Several Days Earlier:
"The Federal Republic of New York and New Jersey must move so that its borders remain secure. While we have allies to the South, our northern and western border remains with those who we have no diplomatic contant with. This situation is unacceptable and therefor with the permission of President de los Santos, I will wage Operation Icy Path..." The announcement came from the head of the Federal Army, George C Marshall, as he had recently gotten permission fromthe President of NYNJ to carry out Operation Icy Path(OPIC). It was decided that a quick offensive in the north followed by a sustained offensive to the west is what was most likely to work. With bases within striking distance of all the targets the war wasnt expected to last to long.
The Present:
The 2nd Tank Division and 3rd Motorized Division formed on the border of Vermont/New Hampshire while to the south east the 5th Tank Division and the 2nd Motorized Division formed up on the Massachusetts/New Hampshire border. On the Vermont line General George Patton had been tasked with cutting the state down the middle pushing all the way through the southern tip of Maine and to the Atlantic itself. To the south on the Mass. Line General Omar Bradley was tasked with meeting up with Pattons line and ensure that the troops boxed off in southern New Hampshire were either destroyed or forced to surrender.
In New York the whirl of helicopters could be heard the 1st and 5th Air Cavalary Divisions under command of General Norman Sherwood took to the skies and proceeded toward the north. They would make a deep strike past Pattons cutline and attempt to secure the northern part of New Hampshire. This was all dependant upon the fact that no military equipment had been moved into NH after NH was bought off the New York and New Jersey Republic decades ago. It was seen as a manifest destiny situation as the NYNJ Republic felt as if the two states in the north were a blight on the Republic and the Western nation of Ohio which turned communist was a threat which could not be ignored for any longer.
As the hour approached for the point of no return General Marshall took in a deep breath and picked up the satellite radio standing just outside of the main military HQ in New York City. "General Patton,Bradley,Sherwood good luck and god speed to your Army Groups. Remember speed is the key."
A few more words were spoken before the lines went silent. As the time ticked away the few remaining seconds of peace each soldier did what they believed would get them through the next few days without harm. A whistle sounded once then died. On the Vermont Line the whoosh of helicopters could be heard in the South West as the Airborne Divisions of General Sherwood moved on their mission. Below them Pattons troops began their own movement across the winter lands toward the now enemy state. On the Mass line, things went slightly slower. Bradley had made sure that his Motorized Divisions attached Artillary Brigade worked with his Armored Divisions AH-64Ds to try and pinpoint any likely military targets and strike at them repeatedly with rocket fire, and shell fire.
