(OOC: I can help with the moderation here. I have read a lot of books on the Punic Wars, Rise of the Carthaginians, Hannibal+his father, etc. I can't promise that i'll be failproof, but I can keep this within workable boundaries. And if that fails, I can always be here to bug people for inaccuracy.)

Carthaginians should have Nubians for their infantry, they composed the majority. Further infantry is mercenary in large part. They also followed Phoenician tradition and had much better ships, with much better sailors. Furthermore, they used chariots, though these were not brought through the Alps.

Macedonians: Few in number. Very Romanesque troops, long spearmen with shields. Still utilize Phalanx. Also, Cavalry is a not heavy, but uses spears.

Saguntian: Same weapons as Rome.

Gaul+Iberia: Basically...savages. Largely axes and shortswords, little armor, though leather jerkin is not too unusual. Shields of wood aren't unusual.

When's this taking place?

Alright Tremalkier, you're in. This'll take place sometime next week pending on whom joins. Perhaps you can provide several generals from each faction for players to choose from? That would help out a lot. Also, perhaps, you'd care to explain how the phalanx worked for the players? And where it was vulnerable and why (such as its rear and its flanks). Now, I'm not sure, but when did the Romans begin to use the testudo formation? Before or after the Marian reforms?

And I'll need links to your RP, Derieties; I remember Ruhr complaining about a lackluster RP effort from you, so I'll need further assurance of good RP (at least 2-3 paragraphs).

New Empire, I've seen your RP, so I guess you're in. You get the pick of the litter... I suppose you'd choose to be Hannibal, seeing as he's the only general for Carthage ATM.

Well, I would like to RP here, though I know little about the roman history other than what you learn in school.
RP history? well, I just revived my nation before christmas, so I can't go back and find my "RP history" , though Im a seasoned RPer at

http://boards.theforce.net/Role_Playing_Forum/b10328/

with my user: The_Dark_Overlord , and well.. you can't check my RP history if you'r not signed up.. so, sign up :P

I'd like to join the side of the Gauls as a cheiftain of the Insubres or the Boii, although I haven't had any luck finding any of the major kings of the timeframe given. Most Gallis leaders are mentioned before or after the timeframes. Britomartus dies circa 222 BCE, Brennus 225 BCE, Concolitanus and Aneroetes around the same time. I'd like to RP that the Gauls had not slain their own chiefs Atis and Galatus and assume the role of one of these two. They were both Boii leaders and would make good commanders.

I have a list of my own troops, noting the Gaesatae who were particularly fierce. As to my RP ability.

I have maintained a good sense of RP in my weapons thread, I believe, but I have done these others:

Winter Ball
Field Hockey World Cup
the Apostasian uprising
WWIX which most of the people quit before anything really good occured
incident concerning Royal Brunei
Five Civilized Nations

I'll like to RP as Hannibal Barca. I've written a twenty-page paper on his tactics against the Romans and how he time and time again outmanuevered the Romans. I also saw how Scipio Africanus the Elder beat him at the Battle of Zama, sealing the fate of the Carthaginians.

If you want a list of my RPs, just search under my name...

And just a side note, Carthage should control Iberia at this point, until Scipio invades and defeats Hannibal's brother...

I believe that with the generals I showed, and the time frame that New Genoa chose, that that will be true. Who knows? We are remaking history, so maybe Scipio will lose, or Hannibal will abandon the Southern Italy campaign and pin Scipio from the North with his brother from the South? Anything is possible...

Actually, speaking of the South, shouldn't the forces of Syracuse be listed? What about the confederated Greek states? Why aren't the Numidians listed, etc?

UmM i don't know on how to prove it to you besides clicking on my region and cheaking my other posts,if you like what you see i would like to be a roman legion

[History nerd post] The Confederated Greek states were, by and large, uninvolved in the conflict. For that matter, Philip V of Macedon was really Carthage's ally only on paper, as he actually fought a campaign in the east, and failed to take any action against Rome. [/end history nerd post]

Yes, but heres the problem, this RP is to be different from history. That is why I brought them up. Both were Carthaginian allies, if only de facto allies. In this RP they could fight for Carthage, or even Rome if you wanted to really go against the grain. I'd have to get a decent explanation, but I might allow it. So yes, although your historically correct, within the context of this post, your point however is meaningless.

General Romulis crassus scanned his eyes across the open feild coverd with corpses of germanic and roman soldiers, banners stuck in the ground fluttering in the wind as the gentle snow came down. He turned to his men scurrying into position and took a deep breath,"men! this will be the battle to determain the outcome of this war!, unfortuneally more lives must be scarificed for rome, for your familys, for the emperor..". He paused for his words to highten the spirts of his men, then a voice echoed "here they come!",Craussus spun around to see a massive mob of barbarians streaming out of the forest letting out crys unherd to those of a non military nature, dirty and ragged with much facial hair they didn't look much like men. a centurian raced up to the general mounted on a horse and exclaimed "a people should know defeat", crassus looked him in the eyes with a percing glare then simply nodded.

OOC: Unfortunately there is no Emperor of Rome at this time. The first emperor is Octavian Augustus, nephew of Julius Caesar. That's more than 200 years in the future.
08-01-2004, 18:32
OOC: But he didnt mention a specific time frame now did he? Therefore for the 'emperor' was perfectly viable. Here's a useless fact. Octavian had never been trained let alone seen combat when he commanded his first army against the murderers and traitors from ceasar's regime.

New Genoa,

I'll play as Rome. As for a resume, I'm afraid that some of my best RPs are now lost forever. I'm sure you know them, though. I'll list the two best ones I can think of (every other current RP I'm in is not good by my standards).

First terrorist attack in Feline... ever! (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=90086)
Starting on page 3 or 4, a subplot develops where an evil cult tries to take over the Nanakaland government. The cultists go as far as hijacking a few planes and almost attack Feline to get Feline against Nanakaland, but the cultists were stopped. Strangely enough, the actual RP never finished, only the cultist subplot.

Realm of the Risen (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=103594)
An awesome survival horror RP started by Steel Butterfly. It hasn't been finished yet, but it is toward the end. My characters are Dan (that's all I remember of his name because he died a while back) and Paul Christianson. Everyone in the Ream of the Risen RP are good RPers. Look specifically at my posts and you'll see my RP skills.

Interesting, not sure I have the time to RP, but could provide consultation if anyone needed. Ther could be more allies of Rome provided if needed, say Veii was a large member of the Alliance System that Rome had under her control and helped glue that Alliance together even under pressure from Hannibal. just an offer

just 1? to understand the romans and their legions requires a shelf. the legion was the power behind the senate, the legion was the government and those that controlled the legion controlled the empire, Augustus understood this at an early age from Antony, Sulla had a concept, Caesar did not want to try it for fear of the ultimate corruption, and once it was put in practice, Rome suffered a hundred years of civil war after the four emporers.
09-01-2004, 06:39
i have chosen The Battle of Ilipa, i got the tactics for it and all, 206 B.C, im not certain who commanded this legion so i will make som1 up but play it as it should be, exactly..i have men placements, movements of the enemy and my own...

The problem behind this concept is this.....the reason why the legions had so much power is because the roman senate allowed the generals to pay the legionaires out of their own pocket or raise wages. So instead of the legions owing their loyalty to Rome, they gave it to their generals. Most of the legionaires were patriotic but it was overcome by their loyalty to their general. The senate should have imposed some strict regulations on the generals...
