Chimaea

**CCBC Report**
In an astonishing move today, Sir Reginald Styles, Governor of the Commonwealth, addressed a meeting of the Baron Security Council in which he pledged his support to Lavenrunz coup leader Count von Mirbach.
In a speech already described as possibly the most scalding for the unpopular Styles administration, the Governor said that while he had respect for the Imperial line in Lavenrunz, Count von Mirbach's coup could possibly be what was needed in the trouble-torn nation.
*Clip from Sir Reginald's speech*
"...I do not agree with violent siezing of power, but in the circumstances, I believe that Count Mirbach's actions will herald a new dawn for the Empire. He is a figure of stability in a nation that has suffered much. The firm leadership of yesteryear is gone, replaced by insecurity and a kind of escalating 'ordered chaos'.
In pledging my support for the count, I do not intend in any way for this to worsen relations with SATO or our allies. This admittedly unpopular position has to be taken for the stability, security and prospoerity of Lavenrunz, a nation that has more than once stood side-by-side with Chimaea in many matters.
I do, however, have a few reservations. I do not support Count von Mirbach's dangerous proposed relations with the Reich or with GDODAD. I encourage the Count to take the way of democracy and civil rights and I do not believe that those two power blocs support either of these principles upon which great nations are founded. Chimaea has always had a firm policy of countering the expansionist moves of the Reich and the GDODAD and I give my word that we will not move from these policies.
My friends, we live in a delicate turning point in our history. As a global community we must seek that the world remains stable, that situations such as this do not fall into chaos. We must remain in control and that's the reason Count Mirbach has my support.
I must also protest any outside military involvement in Lavenrunz, whether it be from SATO, Menelmacar, the Reich or GDODAD. I join in Knootoss in my request to all Lavenrunz armed forces to demobilise and turn to securing Lavenrunz borders from incursion.
Lastly, I call on Count von Mirbach to conduct free and fair elections as soon as possible--with UN observers if requested by the parties involved. I strongly discourage accepting funds or electoral observers from the Reich..."

Although the Governor supports Count von Mirbach, not everyone in his own party supports this decision. Senator Michelle Dominic has led the outspoken split within the Liberal Democrats as a result of the Governor's show of support. This was very evident in Parliament today as Senator Dominic led a symbollic walking out of other politicans from many different parties in protest.

"...Chimaea is not in the business of supporting bloody revolutionaries, no matter how stable they seem. It's stability without democracy and civil rights, contrary to the Governor's claims--otherwise Count Mirbach would not have siezed power by force."

Whatever the truth of the matter, the Governor is clearly standing on thin ice over this issue. It is rumoured that Chimaea's armed forces commander, General Garrison, has openly disagreed with this policy. It is rare when a Chimaean commander-in-chief deals in poliitics and General Garrison has always taken a shadowed approach when dealing with politics that arise but his support of the Imperial line in Lavenrunz is clear. After all, he had previously dealt with Empress Joanna in SATO and previous to that, in the Ienotheisa crisis, alongside of Lord Bryce, the previous Governor.
A rift in the Commonwealth Armed Forces is definitely not what Sir Reginald needs as a fresh election approaches and his popularity wavers. This last action might just end in an alienation of the people from the government. Whatever happens, dark times seem to be looming for the Commonwealth.
