City under construction (Possible future RP, pics)
OOC: Offshoot of my exploration (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2535702&highlight=#2535702) thread.
IC: Several years had passed since the PES group left the Sol system, and found a new planet worth developing. In that time, construction crews had begun building a small city for the impending colonists. The base infrastructure was ready; power from wind generators and solar collectors was ample. Mining facilities were made and manned to extrude raw materials from the mountainous regions.
http://home.earthlink.net/~peterpank/swampscene.JPG
In origin, the architects were going to build these cities in the massive trees that grew in abundance on the now-named planet of Sslaa 5, 9.6 light years from Sol. These ideas were abandoned when one architect posed the question "Trees grow and die, right? What happens then?"
A suitable replacement was found, however, in the construction of artificial structures that would also act as main support pillars for arboreal cities. Made of refined resin infused with carbon steel, these structures were quite able to stand for the fore-seeable millenia.
http://home.earthlink.net/~peterpank/swampcityday.JPG
Platforms were raised and secured, power conduits were lain out and activated, buildings were constructed. Technicians, scouts, engineers and construction crews landed from the PES ships to the surface, as well as several politicians and military personnel, and established themselves.
And now it was time to open trade with their neighbors. Minister Seerak fired up the short-wave transmitter array, as well as the laser-pulse comm array, and broadcast the first message from the new city, dubbed Paalai.
"Greetings to all who receive this message. We seek trade and diplomatic contact with other space-faring civilizations in order to bring about a new era of prosperity for all concerned. Coordinates are included in this message."
http://home.earthlink.net/~peterpank/swampcitynight.JPG
Soon the rush of colonists from Sakkra Proper would leave Earth, and begin an exodus to Sslaa 5. When that happened, the city had better be prepared. Their next step would be to set up orbital defenses and shipyards.

Wow, Sakkra...
You've definitely got some skill with DoGA.
Amazing.
OOC: Thank you, thank you. This is to basically establish diplomatic dealings with nations we haven't been exposed to yet.
Oh, and there'll be detailed forays into the dank, steamy world that is Sslaa 5.
In order to gain a more in-depth knowledge of this world, it has been decided that the Rangers will make an extended foray into the wilds. Mapping equipment and other supplies are being prepared at the first Ranger outpost.
Ranger Twaarl looks over his pack. Hammer, macro-specs, water treatment kit, first aid kit, short-wave radio, datapad, lithium batteries. This is a good start. He slings his bag over his shoulder and looks at the other two Rangers.
"This should be interesting, yes? A new world to roam. And we shall be the first out there." This is what he joined the Rangers for decades ago. To scout the unkown and be the first to see lands with an intelligent eye.
"Should be. Gives one a sense of elation to truly go into the unkown, and see creatures that were once relegated to fantasy and child-hood tales."
In the meantime, city planners have begun the construction of a public transit system consisting of VTOL craft. Monorails, subterranean transit and the like were considered to intrusive into the native areas. The three moons of Sslaa 5 are also slated for development. One will be used as a shipyard, one slated to be an orbital defense base and way-station, and the third will be for the refinement of materials harvested off-planet.
The air smelt heavy that morning. Like after a fresh mulching. The three Rangers left their posts on the First Tier, and took the lift down to ground level. the sounds of native wildlife in the distant air, they inhaled deeply, and began their task.
This was to do a patrol a full 50 kilometers away from the city lines in all directions. As they made their way out, the moisture in the air clung to their skin, forming little droplets everywhere. They tamped their TacSoft armor dry, and applied a coating of oil to maintain suppleness. They then began their mission in earnest; identify new plant and animal strains. Determine toxic levels if any; determine usefulness and edibility; note any landmarks of interest.
LOG ENTRY: 01
Reached 50 kilometer mark after a full day of walking. Berries grow in abundance, but blue ones are to be avoided. Horrible taste. WIll try cooking them, and then drying them. May be a useful spice.
Came upon a small stream wish sparse aquatic life in the form of amphibians of some manner. Legless, but swift.
Herbivorous herd animals are being observed and followed. Currently at rest. Will continue to follow in the morning to note behavior patterns, and also what they ingest.
Tracks show a solitary creature making patrols on ocassion. Animal markings on tree trunks in evidence in the form of a waxy secretion.
