Master Sergeant Griggs was sitting at his desk in Terenaus, watching the fly on the far wall of the recruiting center. He held his M9 in one hand, the laser twitching near the oblivious insect. His finger tightened a little, and the gun clicked empty. The fly flew away, and Griggs dropped the pistol, blowing across the unfired barrel. The doors to the station opened, and a middle-aged man ran in, jumping about excitedly. Griggs raised his eyebrows, looked at the civilian disdainfully. "You lost?"
The man grinned, "No, Sergeant..." he looked for a name, "Griggs. My names Geoffrey Parkins, and I have something you'll like!"
"Really?" Griggs asked, dubious and itching to beat a stupid civie.
"Yes, Sarge! I worked on the Hellfire and Caseless projects for Armatech. I retired a while back, but I had this idea... homing rounds!" He almost laughed, giddy.
"Sure, buddy. Those would be nice, but no... they don't work."
"Au contrare!" Parkins declared. "I have a modified PSG from Armatech... a parting gift of sorts. Let me get it to you, you can try it."
Griggs was about to kick the civie out when he remembered how bored he was. What the hell. I can have some fun with this nutcase. "Okay, buddy, get the rifle."
Parkins dashed out the door and returned with a PSG-1, with several bulky attatchments around the barrel, and a large new digital scope. There was a boxy contraption on the far side of the gun, with a series of batteries loaded in. Griggs narrowed his eyes. "What the hell?"
"Gotta have a computer to acquire, Sarge!" Parkins replied, eagerly. "Let's go to the range."
Griggs put a Corporal on the desk job, and took two PFCs with him and the civilian. He took the modified PSG-1, shifted it about to get the balance. The gun was already heavy, and with the new pointless attatchments, it was almost a two man job. As they walked into the sniper range, Parkins kept talking. "I could have used fins on an AMR penetrator, or some other form of FS round, but then it wouldn't be a bullet. With thrust, I could do more, but I needed a conventional round modification-" he cut himself off. "Here we are! Sarge? Line up on the farthest target you've got!"
Griggs pointed to a tiny human silhoutte. "One point two klicks. Almost an impossible shot."
Parkins grinned. "Scope up on it. You'll notice an additional ring inside the scope, one that wraps the german post."
"I see it." Said the prone Griggs, as the PFCs watched.
"Okay, now place the target inside the ring. Wait till the green light turns on. You see it?"
Inside the 10x scope, the ring closed on the figure, becoming a small loop on the target's "chest". A green light blinked on, and the words Target: Torso appeared. Griggs smiled. "Cute effects, Parkins. You can tinker, I'll give you that."
"Fire the rifle, Sarge."
The PSG-1 rocked back, the bullet fired. At the extreme range target, the figure flipped back, dropped with a precise shot to the chest. One of the PFCs clapped. "Good shot, Sarge."
Griggs grunted. Must have been me. I'll test this. The target flipped back up, and Griggs fired again. Again, the shot was dead on. What the hell?
Parkins almost jumped from giddiness. "Now, don't even aim! Just get the target in the ring! Point the gun somewhere else!"
Griggs nodded. BANG! The target dropped. Griggs placed down the PSG-1, his face white. "How?"
Parkins patted him on the back. "Simple. But first, get me your superiors. I think they might be interested."
Griggs pointed to a soldier. "Get the Colonel." he looked back at Parkins. "You are going to be a very rich man."

.:Two Weeks Later:.
Parkins stood before the Procurement Comitee of the KDF Small Arms Department. Behind him, in his short sleeve white shirt and smiley face tie that played "Don't Worry", he used a laser pointer to detail his round design.
"Okay, so we have a central core, stable inside the spinning bullet, with all the required equipment. There is an optics set in the front, like on a Maverick ASM. This relays the target data to the guidance systems, a set of single-purpose atomic line relays... basically, a retarded quantum computer. This calculates the angle of the target, and the micromotor adjusts a weighted ball bearing. This unbalanced ball shifts the heavy side towards the angle of the target. The change in weight adjusts the bullet onto the trajectory."
"How much adjustment can this give?"
"Well, it ain't flying round corners, but I can give ten to fifteen degrees of maneuver per millisecond of flight."
"Jesus."

.:Ammo Trials
Sorobade Marine Sniper School
Old Ultor Mining Facility:.
"Okay, boys!" Gunnery Sergeant Masterson bellowed, while the snipers chambered the special Parkins ammunition. "This is the real shit, and each of these rounds is costing us over a thousand credits, and you better believe that we aren't paying you to cap off at the sky." There was laughter from the ghillie suited figures. "Anywho, we're here to test this shit at ranges. You've all been trained on these rounds, and your respective services have sent you here to review them. There are ten targets for each of you, set at point eight to one point five klicks. These are chambered in your choice of rifles: M24s, MSG-1s, Winchester .300, M87r, and AMR among them. Get to work."
The sound of various rifle reports echoed, and Masterson grinned as target after target fell with perfect accuracy. "Okay, now lets try moving targets!"
The next round of testing began.

