TBF edge out Clearwater despite two late goals

The Belmore Family just managed to beat Clearwater despite a strong finish by their opponents thanks to early goals from Tom Roberts, Alex Milan and Matt Aylwin. Tom opened the game when he pushed his way into the box to fire away a stunning shot that rocketed past the keeper to give TBF the lead. Serveral Close attempts again by Tom eventually lead to a wonder strike from the edge of the D that fell staight onto the stick of Alex Milan giving TBF a 2-0 lead goin into the break. But after the break it was toatally different with Clearwater controling the match, but as things usually go in these matches Matt Aylwin caught them on the break taking the ball down the majority of the pitch to place the ball around the keepers diving body giving TBF what seemed like an insaliable 3-0 lead. But then Clearwater struck back. TBF gave away a sloppy penlty flick when Edwards controled the ball with his feet which <player 6> had no trouble converting it into an easy goal. This sparked something with Clearwater, they realised they might just be able to pull back, pulling off serveral shots that could have so nearly gone in. Clearwater then got what they deserved when <player 9> placed the ball beautifully to the left of the keeper after controling the ball from a penlty corner.

Fluke Goal Gives Streeters First Point
Draw Against Timway Sends Qualifying Odds Down The Drain

Faci, The Belmore Family - An entertaining and most exciting game saw Cockbill Street's field hockey players gain their first point in the Field Hockey World Cup ever. Against experienced Timway, few that had any knowledge of the sport would have expected Cockbill Street to pull off a draw. However, sport is never decided on paper, and the work-rate and good team spirit in the Cockbill Street side paid off.

That, and the boost they got early on from Ian Hornby's goal, of course. It was nearly hopeless, an attack that had been going on for about a minute or so, but suddenly Hornby found himself unmarked on a pass from McRae and it was 1-0 after only eleven minutes.

Timway's side fought back with some very good goals, two from penalty corners and one from a counter-attack, leading them to 3-1 at the half-time break. However, the lead brought with it complacency, and some sloppy defending allowed Steve Key to weave through and score a magnificent goal. Thus it was 2-3, and a fair game again. But only seconds later, Liam Andrews in the Cockbill Street goal was thoroughly beaten as Lars Chesthacker fouled a Timway player for a penalty flick. 4-2 with 20 minutes to go.

The Timway players, however, weren't exactly happy with the situation. They looked stressed, despite leading by two goals, and gave away many simple passes. One of them was picked up by Olaf Axewielder, who ran through and lobbed it over the keeper for 3-4. Then the fantastic goal with about four minutes to spare. Harmison had the ball down the left wing, but had few passing options. He just hit it into the D with no target whatsoever. The ball hit three Timway sticks, the goalpost, bounced off again, before Cretaceous slammed it in with a beauty of a shot that made it four all.

The Cockbill Street players celebrated for ten minutes afterwards, along with the whole of the CSFHF, who had been longing for the first world cup points since the last championship. Joining in the celebration were the lot of known field hockey fans in Cockbill Street, bringing the total of people present to forty-two.

Cockbill Street XI: Liam Andrews, Peter Harmison, Lars Chesthacker, Alan Hoggard, Steve Key, Mary Belmore, Ian Hornby, Liz Ure, Damien McRae, Olaf Axewielder, Cretaceous.

We can't do it without Xatri!
The whole rejistanian south fell into the state of mourning as the field hockey team were defeated by the newcomers from New Manhattan by an embarrassing 0-2. It was the first match without the field hockey legend Xatri Y and goalie Jiveb Hangatil. Janaki I Jasra replaced Hangatil'he and Kie Naruk played on Y'he's position. It was clear, that they don't have the class of the rejistanian legends, but it was not clear, how confused the team was without them. The New Manhattanian players dominated the match. Chuck Wilkinson and Norman Svalza scored the two goals in a match, that could easily have ended much higher. Coach Nelil Ri was not available for comment.

