Wishik Independence

We have just been informed that High Chancellor Sparrow will be addressing the nation, regarding the Veritasean province of Wishik:
"Ladies and gentlemen, as many of you know, for the past century or so Wishik has been a semi-autonomous province of the Imperial Republic of Unum Veritas. This relationship has, in the past, worked quite well for all involved, however just this morning a Wishik ambassador entered my office with a request and a few sheets of paper. His request was that Wishik once more become an independent state, and the sheets of paper were 1,000 Wishik signatures and a formal request for independence. I have met with my advisors and have come to the conclusion that we shall grant them their independence peacefully. Veritasean Marines shall remain in Wishik to ensure the peace and to help transition the new government, however eventually Wishik will once again become a completely autonomous nationstate. My formal request for the Senate to ratify this agreement was sent to the Senate Caller this morning and they are expected to meet tomorrow. The hopes and prayers of the Veritasean government and all of its people go with the newly re-formed nation of Wishik."

Every television set in Wishik was dialed to news channel 13, awaiting the impending announcement from the government. The streets were empty, shops were closed, and there wasn't a mail carrier in sight. The peaceful protesters has left the streets and returned to their homes, in high hopes of finally having been heard.
Suddenly back from a commercial break, anchorwoman Jane Cisco announced that they would be cutting live to the Palace for the government's announcement.
Secretary of State Andujar Rodriguez took the podium, straightened his coat, and began to speak:
"Ladies and gentlemen, citizens of Wishik. Excuse me." Rodriguez stepped aside to clear his throat, and wiped away moisture that was beginning to collect on his forehead. This was an announcement of epic proportions, one that he had been waiting to make for three long years.
"Ladies and gentlemen, talks with Unum Veritas have increased dramatically over the past few days. Chancellor Packard is currently in a session with a representative from Unum Veritas , finalizing details and arrangements that will make the Autonomous State of Wishik an independent nation at last."
The press erupted in applause, nearly all dropping their notepads and recorders. Tears came into the eyes of Rodriguez, and a huge smile broke onto his face.
The cities of Wishik went insane with joy. Champagne was sprayed in nearly every home, honking cars crowded the streets, and mortal enemies locked in battle ceased and embraced as brothers.
Rodriguez continued. "The negotiations are not fully complete, but with recent progress, they should be finalized within the week. I'm afraid I cannot give you any details at this time. I can however present to you the following: Under the proposed agreement, Wishik will become an independent nation for the first time in 57 years. Unum Veritas will continue diplomatic relations and trade with Wishik, and assist in the transistion into a new government. Wishik will continue to provide the region of Crazy Drunk Omniscient Monkeys with an Air Force. There may also be a change in currency. That is all I can tell you at this time. Be ready for more announcements in the coming days."
Sisco's image returned on the screen, recapping the story's developments and details, but nobody in Wishik was listening. Even the bedridden rose and began breakdancing. The city was in ultimate hysteria, and the Unum Veritas National Guard was called in to assist the Wishik National Guard in order to prevent any rioting.
But there is no malice in Wishik today. Merely utter happiness.
IP wishes to express its support of Unum and its decision at letting peace take precedence in this matter. Any assistance, if needed, is available to both Unum and the newly declared State of Wishik.

Chairman, Foreign Affairs
Wishik appreciates IP's support in the upcoming transition, and will gladly call upon them for assistance should the need for any arise.
-Andujar Rodriguez, Secretary of State
(OOC: Where'd you get Devin Haack, I've heard it somewhere before I think. Or did you just make it up?)
ooc: I just like Devin for a guy's name, and Haack is my girlfriends last name. To me it just seems like a nice fit. Plus, I've used in our alliance thread. Maybe that's what your thinking of.
We gladly await for the official end to negotiations giving Wishik a formal state of independence. As you were once apart of Unum, we can talk about possibly extending to you the same benifits from our alliance with Unum. But we will hold such talk till your negotiations with Unum have been accomplished, to avoid interferring with those talks.

IP---Wishik and UV are not the same person OOC anymore. We were, but now I'm giving back to its original owner.

The Veritasean Imperial Marines in the streets of Wishik looked around nervously, while compulsively tightening their grips on their rifles. They hadn't receieved any advance warning and had been just as surprised as everyone else at the announcement, and even moreso at being called in to keep the peace. They had not expected the exuberant reaction the Wishik citizens were having and their commanders appeared to fear the forming of a mob. So far looting was not a problem, but that could change at any moment. The Marines were deployed throughout the major cities, with Wishik National Guardsmen blocking all major intersections throughout the nation.