Made a small camp using flat stones to keep us a few inches over ground level.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
City development:
Public transport methods being reviewed and planned. Power flow is within reasonable limts with wind and solar generating facilities. Workable barracks and command center in place for military. Landing area for VTOL crafts in use. Landing strip for STOL crafts being discussed and planned.
Development update log:
Shuttle-portis commencing the final phase of construction; the signaling lighs and towers. Shuttle pad is ready for use, and already three shuttles have docked and are unloading and being readied for orbital re-entry.
http://www.5amfunnies.com/sakkra/Sights/VTOLpad.JPG
Passengers are being briefed as to the conditions on Sslaa 5. Construction has begun on an STOL Airfield, which will be 8 meters over ground level to reduce moisture collection from the permeating fog, which seems to supply the flora with moisture primarily.
Constructing vaporators to harvest water from this fog to supply residencies with ample water. Solar collecters have been raised and are running at 90% efficiency at this time.
Ground-breaking on an airfield about 1 km in length is underway. This is intended for larger crafts than drop-ships with STOL capabilities. A shuttle-pad is attached, as well as storage space for five Monitor II class shuttles. This will enable trade to be carried out with greater efficiency.

Greetings from the Republic. It is always a pleasure to meet new friends among the stars. While it appears you have bowed out of the "Nathi-underoo bidding war," it appears you will not be denied the wonders of outer space. Good luck to you.
Perhaps you'd be interested in an open trade agreement between our two nations? It is always good to have many comrades in outer space.

OOC: Thanks, Slagkattunger. To be honest, each pic takes about 45 minutes to an hour tops, depending on 'outside' circumstances.
IC:
To Minister Guilder..
Opening up trade would indeed be a welcome thing. If you like, we could meet either in your space, or in ours, and begin talks to the goal of cementing a trade aggreement.

Construction of a small STOL landing strip is proceeding well. This serves the purpose of giving larger shuttles and STOL aircraft a place to land.
http://www.5amfunnies.com/sakkra/Sights/STOLpad.JPG
Heavy transports loaded with a wing of Monitor IIa Shuttles are enroute. These will serve the purposes of providing air transit, which is quite clean and efficient, for the planetary surface of Sslaa 5, as well as its orbiting bodies.
Wow, Sakkra...nice work
Your city on Sslaa 5 looks so interesting, that I feel like moving a part of my nation there.
Like Minister Guilder, I am proposing a trade contract, and want to contribute to the project by supplying raw materials and other things supplied by my factories.
If I were allowed to move a part of the nation there, where abouts may they stay? (Not that they get in the way...)
Rebulican President of Pinsnik,
Falcon Tasangi
Thank you President Tasangi
To answer your question concerning moving here, it would probably be best to wait until a thorough planetary survey is complete. There are many large and dangerous predators about, and we are building around their territories. We aim to have minimal encroachment on the native life here, regardless of their threat level.
However, a rough planetary map will be available shortly. If you like, you may also send a small research team. The soil and flora here is quite fascinating.
Are you located in the Sol system, or do you have a stellar presence already?
Minister Seerak
I do not yet have a stellar presence yet, but there is a hidden fleet of spaceships with hyperdrive (which is abit dangerous) that is ready to go any second.
A research team is a good idea. I shall also be sending a samurai, a few satellites and a small elite marine force that have been specially trained.
I propose that we should build an underground generator that will be driven from water. I ask you, how many seas have you come across?

Here is the map of Sslaa 5 as it stands. As you can see, the planet is mostly water.
http://home.earthlink.net/~peterpank/sslaamap.gif
All areas marked are as yet un-named until survey teams and Rangers complete their tasks. The red star is the capitol Palaai. Blue stars are areas slated for development. Blue dots are areas that airfields and shuttle-pads will be placed at, if they are not already. Purple dots are established airfields. The different shades are topographic surveys. Each shade represents 350 meters above water level.
We are not permitting zoning rights for underground facilities from foreign parties until we ascertain the impact it would have on the environment. As such, our Solar and Wind farms are providing power fairly nicely.