The result:
New Manhattan 2 (Wilkinson 7th, Svalza 13th)

...or at least he was supposed to be watching the game, but as a result of the unpredictable climate in the Mussex area, the forecast of a hot, clear day was completely wrong, and so our man was trapped in his hotel because of the deep snow that had fallen. Luckily for Belmorian Scandanavia, the pitch was kept covered, and the trounced the fledgling Druids side 5-1. The happiest Druid in The Belmore Family, though, was Trevor Honeyman, who didn't have to endure this mauling.

However, we have no report of the game, so Trevor Honeyman won't be happy any longer when he finds out he's been fired for his unprofessional approach to reporting. His position will be taken by our Belmorian Correspondent, Trevor Belmore, for the time being, until we find another field hockey expert to send over there on the meagre wages we pay them. AGNOSTICIUM GETS SPANKED IN OPENING GAME, LOSES 5-2 TO 15TH RANKED EMINA

Somewhere out there (AP) - Anessa Burbank stared dejectedly at the scoreboard as the final whistle blew, ending what was (according to her), ".. the worst go**amn game of my entire f*cking life." This after a performance rated second-to-none during the last few years of the Field Hockey World Cup. Although Agnosticium had never finished any higher than 3rd, they were and still must be considered a perennial power.

Agnosticium jumped out to an early lead, as they are wont to do with two quick goals by Shannon Tamara and Anessa Burbank, only to be followed up by one of the greatest team collapses in the history of the sport. Said Coach Lazaridis, "It was like someone had taken a baseball bat and beat us stupid with it! After the second score we looked like a high school team out there. Actually, I'm sure my daughter could have beat the crap out of this team. We were horrible after the first seven minutes."

Emina took swift advantage of the collapse at both ends of the field, denying Burbank entrance to their defensive third and sucessfully making all-star goalie, Liz DiFiore look like she was playing matador defense. Her shot blocking had so many lapses and her coverage of the goal so many holes that it appeared she was doing her best swiss cheese impression. After the match, DiFiore could only glare at reporters and remained silent.

The only vocal person on the team seemed to be 14-yr veteran bench-warmer Janelle Bracy who was as animated in this game as ever. Her contract currently has her being paid 234,000 holy dollars and she says she is quite happy to sit ont he bench and make that kind of money. Well she was in for a bigger surprise as she got her first playing minutes in 254 games when Lazaridis started her in the second period.

Bracy seemed to be the only one on the team with any spunk, going after the ball and the opposing players with equal zeal. Although ejected barely nine and-a-half minutes into the second period, Bracy showed the fire that had brought Agnosticium from a no-name team to a world power. She was ejected for attacking the referee after being called for a foul on an Eminan midfielder. A blatant hack (she tried to play gold with the opposing player's ankles), she was called on the spot. The referee then had his hands full as the veteran exploded and socked him in the jaw. While suspended for the next three games, rumor has it that the Agnostican boxing coach arrived in town about four hours after the incident and was seen talking to bracy.

In the end, even Bracy's fire couldn't stop the Eminan onslaught as the Agnos women fell to 0-1 in group play.

Vixens Triumph in Initial Match

The Ravenspire Vixens returned to their offense-centered ways after a disappointing showing in the last World Cup, leading to a stunning high-scoring match which saw nine goals in total and averaged one scoring attempt per two minutes of play.

The former champions remained tied with opponents El Dorrado for large portions of the match; neither side ever took the lead by more than one goal. The furious offense of the Vixens was shared by the Dorradans' own strikers, and both teams' midfielders and defenders were constantly struggling against the incessant attacks. The overwhelming offense led to a 5-4 result, with the deciding goal scored by the Vixens' Alia Kitsune five minutes before the conclusion of the match.

"It's good to get back out there. It was a good match," was the only comment offered by team member Renata Mondain.
Tanah Burung

Another Cup, Another Nickname

Tanah Burung has often looked promising at the FHWC, but never performed an iota above expectations. This is a team that continues to disappoint its fans. Unlike the national football team, no one thinks its failures are the result of a curse: that's because no one expects the field hockey team to do well.

