Old Quarter (Center of City)

The Repairs to the Old Quarter of St. Hansburg are nearly complete. Trimuva Square has been cleared of rubble and graffiti and local artists are hard at work on the repairs to the Fountain of Doves and the statues of the famous Square where the first Czar, Hansel the Great stood and announced St. Hansburg to be the capital of the Empire.

The Imperial Palace itself has been completely destroyed by the war all that remains is a gutted shell of it's former glory where for three centuries the House Toria ruled Sialus. By order of Her Royal Majesty the rubble will be cleared and the now unstable ruin will be torn down and each slab of rock will be used in a memorial on the site of the old Palace to honor those who died in the Civil War. Also by her order a beautiful garden will in time be planted around the memorial to show that even with so much dead and destruction life always endures and goes on.

The rest of the Old Quarter is mainly government buildings that are either empty or destroyed, no decision has been made on what to do with them yet.

The Canals

Due to the war the canals of St. Hansburg have been allowed to become swamped with algei and water plants, the stink of it has made using the canals a very unpleasent experience so measures have been taken to clean the Canals up and repair them where needed.

The Rounda (Civilian Sectors)

The various Roundas of St. Hansburg are in various states of health from flourishing to being a complete pile of rubble and decay. Repairs are being done where needed but a very large number of people are still living in the tent communities outside the city limits because their homes were completely destroyed.

The Villas

The Villas and estates that exist outside the city that serve as the main homes of the Royal Houses and a few of the more powerful Great Houses still remain intact and the familes still live in their Villas in unlimited comfort and happiness as people outside the Villas starve and fight for the right to live. By order of Her Royal Highness this however has begun change as the Royal and Great Houses have opened their pocketbooks and have begun to use their incredible weath to rebuild the city, and the nation as a whole.

The New Imperial Palace

Plans for a New Imperial Palace that will stand in the largest of the now destroyed Roundas have been drawn up and the rubble is being removed. Her Royal Highness has spent a large amount of her time between the city of St. Hansburg and Triski where her current home, the Winter Palace (the only Palace of the former Grand Royal House still standing) resides. Triski will serve as a temporary capital until St. Hansburg is rebuilt.

Church of St. Peter

The Church of St. Peter, the largest Church in all of Sialus which was destroyed during the Civil War now has a large number of volunteer construction workers and architects working on restoring the Church to it's former glory. The Church was once the center of the Sialus Orthodox Church and has been the site for many events in Sialus History. The Head of the Sialus Orthodox Church (which is State Sponsored even though Freedom of Faith is allowed to a large number of other faiths) has always been the Czar/Czarina of Sialus. Now the Czarina has promised to restore this symbol of Sialus Faith to it's former glory.

The Empire of Sialus

I have decided that it is in Christemont's best interests to help those in trouble. We will happily offer the nation of Sialus $40 million USD in order to help with reconstruction of St. Hansburg. It is hoped that Sialus will accept this offer, and we will send baskets of red roses, so that when St. Hansburg is reconstructed, you may celebrate joyously.

The National Assembly of Anthonycha has just voted to send 1.5 million in military troops for protection against instability following the aftermath of such a war as a well as 24 million beer of your choices (our national currency) and 3.5 million relief workers to help rebuild the St. Hansburg.

Official statement of the National Assembly is given by Lord Chang Buck Yunn, Holy Emperor Elect of Anthonycha "We extend our hand of cooperation toward the rebuilding of St. Hansburg and hope that the people of Sialus recover well from such devastation."

"I myself will assist in the people in the scraping of the algae and cleaning of the Algaes. No task is below that of the leader of a nation."

Like many nations there was a time when canals of Keltana were the lifeblood to trade and commerce. With the development of modern transportation the canals fell into a state of disrepair and neglect. In recent years that have taken on a new role as places of leisure and recreation which has meant extensive dredging, cleaning and landscaping. Special dredgers were developed to undertake this task. We also have trained teams of canal maintenance people who look after the canals in general and the locks in particular. If any of these may be of assistance to you, we would be glad to make 2 dredgers and three maintenance teams available on request.

Announcement from the Church of St. Peter

Czarina Alexandria II stands in front of the podium on the steps of the Church, a crowd of over 10,000 people cheer and applaud upon the lowest steps but grow quiet as she begins to speak.

"My people, for the past year we have been hard at work to rebuild our nation, not just here in St. Hansburg but nationwide we have done everything to pick up the shards. I am pleased to say that we have done just that!

*The crowd erupts but Alexandria motions for quiet*

"Within just one year a miracle has happened, that miracle has been nothing short of over 2/3rds of St. Hansburg completely repaired! This Church, once a pile of ash and broken dreams is now within the finishing months of complete restoration! It was our spirit and our faith in the Empire that made this happen, but we must not forget the aid given to use by the following nations, Christemont, Keltana, and Anthonycha!"

*The Czarina's pauses for breath before going on*

"Though much is now rebuilt there is still much more to do, our economy still stands upon complete breakdown and our armies are still being reorganized but I ask of you my people to continue to place your faith in my rule and I promise you results. I promise you nothing short of glory for the Empire of Sialus!"

Imperial Highness,

As an initial step Keltana is sending Alexander Melville of Duncannon to act as Advisor. Sir Alexander will work with your Highness's Government in selecting a site suitable for an Embassy. Sir Alexander comes from a very old and distinguished Keltana Family and has had a wealth of experience in conducting negotiations of behalf of Keltana. I am sure your Highness will find him most agreeable. On completion of this last mission, Sir Alexander will return to Keltana and a well deserved retirement. Although I do believe he will continue with his main interest in Wildlife Preservation. In the intervening period consideration will be given to the appointment of suitable persons who will constitute the Staff of the Embassy.

I believe this first step we have taken today is a major one because every imitative between our two countries starts from this very place and as of this very moment. It is a historical event.

Today in Keltana.

Cathures

The funeral was held today of Baron Alexander MacTarge, First Consul, who died quietly in his home in Caerdonald. Baron MacTarge, who had been ill for some time, was surrounded by family and friends and is survived by his wife, Elizabeth and their three children, Elizabeth, Isabell and Alexander. The family had requested a private funeral but this did not stop the crowds lining the pavements as the Cortège made its way from the centre of the city, past the ancient City Watch Tower, through High Street, into Castle Parade to the Cathedral Church of Cathures. The Funeral, which was attended by family, his many friends and members of the Government, was conducted by the Moderator of the Church of Keltana, The Rt. Reverend Andrew P. Welsh. At the conclusion of the service, Baron MacTarge was laid to rest in the family vault beneath the Cathedral Church. As a mark of respect all flags in Keltana will be flown half-mast for three days. Alexander MacTarge was a great servant to the people of Keltana. His steady and guiding hand will be greatly missed.

In other news: Somerled of Morven was confirmed as First Consul. His first priority will be to balance the needs of Keltana and determine whether or not Keltana has the desire to increase its foreign aid programme. For most of its history, Keltana has been isolationist with only a limited foreign aid programme. Extending this programme could well see Keltana become more involved in international politics, something it has always avoided. The government will also hold talks with several Trade Union leaders in order to put an end to the strikes that have disrupted production in the last month.
