Methods of Execution

Wretchengard
01-01-2004, 21:00
It has become apparent to us that a large number of nations, the Eternal Dominion of Wretchengard included, practice capital punishment. As Lord of the Department of Justic, I would like to know which methods of execution other nations prefer, for statistical purposes. Feel free to elaborate on specific execution rituals as well, or if you're preferred method of execution is not listed.

Usually, isolation on a long-haul freighter until they either die of old age or suicide.

When that's not an option, lethal injection followed by feeding the body into a biomass recycler.

Firing squads are common, but sometimes we also like to use small rooms with rabid monkeys. It may seem funny, but it works quite well, especially when televised to the interested population.

Beheading by headsman's axe or sword is the most common form of execution practiced by the Eternal Dominion, although we have also been known to use crucifixion, hanging, firing squad, and draw and quartering on condemned criminals.

The most extreme punishment under Wretchan Law is the "13 Deaths of Wretchengard." This most severe of executions consists of 12 terrible tortures over the span of 12 days, with execution by beheading following on the 13th day. Execution is always carried out by either the Overlord himself or the High Justicar, me.

OOC: really sorry I couldn't include more options; I had a lot more, but didn't realize that we're only allowed 5 poll options. :(

Other.

In Central Facehuggeria, Terrorists and other hardcore criminals are flayed open and then allowed to bleed to death.
However, sometimes in certain cases more... Exotic methods are used.
For instance, with one criminal, convicted of killing 200 people, we chopped off his feet, then put him in a pit with around twenty Chryssalids. (Chryssalids, our national animal are large humanoid bugs that use humans as incubators for their eggs.) He got to feel a hideous creature growing inside him, feeding off his internal organs, which then ate its way out of his body.

*Note* only people who are convicted of the most heinous crimes and are proven guilty by signifigant evidence against them get executed in the above fashions. *note*

Orduin practices a method of execution known by our people as the "Ordeal of the Criminal." First, the prisoner is marched through Archonis, the capital, while crowds of people attack him. Next, they are brought to the Courts of Justice for their sentence. Following the
sentence, they are taken to Victory Square, where they are flogged for their crime. Following this, they sit in an isolated cell for one month, then marched out and executed by firing squad.

The Serene^Union does practice capital punishment in the event of a guilty verdict being returned on the following crimes

Murder Class I, Murder of law enforcement official[s]

Class I treason against ruling goverment

Terrorist acts against mass populance resulting in deaths.

For those found guilty, and sentenced to death the method of execution is Cerebral Termination. The condemned prisoner is first strapped to a secure bed unit, to minimise possible injuries to apothacaries and associated staff. powerful anesthetics of a nature not suited to descrption are utilised to ensure the prisoner is unconscious before the procedure continues. Suitably equipped medical equipment then disrupts neural activity within the vital centres of the brain, leading to a rapid degredation in the electrical signal output. A final result of this is failure of the brain stem, resulting in both circulatory and respiratory failure and subsequent death.

The process has been found both sound of technique, and painless. However the significant cost of the machinery involved, coupled with the knowledge required to carry out such a procedure limits their use as a form of capital punishment.

Additional

Though records indicate a foreign national has never been tried nor convicted within Kaeneian borders, the Cerebral Termination process would require significant alteration to accept a non Kaeneian, [Terran human or other species] without alteration the procedure would fail to ensure the expiration of the prisoner, and inflict crippling and permanent brain damage.

Rather than capital punishment, public humiliation is the norm in Sagatia, followed by Community Service ... In extreme cases (such as mental inbalance) lifelong incarceration in an institution designed to cater for the needs of the perpetrator (padded cell, whatever is necessary) is practised

Public humiliation takes the form of multistorey stocks (with the head and hands held therough holes between two blocks of wood). The more extreme/heinous the crime, the lower down the stocks the criminal is placed (so that the faeces and urine of those above make their way down to them)

A few days/weeks/months of dogs urinating on them, other criminals excrement dropping onto them from above, bored teens throwing tins of food at them, members of the opposite sex laughing at them (and so forth) can be a very salutory warning in our experience

In Commorargh we have a better method. The method is to torure someone so horrificaly that they are in constant agony and feed them a drug which keeps them alive(only used for punishment purposes). At the end they are set free.

They are not in a very good shape though :)

OOC- This is unrelated to my nation, but the ancient Romans used to tie up serious offenders in a sack along with a rooster and a dog and then throw the sack in the river. The person, before they could drown, was clawed to shreds by the animals frantically attempting to escape. Just thought that was interesting.

The United Empire of Colerica uses multiple forms of execution, however, the most common is hanging. Others include hang, draw, and quarter, beheading, firing squad, et all...

It has been common practice that convicted persons in our judicial system undergo a myriad of brutal sentences, but our form of lethal execution is the age old method of crushing.

Ithuania, being a moral nation, does indeed execute criminals.

Currently, the following three crimes are punishable by death:
Battery, in which case the offender is drawn and quartered.
Rape, in which case the offender is killed by whatever means chosen by the victim (unless the victim is no longer alive, in which case the offender is made subject to extreme torture and then executed by having his wrists slit and lungs punctured and then being allowed to suffocate and bleed to death)
Murder, in which case the offender is executed by being run over with a steam roller.

THe EMpire of Eizen prefers to use the method of "Merciful Extraction" in which all criminals slated for life imprisonment or death are cross referenced with our medical database in order to determine wether or not they make for potential organ donors.

An Imperial Citizen is then given a second chance at life through the extraction of this criminal's organs.
Sketch
01-01-2004, 23:51
In Sketch, standard criminals (petty theives, rapist, ruffians, generally everyday lowlife scum) are put before what can loosely be called a "firing squad" (really just a low enforcement official with a gun). The executions are carried out unceremoniously, with as little disruption as possible. A daily occurence, and not anything special or unusual.

On the other hand, criminals of a more contemptous nature (traitors of the state, politcal dissedents, ideological deviants, basically high profile cases) are incinerated alive in public executions. The message intended is not primarily one of deterence (although public displays will naturally act as one), but rather, the underlining statement that all disease shall be purged and purified by the fire of Sketch. Once the execution is carried out, all public records of the crime, the criminal, and any resultant actions thereof are purged - rendering the entire ordeal non-existent.

Great efforts are made to ensure that such cases, as mentioned above, never make it out into public. Most of the time, such crimes are noticed before they become too public, and are quietly taken care of - disappearances in the middle of the night, sudden openings in job positions, questions carefully not asked, etc. In such cases where the deviants have been successfully aprehended before any damage to society is dealt, they are treated to the same sentence as the common dregs of society (unceremoniously induced brain hemorrage). However, all records of such individual(s) who have committed the henious crime are still purged, to keep Sketch pure of all societal abominations.
Peaceful Brotherhood

In the Peaceful Brotherhood we recognise the need to control our human resources. They need to be guided, educated and nurished. When one of them fails to follow the rules, they need to be re-educated. If they have truly broken the rules, they need to be punished. It is sad, but sometimes the punishment needs to be strong. If they have rejected society by rejecting the rules that the society as a whole agrees to then society will reject them. The ultimate rejection is of course death. In the Peaceful Brotherhood, we have a unique execution method in that the poor lost brother is sent to meet his end in the lair of our Most Serene Brother, a dragon.

The Empire normally uses an eye for an eye type method....but only in serious cases. Therefore while raping someone will cause you to lose your genitals, stealing a candy bar will not cause you to lose your hand or something. We have prison colonies...prisons kill each other...and are encouraged to if they're in for life. Lethal injection is used, transfer to human experiment sectors are common, and for very horrible criminals, public quartering.