In an effort to change all that, the team starts this FHWC with yet another nickname. Formerly called the Fighting Ostriches, and before that the Emus, they are now calling themselves the Camels. "Yeah, flightless birds weren't doing it for us. Slow and steady wins the race, especially if it's hot out and the match runs for 90 minutes instead of 60," said a hopeful new coach, Antonia d'Antonia.

The Camels, currently ranked 12th, opened against Alex the Tall, ranked number 21. A win was needed to keep pace with Kaze Progressa, whose sports teams usually perform quite well, thank you. A win was not in the cards, however. The Camels came home with a draw, 1-1.

"It's becoming absurd," said one fan. "They can't win. They can't even lose in style. They should casll the team the Mediocres."

The Belmore Family have progressed into the second round after a solid 2-0 win against newbies Excelsioria in front of an impressed home crowd. It was Dan Dorim who got the two goals. The first for converting a strong free-hit into the D and the second for a great solo run, and stunning goal.

Correction: We CAN do it without Xatri!
After an embarrasing 0-2 loss against New Manhattan, the Rejistanha'ny came back impressivly and defeated Cockbill Street by the same score. Apparently it was not the fact, that Xatri Y missed, but the 'opening-match-curse' what made the Rejistanha'ny lose. In this match, the team improved drastically and actually had something like a structure or a concept. The Streetians were the better team in the first mnutes, but the Rejistanha'ny slowly gained control over the game. In the 15th minute, it was Hsi'he, who scored the first goal. The Streetians had also some chances, but I Jasra'he was in good form, so their efforts remained fruitless. When Naruk'he archieved the second goal in a penalty flick, it was also a sign: The Rejistanian field hockey is not dead even if the top-players left the team.

The result:
Rejistania: 2 (Hsi 15th, Naruk 45th)

Mystikal Inspired Agnos Team Wins 2-0

Sliponia (AP) - Emerging from the entry tunnel to the blaring music of hip-hop artist, Mystikal, the Agnostican Field Hockey Team "Bounced Back" and won the second match in group play, defeating Klaxaculcatta. With Anessa Burbank sidelined due to comments made to the media following a 5-2 thrashing at the hands of Emina, midfielder Shannon Tamara took the reins and scored both of the goals for the Agnos team.

A very even match throughout, Tamara was the star of the game for Agnosticium, relegating the play to mostly the middle of the field where she kept her teammates energized and focused, concentrating more on ball control than run-and-gun offense. As a result, when the scoring opportunities came, she used her explosiveness to attack the gaps in defense and score.

"We finally started playing like a team that wants to win this thing," said Coach Lazaridis, "We got off of our asses and played with some heart. If I didn't know better I would say that this was a completely different team than the one which played two days ago. We were that much better."

Said goalie Liz DiFiore who recorded her 7th international shutout, "I feel much better afte this game. I started doubting myself way too much last game and was concentrating way too hard on what I was doing. Today I just let the game come to me and I fell into this zne. True I didn't have to defend that many shots, but I just felt more comfortable out there." Not surprising as the last game was DiFiore's first game back after giving birth to twins three months ago.

As a side note, Janelle Bracy, suspended for attacking a referee has agreed to a five fight, 10 million dollar contract with boxing promoter Adrian Baxter and has alo agreed to be on the Agnos Boxing Team for the next Olympics. Bracy's punch left the referee (who has asked to remain anonymous) unconcious for seventeen minutes.

…DRUIDS CRASH OUT
Belmorian correspondent Trevor Belmore reports on FHWC VII from Hussex, The Belmore Family.

…there was bad news for NEWI Cefn Druids, as they crashed out with another thrashing, this time 3-0 against Liverpool England. After scoring only one goal in two games, while conceding an appalling eight, even a draw against Lubistan seems unlikely.

Two badly defended penalty corners followed by a penalty shot were enough to give Liverpool England a comfortable victory over the World Cup Newcomers.

The Vixens faced Sliponia and came away the winners by a solid three goals, improving their position to first in their group and guaranteeing their qualification for the World Cup. While the Vixens again focused on offense, the team's defense was tighter and more coordinated, not allowing any goals past. A light rainfall may have contributed to this achievement, as the slick grass ruined a handful of scoring attempts on each side.

