiful ceremony, your majesty, and it further cements you right to the throne, thus making it harder for so called "regents" to try to rule over your head. I especially enjoyed the choir in "exspectabat omnis plebs". I am merely worried about so many people still not trusting your judgement and still not recognising your supreme rule. Half the people in there would have had me assassinated for just talking with you, and that's just because I come from a different nation, and a nation that haven't waged war with any of them, and they call The Reich prejudical." Lenore shook her head, and then smiled at Aurora and made a court bow "No more of that. Let me the first to Congratulate you Your Majesty! Long live the Empress of Lavenrunz"

The Foreign Minister, a willowy woman in formal robes, bowed politely.
The Empress looked at the note and said, "My my, Chimaea does not like that I have you here either." she smiled at Lenore. Lenore could see however that the Empress was enraged, then coldly amused. "Well, let them take me for a fool for now."
Tenderness came over her as Thirty Camelias, who had been lurking in the shadows of the Cathedral, prowled to her and rubbed her spotted head against her leg.
"You will be guest of honour at my banquet tonight." Aurora said to Lenore. "Let them think what they will. Until then--" she nodded to Lenore and moved away.

To Sir Reginald Styles

The Empress is very displeased with the poor manners of your Ambassador, who refused to attend Her coronation because of the presence of the Ambassador from Vegana.
Regardless of the policies you set, it is outrageous to ask friendship of us on the one hand and deny us self determination on the other. Should you wish, sir, to demonstrate that we would be better off aligning with the Reich you could scarcely have found a better way to do it.
This is not our intention; the entertainment of the Ambassador from Vegana is entirely to find a peaceful solution. You have, to be blunt, insulted the Empire and the Empress, and we would like a public apology for the Ambassador's failure to attend this most important of events.

Please excuse the late arrival of this letter of congratulations as well as my absense at the coronation, as I am still trying to recover from the helicopter accident I had one week ago. Nonetheless, it is comforting to see that your esteemed nation has returned to stability. The Aerigian ambassador to Lavenrunz, Mr. Kenneth Tung, will be attending the coronation in place of me. (Doctor has not cleared me for travel yet.)

I would like to offer my congratulations to your coronation. Lavenrunz and Aerigia has been great allies in the past. It is unfortunate that troubles in our region has drawn us away and we would like to reaffirm the friendship between our nations and offer our assistance should any need arise.

To conclude, I wish you great success and good fortunes in the future. May your nation be lead with great wisdom, honor and courage and be blessed with peace and prosperity.

"True, The Reich is an alliance, but not only an alliance, it is also a region and thus nation dies and lives on and new nations enter. You have to think of it as an organic organisation, that grows and renews itself. Then we have Akilliam and Reichkamphen, two truly great nations, that left the Reich for entirely different reasons. The once so great Cominus, ruler of Akilliam, went psycotich and thus sent his whole nation into the abyss. When his nation somehow returned he was changed and suddenly became a pawn of Menelmacar, his ancient arch enemy. We cannot explain what happened to Akilliam and we are all shocked of how he turned from us to his foes. We believe his insanity resulted into his nations downfall and his turn to the evil." Lenore looked sad as she spoke of the nation of Akilliam. "Reichkamphen left The Reich because he felt the fight against communism wasn't followed hard enough in The Reich. But we still have strong ties with Reichkamphen and our mutual goal is still the same" Lenore smiled at Aurora "The trend right now is that we have a massive increase in the number of nations of the Reich. Our reputation has drawn several younger nations to our region."

I wonder how Lavenrunz people would react if they went out to protest against an embassy and got thrown in their faces that the late empress was a devil and that their faith wasn't worth anything. You have to understand that the people of St. Dominic is a religious people, they don't want to have their religion dragged in the dirt. Even if the spark was there before the Syskeyians poured gasoline on it. I believe it to be a wonder that the Iesus soldiers stopped the men and women in St. Dominic from killing them all. Especially after the Syskeyians started shooting at them. Sometimes people do strange things in the name of their god and their nation as I am sure you are aware of here in Lavenrunz."

To: Emperor Aurora, Lavenrunz
From: The Office of the Prime Minister, Chimaea

Dear Empress,

It's with considerable dismay I note the behaviour and actions of the Chimaean Ambassador to Lavenrunz. He will be properly disciplined.

