Introduction
History: Early History
The ancestors of the Nanakan people are primarily of English decent, but there was a powerful Nanakan Empire ruled by a dynasty of Elven warrior kings over 2000 years ago. Nanakaland as we know it today was founded by a group of colonists in the 18th century. It was under English control until 1801, when the Nanakans revolted. Due to its distance from England, the few troops that could be sent to the area were repelled and independence was gained. The peaceful colonists didn’t draft a constitution, however, until August 20, 1803. The constitution was effective as of the next year.
The Christianization of Nanakaland
Even though Nanakaland was under English control for a while, it was still relatively non-Western in culture. It would take something else to do that. In 1814, American traders arrived on the shores of idependent Nanakaland. They brought prosperity to Nanakaland's economy. They also brought Christianity with them. At first reluctant, they eventually converted. By 1824, Nanakaland was over 70% Christian.
The Desolation of Nanakaland
After thirty years of success, a severe famine hit Nanakaland. From 1855 to 1861, the Nanakan population shrank severely. Traders stopped coming to Nanakaland, making things worse. By 1861, the Nanakan population was only one million. The economy crashed and Nanakaland was all but abandoned. It would take a miricle to bring back Nanakaland to its old glory.
The Silent Years
From 1861 to 1933, Nanakaland was seldomn heard from. The population very slightly increased and the economy stayed horrible. Even though the famine was gone, Nanakaland was no where near its former glory. Only one event in the rest of the world gave Nanakaland it's power back....
The Great Depression
In the 1930s, a depression filled most of the world. However, Nanakaland was not effected by it because by then, Nanakaland was completely issolated from the rest of the world's economy. When the world's economy went down, Nanakaland's economy went up. Millions of people moved to Nanakaland and it was up to it's former power. It was almost a superpower that could influence future world events. Nanakaland modernized during this period.
World War II
When Japan was taking over much of the Pacific, Nanakaland was one of the targets. It was conquered and destroyed. The population was mainly Christian and was persecuted. Only three million survived. They fled to the Black Sea...
[Now comes NS history ~ 50 years later.]
Reconstruction of Nanakaland
Nanakaland became a member of the Black Sea Alliance in the region of The Black Sea. Since then, the Black Sea Alliance has fallen appart and its founder, Issachar, no longer exists. Nanakaland managed to prosper under the Black Sea and eventually regained power. Nanakaland was loyal under Issachar for some time until...
President Michael J. Smith
The newly elected president of Nanakaland brought great prosperity. However, he couldn't stand to be number two in the BSA. Nanakan loyalty soon shattered. Nanakaland eventually moved to the Heartland and prospered. It grew to new heights. However, the outside world wouldn't be so merciful....
Cold War
Nanakaland moved around a bit and soon gained loyalty to another regional alliance. It was in the cold war leading up to World War V. President Michael Smith grew greedy. He soon cut political freedoms and left the UN (which droped the economy). He narrowly beat Mankana Gan in an election, which led Mankana Gan to rebel. Mankana Gan was persumed dead (but is really alive as Agent Skull, one of the Illuminati) and Michael was allied with Drum Gods. He supported the GDODAD, which he thought was the winning side of the coming conflict. He was proven to be wrong....
World War V
WWV did break out. Nanakaland was neutral, but supporting Drum Gods through another alliance and rooting for the GDODAD. He was neutral until one day Nanakaland was invaded by Russian Forces (RF) who claimed Nanakaland was a GDODAD member (which Nanakaland was not). Nanakaland did fight, but the promised GDODAD help did not come as they were busy fighting on more "important" fronts. Nanakaland was forced to surrender. However, when the terms were outrageous, Nanakaland left for the Heartland again. RF claimed the conflict was going on. Meanwhile, a scientist in the Nanakan Highlands "accidently" froze the entire nation for a decade
The Resurrected Lands
Thanks to the great kindness of Lady Siri of Menelmacar, Nanakaland was unfrozen and changed it's name from "The People's Republic" to "The Resurrected Lands" of Nanakaland. President Smith brought up Nanakaland's political freedoms and eventually economy. He restablished NBC and MSNBC, he founded the city of Nanakan Labs, he opened new elections (and won by a landslide), he brought back prosperity to Port Nanaka by hosting the NationStates World Fair, he founded the Legion of Defence (LoD), he made many allies, and many more things in recent history (since November RL time).
