Opening of Relations with Arda

Tir Eselyn -- The Ministry of Diplomacy today made public plans to open relations with Arda, including the construction of an embassy within Arda's chief state, Melkor Unchained. During a brief press conference, Chief Diplomat Alaric Morgannan said, "The position of the Confederacy of Ravenspire is to pursue diplomatic means toward ending any potential conflicts. As such, we see the exchange of ambassadors with Melkor Unchained as a positive step for the future."

Asked about Melkor's recent actions on Mars, Morgannan answered, "We found Melkor Unchained to be open to negotiations over the matter. In fact, they exercised a level of restraint that gives the lie to the usual rumors. From a purely pragmatic standpoint, I believe we can do business with Melkor Unchained."

The appointment of ambassador was given to Alexander Caine, a former military officer from Ravenspire CI/CT.

The sleek quicksilver curves of the diplomatic skimmer glinted blue from the reflected sea below. The small craft held only a handful of diplomatic staff, plus a pilot and copilot; among them was Caine. A heavyset, greying man, he still retained his physique from his years of service. The patch covering one eye socket, and the scar running from forehead beneath patch to cheek, bespoke his reason for retirement. He could have gotten a replacement; perhaps even one superior to his natural vision. But he chose not to; he bore his scars with pride.

They were nearing Arda now, and he directed the copilot to establish contact with Melkor Unchained. "Make sure they know we're on the way, and bloody well follow the instructions," he ordered.

OOC: related posting. Anyhoo... we'll wait and see if this works out. If it does, we might follow.

"Lavenrunz, neutral?"

The Director frowned as he glanced over the thick report that had been made on recent happenings in Lavenrunz. He flipped over to conclusions and predictions. It concluded that the current solution was a "Bad Thing" for the DDR in the medium and long term.

"... structural changes in favours may yield an increased chance of the installation of regimes which can be classified as the class of 'potentially hostile allies' along with nations such as Der Angst ...", it eloquently read.

"... visits and diplomatic efforts from the Reich, while probably not succesful in the short term..."

The Reich. Damn. This whole affair is playing Matty right into his hands. If they get 'ties' with Lavenrunz then everyone can. And what of Arda?

The mind of the Director was spinning with potential scenario's. The deeper trend became visible here: dealing with the devil was becoming an accepted pratice. "... today Ravenspire opened an embassy in Arda too. Heck, if that works out then we can get away with it. But should we want to?", he pondered.

The Director got out his text processor to authorise an increase of intelligence assets in the Teutonic Empire.

"After all, good friends look out for eachother..."

A squadron of fighters whizzed through the darkening sky towards teh Ravenspire craft. some distance away, the three peaks of Thangorodrim could be seen yet in the north, ever belching thick black clouds from its summit. The majority of the surrounding landscape was covered by these clouds, and could not be seen from the ground. Further south, it was a little better, but the scenery was still depressing enough to make a hippie want to kill himself. Hell, it'd make almost anyone want to kill themselves. Massive, gnarled treeses, long dead, stood in the midst of the rocky plains, and mountains always loomed in the distance, as a barrier for some unseen stronghold.

The Raven foghtercraft slid into an escort formation around the incoming craft. After a few seconds, the squadron leader hailed his ward: "This is Dragon One. We've been ordered to escort you to Ali'Staan, where you're to land and be shown to your embassy. Follow our formation into Dor Daedoloth and do not deviate. If your ship has weapons, I suggest you deactivate them. If our defense grid senses active weapon systems on a foreign craft, it will open fireand you will all be destroyed. Estimated time till touchdown: 2 hours, and 35 minutes."

[ooc: if youre just now entering Arda airspace, Ali'staan is still some distance away, to the northeast.]

"Acknowledged. This craft is unarmed," the copilot responded, as the pilot guided the vehicle into formation.

"Two and a half hours, eh?" He asked after the channel had been closed. "Wonder whether that's anything like down there."

Caine chuckled. "If it's in the mountains, it'll be almost like home."

"Can't say much for the weather, though."

"Do you think I'm concerned with the weather? Perhaps you think this is a vacation, eh?"

"Uh, no, sir. Just making conversation."

Caine sighed. "If you'd ever like to make it to pilot, you'll learn when to refrain. Honestly. Are they just accepting any candidate who comes in the door these days?"

The copilot bit his tongue.

"Good. You're learning."

Beneath them, the desolate plains of the Ardan coast rushed past.