I regret not being able to attend your coronation; however, when an ally invites a representative of a Reich nation that we are on the brink of war with, a nation who had committed a severe breach of diplomacy as well as actions which violate UN resolutions, a nation to which the Governor's policy of humanitarian ideals does not match, then it can only be seen as a studied insult.

That aside, I wish you a long and prosperous reign as the Empress of Lavenrunz. Chimaea has always been close and allied to the noble imperial line of your nation and we will continue to be this way.

Warmest regards and best wishes,
Phillip Achefield,
Prime Minister of Chimaea

The Foreign Minister listens to this diatribe with amusement--not for a moment is she taken in entirely by it. The Reich had shown itself capable of contortions in viewpoint that would make an Idiastani acrobat turn pale. Nodding gravely, she says, "I do understand your feelings. However, the fact remains that there are accusations tht Iesus Christi's troops did little to prevent the situation getting out of hand, and also there is the matter of the trial. Apparently there have been shootings, wild accusations and and a chaotic handling of the trial itself. There are some important Lavenrunzians who see the Reich as, frankly, unstable. The Empress is determined to find a way to peace, but it seems next to impossible at times."

"I understand that, but let me point out that the Reich is by far the safest Region in the whole world as UN statistics can prove to you. Our trials are no different than when Sentient people condemns people to public flogging and then hangings. How come you can oversee such things? Or when Menelmacar destroys a whole city for the lives of a few elves? My father was killed in Zhikav, and noone rose up and screamed about it being an abomination to international law." Lenore had tears in her eyes when she remembered the death of her father. "I would say that if you take Vegana as an example we haven't had a civil war in more than 50,000 years.Compared to some other nations that has close ties to Lenrun the Reich is a Wonder of stability."

Slowly the Foreign Minister crosses herself. "God rest your father's soul." she says. "But you are not really answering my questions. Perhaps we should take this in another direction: what is the Reich prepared to do in order to have peace? For, forgive me, this all sounds like the usual justifications and evasions. The Treaty of Lyle is a joke, and 'safe' I imagine refers to the fact that the UN relies on crime statistics."

Lenore looked at Aurora, tears still in her eyes. "Thank you. Coming to real peace is about meetings between people. Peace is something that has to be worked hard to gain. The Reich has taken the first step by granting the Empress a unique gift. The Reich already feels at peace with the Lavenrunz people, we haven't invaded or even tried to invade during this very unstable situation, au contraire, we tried to establish stability and to ward of the aggressors. At the time Iesus Christi even has a fleet guarding Lavenrunz. The Reich is not only safe because we have the lowest crime rates, we also hasn't had any civil wars in a long time. I agree that the treaties aren't worth much today, but we honoured it nevertheless. We are prepared to take the first step, I would like to ask the same question of you. What is Lavenrunz prepared to do in order to have peace?"
Lavenrunz
15-01-2004, 18:12
"Lavenrunz, for a start, is prepared to insist upon a mediated solution to the aggression on the part of Chimaea--a nation we consider friendly but highly militant. And I do mean insist." the Foreign Minister looks thoughtful. "Having a very young person as ruler--is interesting. Because Her Majesty has, to be perfectly blunt, much intelligence and strength and courage but still a child's open mind and heart. We, the government, have the experience. It is a curious balance, and she insists on this idea: that the Reich does not want war with us and has in fact gone out of its way to avoid it. And yet the Reich is not a region of cowards. The only solution to the tension therefore is to find grounds for peace."
Vegana

Lenore looked at Aurora with a new interest. "My dear Minister, your empress has awoken the interest of The benevolent Jaar, and that is a good sign in itself of his belief in her. The Reich doesn't want war with Chimaea, a war is always a tragedy, but we believe that if they play with fire they will be burnt. In the case of Chimaea, it is an attack on The Reich, not the other way around, and just as any sovereign nation we don't accept having our politics dictated for us, as I am sure you understand. The trials in St. Dominic became somewhat chaotic and I think that they became chaotic largely because the lawyers, not diplomats, didn't have sufficient knowledge of Reich culture. But it is never ones fault when two quarrel, I hope we will reach some kind of agreement and thus stopping innocent blood to flow. If Lavenrunz wants to help us reach common grounds of peace I am sure the Benevolent Jaar will listen. He doesn't want his children killed more than anyone would want to. But alas It would seem as if Chimaea is looking for war not peace and I am afraid it will be hard to keep them from finding it.