OCC:I find this a cool idea.
ICC:Hayden Oberdier recives a call from his summer home. This is no ordinary call; the man talking to Hayden is a high-ranking government offical.
"Well Hayden, we've recived info on some new type of ammunition developed by Kaukolastan. Word has it that the ammo can actually home in on a target. Your the best shot Ravea has ever had. Go in and test these things out for yourself. See if they can match you. We are going to try and see if we can't get an....appointment for you to go to Kaukolastan and put these things to the test. Be ready to leave at a moments notice."
The line goes dead.
Hayden, a once-glourios Sniper, sighs as he withdraws various weapons from a cabinent. It looks like he might have to go back to shooting once again.

Darius watched through the MSG-1 scope, set the ring on the dodging target. He tracked the randomized movements back and forth, trying to hold the object inside his ring. Hold the target in the reticle for point seven-three seconds. The target hesitated, and the ring turned red, the guidance locked. Gotcha.
BANG!
The target was out of the ring again when he fired, but the Parkins round fixed that problem, and it exploded into whirling scrap. He lowered the rifle, turned to Masterson. His spotter stayed behind.
Masterson turned, "Yes, Agent?"
"Impressive gun, but what about overcorrection?"
"Well, it can judge with 99% accuracy at any target moving less than eighty mph perpendicular to shot. At greater speeds, the accuracy drops to 84%. Anything else?"
"How many can I get for the ISA?"
Masterson laughed. "I asked about the same for the Marines a while back, Agent. Parkins is giving his report soon."

.:Isis Facility Conference Chamber:.
The Comittee met again to discuss the Parkins rounds, their reports from the members of the testing teams before them. They looked up as Parkins entered the room, grinning from ear to ear. The chairman asked him, "Well, Mr. Parkins, I think you've seen our reports, and you know our conclusions. What can you give us?"
Parkins handed out packets of information. "Well, you know the cost increases as the size decreases. Chambering in 5.56 will cost over one hundred thousand creds a pop, while 7.62 is only about seventy thousand. At 12.7, or .50 cal, will be about thirty-five."
The Marine General commented, "We know what 12.7 is."
Parkins shrugged sheepishly. "Sorry, sir. I get a little jumpy."
The Air Force general asked, "Could you produce these in twenty or thirty millimeters? These could be beneficial in a dogfight."
"Of course, sir! I was getting there. At that scale, we don't need quantum anymore, and the cost drops to about five thousand." There was nodding, and Parkins continued. "Now, a benefit to this ammo would be in a hostage situation. The round would avoid the obstruction, in this case the hostage, and strike the target. This could save lives." He waited for a second, then pressed on. "I can also make a simpler version of this round, with gyros to stabilize. While it wouldn't home, it would stay in a staight line, no matter wind or weather. This would be about one-third cost of a full homing round." he paused. "Well?"
There was a moment of silence, then the chairman declared. "We're sold. We'll begin building the production facility immeadiately."
"You won't regret it!"

As you are our ally, we can arrange a testing/demonstration of that size, but you still must pay if you purchase some, simply because of the sheer production cost.

Are the rounds available in .303 British?
and
What would you charge for 1,000 rounds in .303 British?

To: Overseer Telenu
Despite the incidents about thirty years ago, we believe you a stable and respectable government. We can arrange a demonstration of the Parkins Ammunition for you, if you so wish.
STOP.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To: The IDB, Roycelandia
We can indeed chamber in .303. Due to the unique caliber, the there will be an initial 500,000 credit fee to modify our facilities, but after that, the rounds will only cost 40,000, due to their larger size. Also, we will need a .303 rifle so we can modify it to use the new ammunition.
STOP.

An announcement from Kaukolastan today emerged regarding the Parkins rounds. Any nation receiving the ammunition would be asked to send a rifle they wished converted. Kaukolastan will take it apart, study it, and produce five Parkins capable variants for the recieving country, free of charge. To receive more rifles, contact the local embassy.
(The difficulty is in producing the round/rifle/sight interface, and must be produced in a clean room with SEM precision. With the rifles are full service manuals and training books. The Parkins rounds and the scope/computer assembly must not get wet, and are susceptible to EMP. Kaukolastan will replace any damaged computer assemblies not caused by carelessness. No country may reproduce/sell/give away these rifles or rounds.)
OOC: Attempting to analyze the rounds will destroy the quantum computer lines inside and destroy the round beyond analysis. To "learn" this tech, you'd have to get the manufacturing specs from the Kaukolastan gov't, and I'm not selling that yet.

We extend an invitation for a delegation of up to twenty people to come to Ceraph Island, an old mining facility we have converted into a live-fire range. We will meet your delegation at the Capital and transport to Ceraph by Osprey, and the demonstration should take about a day. We will be using M24 Sniper Rifles, so please have your shooters trained on this weapon. We will also showcase M82 .50 and MSG-1 mods, if you wish to fire those as well.

The Imperial Defence Bureau is concerned at the very high cost of making .303 British rounds- it is certainly not a unique calibre, but nonetheless we are still interested, and a Mk III SMLE and a No. 5 Jungle Carbine have been sent to the appropriate agencies so that manufacture can begin.
We look forward to the test, which we will certainly be send representatives to.

You are welcome to attend. We apologize about the confusion regarding the caliber. Although not a rare caliber, it has never been used by Kaukolastan, so we had to test and design the rounds to be equiped. With the rifles you sent, they have been refitted, and the ammunition produced. We await your arrival.
