A question about tech levels

I would like to know if it is acceptable to be both a modern-tech and future-tech nation at the same time.

If I have a big spacefleet and use it for only space, can I still have a small earth force equipped with modern-tech gear and have it be legitimate? Say at the airport, there are cargo corvettes parked at one end and Il-76s at the other, and if I get attacked the cargo corvettes aren't affected because they're another tech level, right? And they can't do anything back, right? Say my population lives both on earth and in space. Can that be legitimate, as long as the space part only interacts with the earth part in times of peace and when the seperate tech levels don't matter?

Woah, this is confusing. So, does anyone have any answers/objections to my plan?

OCC: I definately miss RPing stuff on earth. But I love space/scifi too. I hope its possible to have both.

Ehh... unless someone can rape the laws of physics by altering spacetime... and be in two times as once, then sure... But you're nation's time is equivilent to your highest tech level.

Example: You have a Spacefleet and modern Groundpounders. Your Spacefleet has technology dating around 2100-2300, your groundpounders dating around 2000. Your national year would be 2100-2300, because that's your highest tech leve. Besides, Orbital bombardment of a 20th Century war is hardly fair, or possible.

I run two era's of rps..one modern and one future. I'm planning on linking them soon.

Ok. Here's my solution:

approx. 450 million of my citizens will be moern tech associated, the rest will be space tech. They will be pretty much two different nations of LRR.

I'm earth tech primarily, and I say OK to what your doing. I mean, Tremalkier also has its own space fleet and such for the handful of times we have done future RPs, its just that so long as you distinguish your characters, rulers, and other factors, its fine. Just don't tie the two together beyond any historical progression that won't affect your RPs.

Ok! Thanks! Its especially good that this comes from an older nation!!!!

Actually, something like the above might make an interesting RP. Mixing up timelines for specific RPs can be great, you just have to organize before hand. So if you want a war with knights who use DU rifles against a mongol horde of aliens, you can just arrange it, say PRIVATE, and go for the moon.

One idea I have is that you could have it where a long way back, like when your nation was young, continuous research efforts into reaching the sky were made very early. While your space flight abilities would be relatively advanced for its time, the rest of your nation's technology, possibly including any computer and/or weapons systems on the space crafts, ought to be falling behind enough to level things out.

Just my 2 cents of an idea. :D
