Geography
Samel is a middle sized island nation, its terrain is mainly wooded, hilly plains, with an extensive coastline, with a large mountain range in the centre of the country. The population is heavenly urbanised concentrating around the cities of Aachen the capital of Samel, Raftenberg and Ueloft. The climate ranges strongly according to season, the summers being exceptionally warm and the winters exceptionally cold. Samel is rich in both mineral wealth with the presence of much coal, iron ore, nickel, copper, zinc and uranium as well as timber, hydroelectricity and fish, however the soil is poor and the climate unforgiving meaning Samel can hardly feed itself. The main export is thus ores, timber and manufactured parts. Thus Samel although not rich is prosperous enough to give to its citizens a lifestyle of sufficient comfort. Politically Samel is made up of 12 provinces Gelf, Verst, Horst, Norstenlan, Kaaster, Raskorl, Saltenlan, Haas, Kasltal, Amurst, Ooesterrek, Furst and Noorstelf, each is semi autonomous each containing its own Parliament, First Minister and President, mainly concerned with regional affairs, health, education, policing etc.

Politics

Breakdown Vote in Last Samel Election to the Confederate Assembly 2002
Freedom (Liberal) Party 40% FP
Socialist Party 23% SP
Centre (Conservative) Party 13% CP
Christian Democrat (Christian Conservatives) Party 9% CDP
Green Party 8% GP
Communist Party 4% CP
Samel First (Nationalist) Party 3% NFP

The current government is a coalition between the Freedom Party, Socialist Party and Green Party, this is the normal state in Samel political history, however the Freedom Party lost its overwhelming majority in the last election, forcing it to make radical concessions to the Socialists to maintain their support. Samel is a highly liberal state where the prority is society, it is secular, tolerate and open but not very cosmopolitan. It tends towards pacifism and neutrality.