Now a question. What will be the nature of these satellites of which you mention? being that we have yet to establish true ties, and sign any contracts or pacts aside from a possible trade treaty, we are curious and skeptical as to your motives.

5 heavy transorts have been in orbit around the moon Uztuua, where construction crews have been at work building an orbital refinery and mining station there. Large silicate deposits as well as nickel, tin, aluminum and cadmium are expected to be the main products refined at this location. Other resources from mining stations will be brought here to be extruded.
In one months time NS, it is expected that the refinery will be capable of being active, and ore processing will begin. 10 more heavy transports are enroute to construct other orbital facilities on the other two moons.
Ok, some info on the Satellites:
The Satellites are of the UR-TT Model, meaning that they are on the latest modern stand.
They are equipped with solar panels to keep them going, and have:
- 5 Telescopes, each for a different view of the area
- The Satellites are linked together, so actual Images can be split between satellites, and together 2 satellite images make a complete picture, what is excellent for getting a good view of the planet.
- Probes and small vehicles, if the they have to land on the planet and make probes of the soil.
- Cameras to VIDEO the landscape
This is of course, not for military services. It can be later even used as TV Satellites.
Btw, I have recently opened a new region. The region is called Western Sahara. maybe you should drop a look. :D
President Tasangi
We have decided the presence of your satellites is acceptable pending an examination by Skeen Counter-Espionage agents on Earth. This to make sure that industrial or military espionage is not programmed into the satellites. Also, how would these satellites relay information back to your people? Or do they store data until retrieved?
The transports have attained orbit over the moon Vubz, and are being escorted by two Boa-class Warcarriers.
http://www.5amfunnies.com/sakkra/escort.JPG
It has been found to have a thin atmosphere containing mostly carbon dioxide, nitrogen and ammonia. Methane gases are also present. As such, we will develop this moon into an Orbital Defense post, as well as a waystation. It's hollow interior will make excellent space for defensive crafts. Construction is expected to be complete in 15 years, but the station, by our calculations, will be usable in 5 years..

John Guilder, Director of Foreign Affairs, looked over the Sakkran reply with enthusiasm. It had been a while since anyone with half a brain had made their way into space. John thought it best that he should go, rather than sending a lowly ambassador. It would give him a much-needed change of venue.
<<Begin Transmission>>
Greetings,
I believe that a trip to your colony, Sslaa 5, would be most acceptable. In truth, I haven’t been off of our planet, Eurydice, for quite some time. While it is rather large and full of exotic vacation spots, I’ve… shall we say, “been there, done that.” I don’t mean to say that my visit would be a vacation spot, just that it would be a most pleasant experience I’m sure.
Enough babbling. With your approval and guidance I will make my way to Sslaa 5 post-haste.
Sincerely,
http://207.44.246.95/147/67/upload/p918.jpg
John Guilder
Director of Foreign Affairs
<<End Transmission>>
Minister Guilder,
We have alerted the Boa-class Warcarrier ,Sessra's Teeth, about your arrival, and they are prepared to perform as a way-station for you. A Reptavian Drop-ship is being prepared to shuttle you to the surface of Sslaa 5 from the warcarrier, where it will land at Palaai Shuttle-port. We await your arrival.
Minister Seerak
Palaai Provisionary Government
The Satellites are ok to be checked. Thats fine by me.
The info will be relayed down to researchers on the planet, that are caught up by a satelite station
The satellites will be compatible with the GPS satellites we employ? If so, then that would save a fair amount of work. Our satellites utilize laser-pulse communications array to feed data to our Comm stations here, and also to communicate with incoming ships such as freighters and transports.
Skeen agents are currently going over the schematics and programming of your satellites.
The Rangers on patrol send a comm back to base.

Rigard Palace
Eurydice
John stared out of his window overlooking the Penland Province countryside. His office was located within Rigard Palace on one of the higher spires that jutted out from the side of the mountain. He appreciated the office space he had as well as the tremendously beautiful panoramic view of the greatest scenery Eurydice had to offer. It reminded him of why he went to work every day.
