NEW SYDNEY, Nova Cape Breton (Cape Breton Company Public Affairs Office) –
Cape Breton Company officials today announced the successful launch and orbital insertion of a communications satellite designed to provide a broad range of information services to the citizens of Nova Cape Breton.
The two-ton satellite, built by the Cape Breton Company’s Aerospace Services Division rode to orbit on a first-generation delivery system developed by the Cape Breton Company’s Transportation Systems Division, and achieved orbit as planned by the Space Systems Division. CBC Space Systems officials also noted that the satellite’s services should be available to citizens within three weeks.
Charles Sadler, vice-president of public affairs for the Information Services Division said that the launch signaled a new era of progress for the citizens of Nova Cape Breton:
“This satellite positions our Information Services Division to become the leader in the provision of a variety of services to citizens. It is the first in a planned constellation that will allow our customers to have access to a wide variety of services, including lower cost communications. We plan to scale back the existing hard-line voice and data networks as more satellites are launched, so that we can offer true satellite-based services. Also planned is the introduction of a universal global positioning system that will be offered as standard on all Cape Breton Company Motorcar Division automobiles within three model years. We have developed a system that is similar to the American OnStar system, and will be making it available to as many customers as possible. After all, that’s the point of the Cape Breton Company’s Consumer Products subsidiary, to improve the lives of our customers.”
The head of Nova Cape Breton’s Commonwealth Air and Space Administration, Daniel Forbin, said that the launch showed the robust strength of the Bretonian private sector, and that he expected Cape Breton Company Space Systems to “play a competitive leadership role” in the bidding for government contracts to build the planned space station.
Cape Breton Company common and preferred stock rose two points on the day’s news.
