Xanthal

It has not been too many years since the nation of Xanthal was transformed from a dictatorship to a nation where governmental power rested with a Senate and Council. Now, however, the people of Xanthal are considering the benefits of returning to the less bureaucratic days of the dictators. Soon a decision will be made by the Xanthalian people whether to reinstate the position of Dictator to their government and do away with (or minimize) the Senate and Council. Arguments on both sides are strong.
"The Senate provides diverse representation, something not available in a dictatorship. It's important that citizens of various races, backgrounds, and origins are represented and have a vote in the Xanthalian government. A little bureaucracy is an acceptable price to pay for such a valuable thing as full representation."
-Nick Renolds, Xanthalian Senate.
"The Senate and Council are wonderful institutions, no one denies that; but Xanthal has remained a power in our galaxy over the years because of our ability to respond quickly to the ever-changing conditions around us. A dictator would speed decisions and provide the strong and competent central leadership that has defined our nation for millenia. You argue that they provide biased representation, but you must remember that Xanthalian dictators are elected by the people and can be removed by the people. If a dictator goes astray of the path Xanthal wishes to follow, they can be replaced."
-Sara Fuller, Xanthalian Council.