The Vixens next face group low side Terranos. Most analysts predict a win by a 2-goal margin.

DiFiore, Burbank, Tamara ejected - Agnosticium loses to Winless Amerikhana

Sliponia (R) - In a sport full of upsets and surprises, top-ranked Agnosticium was humbled once again by Amerikhana, an unranked opponent. Losing 1-0 in regulation, Agnosticium is in grave danger of not advancing past the first round for the first time in three World Cups. Many team reports indicate that Coach Lazaridis, who led this team to the World Cup last year, is now on the hot-seat for failing to perform with a superior team to any other year he has been the coach.

With the additions of Nahkee Jackson, Marissa Foster, Mariel Colaneri and Kirsten Boulds, this Agnosticium squad was touted as one of the best line-ups in current field hockey history. Instead the team has been rocked by poor attitudes, two scandals and numerous blunders on the field of play. With the loss of Janelle Bracy, it seems that the Agnos women simply don't have their heads in the game.

This much was evident in the second period when stars Anessa Burbank, Liz DiFiore and Shannon Tamara were all ejected after getting into a heated argument with a couple of Amerikhana players over a particularly hard foul in the Agnos backfield around the goal. Though warned, all five players continued to jaw at each other until Tamara blatantly shouldered the Amerikhanan player to the ground and kicked them in passing. The ensuing fight saw Burbank charge in from the forward's spot and DiFIore from goal.

With three of its top players ejected, including their all-star goalie, Agnosticium couldn't stop the vengeful Amerikhanan team who scored minutes after the debacle on their way to their first win. Comments are expected later from the coach and players as well as statements from the three ejected women.

Honored Sir,

Perhaps, it is sometimes effective, if players get visited by men in uniforms, who tell them not to lose or face the consequences. At least this time it has worked. The Amerikans have played like world-champions against the Agnostics. I think our team has a good perspective, even if they didn't qualify. Please give our team a second try in the next championship and don't execute players because of their failing to win the other two matches.

Obedient greetings

Rejistanha'ny defeat Timway
The Rejistanha'ny have played their third match without Xatri Y and they reached their second victory. The Junis-Omeh started strong and controlled the first minutes of the match easily. In the 9th minute, Selda Taki~ll scored the lead goal, which remeained the only goal in this match. After that, Timway started to play more aggresive. Now the Junis-Omeh were the ones, who defended merely. The second started also with an offensive Rejistanian side, but they were unable to capitalise their chances. After this 1-0 victory, the chances are high, that the Orange-Blues will play in the round of 16, but it can't be confirmed, since we don't know the result of the second match.

Sliponia upsets El Dorrado
With Win, Sliponia Qualifies for Round of 16.

By Luke Herrington

SLIPONIA -- The Sliponian National Team (2-0-1) were on the prowl as they upset, at the time, group leader El Dorrado with a 2-1 victory..

Scorers from Sliponia were Jason Sakic and Jeff Barnes.

According to Sliponia's head coach Tom Luady, team unity was the reason behind the win.

"Nobody and I mean nobody thought we'd win this match, except for us. We came into this match third in the group facing possible elimination, but we pulled through with the tie-breaking goal just before regular time expired," Laudy stated.

The Sliponian Field Hockey World Cup Team's next match is in the round of 16 against Timway (1-1-1).

Wollie was heard to comment, "Ravea's team isnt made up of idiots......they are just a bit mis-understood." Mr. Varnish has gone up into history as the only Raven to ever actually enjoy seeing Ravens play Field Hockey.

TBF progress into Quarters

The Belmore Family have advanced to the quarter finals of the Field Hockey World Cup with a stunning win over Tanah Burung.

This was the first time these two team had meeten in 32 years of Field Hockey and the game was spectacular. The oldest teams in the world gave the spectators a real show.

The first half saw Tanah Burung take the lead when <player 11> got past his marker Jean Aleisi to just run the ball past Gerrard Berger. The half then continued under the flow of the Burung side.