His gaze wavered from the green pastures and fell upon his ornamental saber. The black scabbard lined with gold was probably the most expensive thing John owned. He walked to his desk, picked it up, and carefully strapped it to his belt. He wasn’t yet accustomed the customary Midgrace outfit. It was a little too high brow for his tastes. John’s suit was made up of black pants with gold leaf intricately woven between the fibers. There was an elegant, yet plain white shirt on top encased in a black vest studded with jewels of a minute size. Over that was a jacket form fitted to John’s body. It was red and had intricate designs of flowers and other things seemingly painted on there with an ultra thin layer of gold leaf. In addition to the suit, John now wore his customary saber; it rested loosely on his right hip.
With his suit complete he went back to the window and continued in his observation.
“Director Guilder.” A voice called out to him from across the hall. The entrance of a woman followed the sound of the voice. Upon seeing John in his Midgrace she bowed. “Rise.” He said coolly, “What is it?”
The woman stood, but averted her gaze from John, “The Obedience is ready for takeoff sir. They only await your arrival.”
John nodded, “Thank you. You may go Reinna.”
The woman bowed and slowly started to walk away, taking extra care not to turn her back. It was a Eurydian custom as old as the Midgrace outfit John wore.
Septum Monitor Obedience
En route to Sessra's Teeth
John sat in his quarters doing much the same thing he did while on Eurydice. The stars offered some comfort, but in essence he was as alone as a single particle of dust floating through the depths of space. Not that it mattered, even though John was 33 and still unmarried.*
The Obedience streaked through subspace with a speed not easily matched by other Eurydian fleet craft. Being only 193 meters long, it was the shortest capital ship within the Eurydian Royal Navy. Its size did give it heightened speed and agility. John preferred traveling on a Septum Monitor, as opposed to a bulkier Star Dreadnought or Intari War Cruiser.
The captain of the Obedience called John to the bridge. The Forein Affairs Director made his way slowly down the corridor, careful to not wrinkle his outfit. He stepped onto the bridge. John could see the Sessra’s Teeth on the viewscreen. “John,” the captain said, “We’ve arrived.”
John nodded, “Good, keep the Obedience at this location until I return. Hopefully it shouldn’t take too long. I wouldn’t want to bore you captain.” John smiled.
The captain laughed, “Don’t mind me, you’re on an important diplomatic mission.”
“Indeed.” John said with a sigh.
“Good luck to you Director.”
John stepped toward the door. Suddenly he stopped, “Thanks.” He continued on his way to the shuttle bay.
*It should be noted that in normal Eurydian culture people are married at an extremely young age compared to Earthen and/or other cultures. Women can, and usually are wed once they reach their teenage years (13-14 most of the time). Men wait longer and usually marry shortly after their 18th birthday. Being 33 and unmarried is highly unusual.
(OOC: I’ve already wasted enough space. Just assume the small shuttle from the Obedience has arrived at your ship.)
http://www.5amfunnies.com/sakkra/space/warcarrier.JPG
The warcarrier Sessra's teeth transmitted landing protocol's to Minister Guilder's shuttle, which docked with nary a hitch. A wing of Anole II fighters leaves the bay as the shuttle enters, preparing to fly a patrol around the Sslaa system.
When Minister Guilder disembarks, he'll be met by Cpt. Sshouud, a female Sakkran officer. Standing at 7'1", she's considered average height for her species. The interior of the ship has smooth, organic design in mind, and the low thrumm thrumm in the background sounds akin to a heart-beat.
The Captain's scaly tail twitches as she spies the disembarking dignitary. "Minister Guilder, yes? I am Captain Sshouud of the Sakkran Stellar Navy. A shuttle is ready to accept you, and transport you to Palaai Shuttleport. If you will follow me?"
Development update:
Airfield is now complete and located about 500 kms away from the Capitol of Palaai. Construction of second and third cities is now underway, with ground-breaking being done this morn. A steady influx of colonists has seen about 30 million citizens, military personnel and others.
Exploration of the moon Vubz has shown it to be cavernous, and as such modules for military installations and ship construction bays is underway. Entry and exit tunnels are being smoothed out while power generators are being installed, with conduits, reserve batteries, contaiment systems and all associated techs for our Kreeg IVb variant A powerplants being installed.
Development of an orbital shipyard/military installation is proceeding well. Construction is 20% complete, with the main support system and basic power laid out and installed. Plumbing, life support and climate control is currently being worked on, with some glitches being ironed out.