((OOC: *watches Lavenrunzian foreign minister speak publicly of division between allies*
Bad Thing.
@Jo: anyway, if the Benevolent Jaar is in such a nice mood, could the Minister please inquire ICly why the special Knootian ambassador to the Reich (Ambassador Herben) is being held in an Iesus prison for absolutely no reason? I note at that that Herben is a devout reborn Christian. You know him from the funeral RP. His release would do much to make their words of peace believable. I’m sure you know ICly of this event and the Knootian government would be much obliged if you were to mention it while the Reich is in such a generous mood. *informs ICly beforehand using fluidic time*))

"It is hardly a simple matter." replies the Foreign Minister. "To start with: you and your allies issued threats to government officials. Secondly, you are holding in custody a number of persons who are from governments friendly to Lavenrunz. The Empire desires to discuss peace, but we will not see the Reich avoid responsibility for their own actions. If you want peace, then are you willing to make certain small sacrifices in order to get it?"

Lenore looked perplexed "Government officials? The only government officials we are threatening are the criminals that caused the deaths of thousands of civilians outside their embassy. We also recieved evidence from a neutral party, "espresso to go", that they used their diplomatic immunity to smuggle drugs. We would have been happy to deliver them to their own juridical system if we had trusted that they wouldn't be let free as heroes, much as the drugsmuggler in your friendly state Knootoss were let free after their government had pleaded for the. I might remind you that it is not the first time a SATO nation smuggles drugs into another nation using governmental influence. Our trust in their juridical system aren't exactly high. Concerning the other people that came for the trial, I can't see how lawyer can receive diplomatic immunity, and if they were diplomats they were poorly trained since they angered the whole court." Lenore smiled at Aurora "The law must have its way, and I believe that when all this is over, the Reich will be an even safer place and we will be proved right as so many times before. Considering the Chimaea and walking carpet delegate, we just must look to their best health since they acted in a very strange way. They will probably be delivered to their own nations within a few days to join up with their teams that already has been free to go."

The Foreign Minister nods understandingly. "Well, it is not an easy matter, as you say. Unfortunately. May I ask what point of view the Reich shares with regard to other treaties such as the Non-Democratic Alliance, the Draconian Imperium and the Triumvirate of Yut?"
Their car has arrived at the Autumn Palace again, and goes through the gates as soldiers salute stiffly.

Lenore looked at Aurora "Quite so, if it were an easy matter none of the horrible would ever have occured." Lenore Sighed "Ah well, with some luck it will all be solved peacefully. As for the other alliances, we have good relations with The NDA, since there are Reich members in that alliance. The draconians and ToY is another matter since it would seem that they have taken a rather isolationist view. I would say we have little to do with either of those alliances. What are your opinons of those alliances?"

"My views are not really just my own." explains von Konigsmark. "They are really those of Her Majesty, which can be summed up as: if we cannot try to get along, we should leave one another alone. Of course, it is also understood that sometimes this is impossible. Lavenrunz is part of the Drakonian Imperium, but mostly in order to maintain some kind of status quo in certain volatile areas of the world, you understand. We were involved in the East Turketan affair and feel a sense of responsibility."
At the doors, they were met by a strikingly handsome man with a penetrating gaze, wearing a barracks style uniform.
Bowing, Aurora von Konigsmark said, "Your Highness--may I present the Duchess Lenore D'Elomie? Your Grace, Archduke Amadeus von Sachshausen, Her Majesty's second cousin."

((OOC: just for the record here, the Knootian was NOT involved in drugsmuggling. Just so Jo OOCly knows that Vegana is lying here. Besides, the ambassador is a Puritan, he would never do that.

Please do carry on... it's an interesting conversation.))

Lenore looked around. Where did that evil whining mumbling voice come from? She shrugged it away and smiled towards the archduke.

"Archduke Amadeus, I'm honoured," She curtseyed, and looked with amused curiousity at the handsome archduke. She took his arm and continued "It seems as if I've been dumped on you since the foreign minister has other pressing business. Please tell me about the history of your glorious nation." Lenore smiled at Aurora and then flashed a perfect smile at the Archduke.

OOC: Knoot, if you have questions for me or something you know what my nation's name is. If once more I find you making sly asides about what you think I should be doing I will lose my temper.
IC:

Archduke Amadeus laughed. "The whole history? That would be some time in the telling, dear lady. I would be happy to send you some excellent books or discs on the subject, however. If you are interested, I have an appointment tomorrow at the Imperial Museum of Hofburg and would be delighted to meet you afterward to give you a tour."