When the teams emergerd from the tunnel in the second half the Belmorian side was completly different. They were able to get the ball down field quickly which lead to Sterling Moss scoring a great goal after superlative passing in the D. But TBF finally won the match on the 76th minute when Montya's blast into the D was met by Shumacher's stick.

Junis-Omeh smash Liverpool England 6-1
The Orange-Blues have defeated Liverpool England by the not-close-anymore result of 6-1, in case you don't believe it and think it was just a typo: Rejistania six - Liverpool England one. When the match started, no one expected the Rejistanha'ny to win that highly - or even to win: The first goal was scored by the Liverpool England player Master'he, before the Rejistanha'ny even realized, that the match started. This encouraged the Junis-omeh only to play more offensive and score one goal after another. Hsi'he managed to archieve the first hat trick in his international carreer. The other three goals were archieved by Naruk'he (2 goals) and I Nala'he. Xatri Y, who watched the match in the stadium only commented: "Unbelievable!"

The result:
Rejistania: 6
Liverpool England: 1

Junis-Omeh win the quarterfinal!
The Junis-Omeh won their first quarterfinal ever. The opponent was Emina, a team that was defeated 1-0 in the group stage of FHWC6 by Ri'he's team. Emina wanted revenge for that and started offensivly. The defense and I Jasra'he needed much luck to keep the score down to nil in the first minutes. Despite their attempts was Hsi'he the one, who archieved the first goal in this match. unfortunatly, the Eminans equalized minutes later. The score was 1-1 and remained like this during large parts of the game due to the skill of both defenses and goalies. Three minutes before the final whistle, I Nala'he archieved the deciding 2-1. One thing is clear after this best-ever performance of a rejistanian team: We can do it without Xatri. We all feared who the first cup without him would end, but the Rejistanha'ny were capable to replace him.

Agnosticium To Go Home In Disgrace

Sliponia (AP) - Agnostican coach, Del Lazaridis has been fired and the women of the national field hockey team crushed with their inability to make it to the second round of the seventh Field Hockey World Cup championship. This disappointment comes after an astounding overtime win at the last FHWC in which the Agnostican team was accorded the honor of the cup. This is the first time in four tournaments that Agnosticium has not made it to the second round and sponsors are very displeased.

Nykey athletic apparell has withdrawn its sponsorship of the team after only its first year on contract, stating that "the status of the field hockey team is not equal to the status of our product. We do not endorse losing teams and ineffective coaches. Perhaps, in the future, the Agnostican field hockey players will wear the Swish but not the near future. They have to prove themselves first.

Crocodade, a sports drink giant has also withdrawn support although it is rumored that this is only publicly and that the company will continue to endorse the team privately. Crocodade is a subsidiary of the Krak-Kola company.

Said captain of the squad Anessa Burbank, "This is, by far, the most embarrassing moment in my entire life. We came into this ranked number one and we have been a contender for every year at which we showed up and the first year that we actually are looked at as the favorites and we get knocked out in the first round. It's like we're American women soccer players. This is complete and utter bullsh*t." When asked if she would be back for another cup, "You bet your f*cking life I'm coming back. We may not win it, but there is no way in hell that we are going to rest until we are once again among the top five teams in the world. We know we're good. You know we're good and we're going to prove it next time out."

TBF go to 3rd Place Play-Off for thrird time

Again TBF are looking at achieving third after loosing to 25th ranked Alex the Tall.

It was Micheal Shumacher who got the game underway, scoring a beautiful goal from a penlty corner. Alex the Tall, being rather stunned by this goal just stood around whule One Pablo Montya just dribbled the ball into the D scoring a nice goal into the top hand coner of the goal. But then it just went downhill for TBF with Alex the Tall outplaying TBF, who were lucky not to conceed at least 5 goal from the Tallian side. But the Tallin side did manage to win the match 3-2 when <player 11> scored a great hat-trick.