The refinery is 55% complete. Smelting, extruding and refining machinery is set to come online fully in 1 year. Computer-controlled systems are having programming bugs ironed out, as task-scheduling conflicts began to arise. All processes are halted until the de-bugging is complete.
On the planet, support pillars for two tiered city structures is under way. A local dormant volcano in the vicinity of the third planned city will have geological survey teams testing the area for sub-crust magma levels. This will be important in determining if geo-thermal powerplants are a viable option here.
As the modified drop-ship exits the warcarrier Sessra's Teeth, the inertia-reducing gel-cushion chairs expand slightly, becoming form fitting. the shuttle enters the atmosphere of Sslaa 5 with blast shutters sealed.
To an observer on the ground, it would look like a meteor was entering the atmosphere. But this would be dispelled when the 'meteor' changes course and levels out. Super-heated air would cool, and the modified Reptavian woulod come into view as air brakes engaged.
Wings unfold and lock into place, and the VTOL turbine engines begin powering up. The craft slows dramatically, and angles towards Palaai shuttleport. After a few minutes, it lands, and the passengers exit is opened, where Minister Seerak is awaiting to greet the visiting Minister Guilder.

Director Guilder enjoyed the short trip to the surface of Sslaa 5. Although it consisted of same thing he did everyday –sitting- he was fascinated by the alien technology around him. The chair’s movement momentarily startled him, but once he found out it was merely trying to give him a safer, more pleasurable journey he relaxed. Even though John was alone per say, he felt at ease. He had heard only good things about the Sakkrans and their culture.
The transport was making final preparations for landing, and he was told as such by the ships captain. On the planet’s surface so soon? I was actually enjoying the trip. He looked out of a small window and spied the untamed wilderness of Sslaa 5. It reminded him of Eurydice’s more temperate areas. Although John had grown up in Penland Province he had spent extended times in Cornwall [province] trying to ease diplomatic tensions between workers and their high-ranking, corporate bosses.
John didn’t even notice the slight jerk as the shuttle came to a halt on terra firma. A nearby Sakkran kindly tapped John on the shoulder. Again, he was momentarily startled, but he quicky found his composure once more. John smiled to the Sakkran, “Thanks, I sometimes let my mind wander.” He wondered if he really needed to give an explanation at all. It didn’t matter.
He stood at the ships exit, waiting for it to open. As soon as it did John felt a blast of warm air. Sslaa 5 wasn’t the pressurized, sterile environment of the transport. It was raw and gritty, just like a space colony should be, He thought. It was interesting to note that mixed in between the untamed wilderness were vestiges of advanced technology. Indeed, the transport John stood on had landed on one of those vestiges. John took the first step off of the shuttle and was immediately taken in by the landscape he had only glimpsed at from the shuttle. Ignoring his usual “wandering” tendency, he ignored the surroundings and made his way toward the awaiting Sakkran(s).
He slowed his descent as he reached the bottom. He thought to extend his hand in the usual Eurydian greeting, but opted against it. “Hello,” he said, smiling, “I’m John Guilder. It’s good to finally be on Sslaa 5.”
Having been briefed on human customary greetings, Minister Seerak offers a clawed hand. He's wearing a brown robe of office, with a waist wrap. He is flanked by a pair of Rangers who don't seem armed, and are wearing plated garments that appear to be leather.
http://www.5amfunnies.com/sakkra/Character/Seerak.JPG
"Minister Guilder, it is good to have you here. We have some excellent Third Tier accomodations ready for you. Manual climate control, in case the humidity gets to be too much. If you would like to get accomodated first, one of the rangers will show you to your suite."
In the background, the sound of laser-torch welders and the whirr of hydraulics can be heard.

Clasping the wrist of the Sakkran Minister, John felt more at ease. The Sakkran’s “skin” was quite different than anything he usually greeted, but John didn’t seem to mind. He bowed slightly as the Sakkran finished speaking. “I’d be most pleased to get settled down. The trip from Eurydice was quite a long one indeed.” The Minister nodded and motioned for one of the guards to who John to his quarters. “I’ll be seeing you shortly then,” John said with a slight bow. He fiddled with the handle of his saber idly as the Sakkran ranger walked him to his accomidations. He hadn’t really brought anything with him, but surely he could have something ferried down from the Obedience.