(OOC: Wow this semester has been more challenging than I thought it would. Am I allowed to say your name in the forum, JB? Or not?)
(OOC: Oh yeah, this post will have two parts.)
PART I:
Orwin Cale was ecstatic. He and his friends had been watching the big game at the sports bar when the government broke in with their announcement. Finally he could truly call himself a true Wishikian! He and his buddies loaded up in the back of his truck and sped down the highway, honking their horn in triumph.
They soon arrived at traffic, due to the fact the entire population of Golden Shores was doing the same thing. They saw a group of Wishikian National Guards and Veritasean Imperial Marines talking and decided to make a gesture of gratitude towards the deliberators. Orwin, already a bit boozed up, grabbed a six pack and leaped out of the truck bed, rushing towards the group of armed men with a huge smile on his face.
PART II:
Chancellor Jarvis Packard sat in his huge office. He loved the panorama view he had of both the city and the adjacent ocean. The ocean was soothing during hectic times.
Yet these were anything but hectic times. Packard leaned back in his recliner and stuck a cigar in his mouth. The cigars, ironically, imported from Unum Veritas, the captor-turned-deliberator.
But, thinking back, Unum Veritas wasn't a captor at all. Merely a provider. In actuality, Wishik would have collapsed following the Great Defection had Unum Veritas not stepped in. They had made his job a whole lot easier.
But now, he hoped, more responsibility would come his way. He knew that a democratic government was in the agreement with Unum Veritas, and he would surely be a top candidate to lead the new nation. He bit his cigar.
Outside, fireworks lit up the skies over the ocean, and singing began in the crowded streets of Golden Shores.
"What a night," Packard said to himself. "What a night."
The unsigned papers on his desk were addressed from the High Chancellor of Unum Veritas, calling for a high security meeting the next day.

Effrenata, as a leading industrial nation, we import very few finished goods, however we thank you for your kind offer.
The Veritasean Marines, trained for actual combat situations rather than peacekeeping missions, immediately reacted to the man running towards them as they would an enemy combatant. Each Marine took cover behind the parked Hummers and trained their weapon on the incoming man. Laser sights were flicked on and Cale soon found himself with a collection of red dots at the center of his chest. Luckily, one of the officers had the presence of mind to shout,
"On the ground, now! Keep your hands where we can see them and drop to the ground!"
Cale looked a bit confused but decided to slowly comply. As soon as he was on the ground the Marines slowly moved forward, each providing cover of another, until Cale had been frisked and deemed safe.

After a night of celebrating, many citizens half-expected to be completely independent immediately, but as morning dawned it was apparent that this was not the case just yet. Heavy fog cut down on the local visibility range, but Wishik citizens living on the coast could see warships bearing the Veritasean flag lying off the coast. This was a normal sight, even during the days of Wishikian independence, since Unum Veritas was responsible for the region's naval defense, but something was still abnormal. Under normal circumstances, sound carries over water, but on such a still morning as this even the slightest sound seemed to be magnified ten times over and thsoe living on Wishik's coast could definitely hear signs of increased activity aboard the Veritasean ships. This, of course, puzzled the Wishikians, but what they couldn't know with the decreased visibility was that the ships off Wishik's coast were not the normal frigates or destroyers or even the less normal aircraft carrier, but rather Helicopter Assault Ships that had arrived overnight and were even now running final checks on the transport and assault helicopters aboard the flight deck. Fifteen minutes later, just long enough for the residents to have dismissed the sounds as erroneous, the deafening roar of countless helicopters shattered the relative silence of the calm morning. The more fearful of the citizens fled indoors, fearing an invasion, while the braver ones stood their ground and looked up to see a swarm of troop transport helos and attack choppers flying over this civilian airspace. As the sound of the rotors slowly faded into the interior of Wishik, citizens began meeting throughout the coastal towns, discussing what this might mean. Many of the Wishikians were fearful of a possible military action against Wishik from Unum Veritas, but fortunately for them the helicopters were only ferrying reinforcement Marines to Veritasean bases scattered throughout the country. The Unum Veritas embassy in Wishik's capital had tripled its Marine contingent and had several evac helicopters on standby at all times, should a situation arise. Imperial Marine bases throughout Wishik were closed to the public, with their entrances barricaded and guarded night and day. This would be the first full day since the announcement and would provide insight into how the whole situation would play out.

(OOC: EXTREMELY sorry anyone involved...this past few weeks have been extremely rough on me. I must learn not to procrastinate, haha. Anyways, back to business).
Cale, more drunk than confused, happily arose from the ground, handed the six pack of Tarisian Ale to the Veritasean MP's, and ran back to his truck.