Junis-Omeh go for gold
The Junis-Omeh continued their amazing streak by defeating El Dorrado 5-1. The 'golden country' never found into the game. They had some chances, but couldn't capitalize all but one. Nelil Ri's team dominated the match from the first minute. Inira Hsi archieved the first goal for the Orange-Blues in the 4th minute. The 'goldlanders' tried to get the equalizer at all costs. the costs were in this case enough space for the Orange-Blues to increase the score again. This time, Kie Naruk was the one, who scored. Hsi'he archieved the 3-0 three minutes before half-time. In the second half, the Dorrados started better and <player> scored the consolation goal in a penalty flick. Fortunatly, the Junis-omeh improved and Jure I Nala and Naruk'he took any illusions that the Dorrados could equalize again. The second half ended 5-1.

TBF get 3rd

TBF got third place in the Field Hockey World Cup last night as they destroyed the El Dorrado team.

Schumacher got the game underway after 14 minutes when his solo run got the crowd silent, in awe at his skill. Sadly for the El Dorrado team, so was their goal-keeper who just watched the ball fly into the goal giving TBF a 1-0 lead. The rampage continued with Alonso controlling Montoya's penalty corner and blasting it nicely into the corner of the goal. Then TBF stood silent for the rest of the half, not being able to bypass the El Dorrado defense. So the teams went in at 2-0 at half-time.

But then, after the break tactics came into play. TBF had changed their formation to a 3-3-4 to clinch the match, and El Dorrado staying with their original 4-4-2 formation. But TBF's tactics turned out to be the best, with the forwards passing round their defense with ease. So unsurprisingly TBF got another goal after only 5 minutes when Senna's strong cross got to the stick of Schumacher giving the ball an easy flight high into the goal. But the Dorradian defense stood firm, not letting in another goal until the 78th minute as Montoya's edge of the D hit flew over the keeper's diving body. Then TBF were allowed to run riot. The team had given up. They weren’t going to pull back a 4-0 deposit. So it was with ease the Schumacher scored his hatrick, making his way into the box and scoring a low hard drive into the goal. But it was not finished there, Senna added a sixth on the 90th minute from a great long corner.

From the Sikenian Daily:

(image of celebrating Junis-Omeh just after the final whistle)

We Are The Champions!
The incredible winning streak of the Junis-Omeh lasted till the final against Alex the Tall, played in Alan City. The Orange-Blues themselfes couldn't believe it after the final whistle and needed several seconds to realize that it was a real final and that they really won 4-2.

The first minutes of the match were dominated by the Talls, who had several 100% chances. Thanks Inikresa, I Jasra'he was in the right placce at the right time so the score remained nil all then. In the 10th minute, It was the Junis-Omeh who started scoring. Inira Hsi, who became the hope of Rejistania field hockey after Xatri Y retired, again prove his class by outsmarting two Tall defenders and the goalie. The score was 1-0 and whole Rejistania went crazy. The Talls answered by attacking again, but they had huge problems with the Rejistanian defense. The equalizer in the 14th minute by <player> was merly a fluke. But luck or not, the score was equalized. Nelil Ri shouted things at his team in Isesian, which were not ment to be heard by children. This worked at least. The Junis-Omeh improved their game gained dominance and in the 35th minute, Naruk'he took the lead again. Furious Junis-Omeh attacks met a Tall defense. The half-time result remained despite of this 2-1.

The second half started good for Nelil Ri's team: Just minutes after the start, I Nala'he archieved the 3-1. The tall merely tried to limit the damage. They played like Shonar Banglar in soccer, very defensive. The Junis-Omeh had problems with this type of match. they could not archieve anything against this tactic. Then suddently the Talls made a counter, which was not expected by anyone. Even their coach seemed o be surprised when they decreased the lead to only 3-2 for the Rejistanha'ny. After that counter, the Talls played defensive again, but Hsi'he was able to score the 4-2 three minutes before the final whistle.

After this great victory, Nelil Ri has announced to quit his job as coach of the national team. He said: "Leave when thing's best!" Possible succesors are Sa-Tri On, who coached the team in FHWC2, Revada Hled, who currently coaches the club Miki~irani Na~ovi or Syku Tasman, currently employed by Sike Tarante.