Leaving the shuttle-port, they made their way to a ground car, flat black on the exterior. The look of it suggested a modified APC, but had sat-com relay dishes and numerous comm equipment where gun hardpoints would be. The interior was lush; velvet chairs, a small wet bar and a nutmeg smell greeted Minister Guilder as he stepped in. The Ranger took a seat in the co-pilots chair, and gave the pilot directions.
The suspension roadways leading to the city were about 20 meters wide, and stretched for hundreds of meters long. The massive central pillar structure that loomed before them reached far into the sky, tier after tier of residences and commercial buildings on each tier. A large freight elevator opened within the central pillar, and lifted them up to the top tiers.
The Ranger escorted Minister Guilder to his quarters, an organic looking structure two stories high. No sharp edges were evident either within or without the structure. The Ranger presented a bracelet to Guilder, and instructed him as to its use.
"This is your pass into this building. It reads a small quantum CPU in the bracelet, with pass codes and security clearances. Many of the amenities here are run off this device." Several meter-long beetles flew in behind them, and hovered about 2 meters over their heads, emitting a soft yellow glow from their abdomens.
The Ranger pulls a pair of small, smoothed silicate stones from a small pouch on his side, and presents one to each of the beetles. They take the stones and chew on them as they hover. "These are Resin Beetles, from the Black Swamp on Earth. They are a domesticated insect, that aid us in tunneling and supply us with building material for many of our structures, such as this one here. They also supply us with ambient light."
The Eastern Bloc
17-01-2004, 06:49
The buildings were larger than he had anticipated. They looked timid from high up in the atmosphere, but now John was feeling a little small. The ride was smooth enough, and the trip to his room was uneventful. His eyes took in everything. When presented with the bracelet John simply nodded and slipped it on; it went quite well with his Midgrace.
John was slightly startled as the bugs entered. He felt like shooing them away, but the Ranger seemed at ease. Upon his hosts explination, John was baffled, “Seeing a relation between creatures is quite unusual. Working with nature rather than against it. Your people have my praise Ranger.” He eyed the beetles more closely, “You don’t say, building material? How does that work exactly?”
The beetles hover about, circling each other as the Ranger watches absentmindedly. "They have a social hive structure, and the Queen is never far from our cities underground. They ingest minerals, stones and the like. Their digestive systems break the stones down and extract the appropriate nutrients from it. They regurgitate the undigested remnants of the minerals as a thick, viscuous paste that, when dried, is as hard as concrete, if not more-so. This is how they build their nests."
"We found that, when caught at the right time, we can shape and mold the paste to use in construction. Structures that require additonal strength are infused with titanium, much like the Central Pillars here. The Resin Beetles adapted to our presence to such a degree, that their nests are often located near the outskirts of cities. This is why we feed them. They always stay near where the food is easiest to get."
>>DANGER MESSAGE<<
On the way of transporting the Satellites to Sslan 5, one of the Satellites suddenly turned itself on and started reporting objects with an incredible speed towards the ship, and also on route for Sslan 5.
Onboard scientists were figuring out, when a distress signal was heard from one of our escorts, and also from a not too distance ship.
There was an explosion, and the escort in distress was gone. We figured that an asteriod had hit it.
The ships flew to the other distress call, but that ship had also been hit by an asteriod.
Meaning:
The asteriods are a threat to Sslan 5. It would be a good idea to activate the Defence Systems.

LRR would be glad to dispatch one of our top-of-the-line botanical research teams from LRRIT to the colony to aid in exploration. If the colony is in need of defense, we could send a squadron of torpedo boats to help out. We would also be interested in establishing trade relations with the colony. Would you accept a visit by one of our Abraham Lincoln class freighters?
(There are about 10 Abe Lincolns that survived being recycled. They are now used as freighters. They have half the laser PD turrets and most of the shielding of the combat version.)
We are not against opening trade with other nations. And as such, we would welcome the appearance of one of your Abraham Lincoln class freighters. However, defense is well taken care of at the moment.
We would caution you in reference to sending botanical research teams, as several varieties of predatorial life here have proven to be quite ... clever ... in their methods. Disastrously so.

Ok. The Andrew Carnegie and Odd Looking Monstrosity are on their way.
We would only send the Botanical Teams if you want them there. They've dealt with such creatures before. As long as they've got good power armor it should be ok.
Then you may send your teams, at your own risk of course. If you land at Palaai Shuttle-port at coordinates {xyz}, you will be greeted by one of our Rangers. They will brief you on categorized flora and fauna known at the moment.
As agreed upon by telegram, two freighters enter the system. They contain several hundred workers and construction material for the building of the port.
We have aloocated a suitable build spot 50 km south of Palaai. This should position you near the coast, where a good rock shelf has been tagged for your development purposes.
OOC: Ok, thanks. Completion of the port in 2 RL days.
The two freighters take up orbit over the site, and open their hangar doors. Soon a stream of cargo shuttles begins ferrying back and forth between the site and the ships, transporting the workers and equipment to the surface.
Devlopment update:
Our Orbital Defense and Way-Station is now complete, and already the organic-component facilities are on-line and working. The shipyard, located deep within the hollow moon has begun production of military and civilian units with greater efficiency than the Orbital Shipyard located in high Sol orbit. Three different construction facilities will be operating simultaneously.
Estimates as to construction time per facility are as follows:
Ships up to 200 meters: 4 per month minimum
Ships 201 to 600 meters: 1 per month minimum
Ships 601 to 1 km: 1 per 3 months minimum
Ships 1.01 km+: 1 per 6 months minimum
These projected estimates are for the basic crafts. Standard weapons, armor, sensors, shielding, engines and the like. Custom work would take an additional 12% time to complete minimum.
The Orbital Defense Station, named Vubz, boasts a variety iif torpedo and SPORE batteries, as well as heavy weapon emplacements and ECCM capabilities. Microwave and neutrino radar has a range of 2,000,000,000 kms. Currently hard-plating the moon for additional protection against meteor impactions, and to mask electronic and ambient radio transmissions from leaking out.
The spaceport is now open. The facilities located inside are several landing areas for ships up to 150 meters long, an embassy, a garrison for the ports security team, repair and maintenance facilities for starships, worker housing, and a hotel catering primarily to humans.
Continuing report:
Orbital Defense Station is reporting majority of bugs have been taken care of. Sensor stations were responding to random static as transmissions, and attempting automated responses, which bogged down our networks somewhat. Now have active transmission filters in place.
Defense stations, including several anti-capship missile banks and heavy neutron weapons, have been activated. These will compliment the point-defense stations already active.
Public transit systems on Sslaa 5 itself have been finalized. Transport by air shuttle is the primary mode of transportation between the cities built so far. Wind channels of some stability are where our wind farm powerplants are located.
Solar collection farms are located upon the tops of hills, which can be retracted in the event of storms.
Deep beneath the dormant volcanoes, fusion plants are being constructed to provide emergency power in a time of crisis, whatever it may be. Crews work long shifts on the architecture of the building, while technicians and engineers labor over plant designs.
Both the Orbitals; the refinery and the Defense Post and Shipyard, are complete. 8 large cities have been constructed in accordance with Imperial Edict, which is one of minimal intrusion into the life already there.
The eggs brought back by our Rangers have since hatched, and the life inside was deemed to be one of a genus of social pack hunters. The creature can be impressed on hatching, and so we have begun a program of domestication of the Gar-Hounds, as we call them. They stand at 2 meters high at full growth, with a 3 meter long tail that is used for balance. They are bipedal, with three eyes and a small set of arms with scythe-like claws.
The Resin Beetles have adapted quite nicely here, but changes are being noticed in their physiology. For one thing, an additional set of smaller wings seems to be growing on their backs. It is theorized that this is due to the excessive humidity here on Sslaa 5. It most likely is used as air circulation in their hives to keep the temperature at an optimal level for them.
Also, their soft, yellowish glow that eminates from their abdomens seems to be taking on a red hue to it. Why this is is being investigated.
Geological surveyors have come across a motherlode of gems and crystals of excellent quality. Mostly consisting of amethyst, quartz and rubies, we will begin harvesting these in one month's time. The geological survey team reports the quartz is of such quality, you could see completely through it with minimal distortion.
