The Issue about Harry Potter

Cherion

I am requesting that the Issue regarding the Harry Potter books gets removed because it refers to christians as "Whackos." Me as a christian was offended by this, and have read all 5 of the Harry Potter books and liked them so trust me all christians are not whackos.

I apologize for all the topics about it my submit button wasnt working so i pressed it more than once and apparently it submitted them

Calm down, it's just trying to be funny. Surely you must agree that the people who want Harry Potter books to be banned are whackos. :P

Not necesarily. The books could go downhill alot in the future. Of course, based on the "summons demons to do his bidding" line, this isn't the case, but oh well. :)

It's an opinion of a made up person. You don't have to agree with them.

1st off, free speach. Anyone that would want to ban any book is a nutcase. There is no good reason to ban anything.

2nd off, It's funny, laugh.

The quote/opinion is not one that is supported by or condoned by NationStates or individual nations. It is one possible opinion. That's why you get more than one choice when legislating a response to issues.

Personally, I think you've taken this a bit too far and out of context from the playful, humorous manner in which it was intended.

My motto is: Regardless of what you say, someone, somewhere, is going to be offended by it, so stop worrying so much.

Ding! Ding! Get this person some sort of medal, he wins the "understands how the sarcastic Max Barry's characters talk" award.

Heh... Max Barry is all about sarcasm and exaggeration.

Hey, by the way Cherion, would you get angry if a writer had an anti-christian character? Because it's the same thing.

And I wonder, Cherion, would you have made the same post if the quote had been about 'Jewish whackos' or 'Islamic whackos' or 'Hindu whackos'?
Cherion
31-12-2003, 01:59
probably not because im not one of those but im sure if some one was one of those religions they would be the one making the post.

ok let me give u a different situation so we can get out of all the religious stuff.

if there was one that said (dont take this as anything this is just an example) "Certain people shouldnt be allowed to attend certain school because there not equal, like blacks"

how many people would take offense to that... a lot and thats pretty much the same thing for me

i used that example because a lot of people could possibly relate to that

Race and religion is different. All minorities in issues are made up.

Again, you're making this fuss over an opinion of a made up person.

If you read a book where a character said "All those Christians are whackos.", would you write to the author saying it's offensive and should be removed?

i know its a made up person i know its a oppinion but christianity is on its way to being outlawed. In certain States nativity scenes have been outlawed while manoras and crecent moons have not in schools kids are reading out of the quoran the Jewish Bible and learning the history of islam and judaism while all u learn is about all the different sect. of christianity. Kids are suspended from schools because they bring their bibles to school, and everything is about christians being whacko so what kind of christian would i be if i didnt try to defend it, even if this is a game and a made up person said that (which was originally written by a real person)

i thought the government was supposed to be seperate from religion, but all there really doing is trying to get rid of religion.

You are taking this way too seriously. It's a game. Lighten up. Oh, and on the question of what kind of Christian you would be if you didn't try to change the opinion of a non-existant person, which the inventor does not endorse, you would be a tolerant Christian who realizes the inventor of the site can say whatever they want to, and that you have a right to disagree with the opinion.

I used sarcasm which people have been talking about and guess what it was taken seriously

and that you have a right to disagree with the opinion.

and would u look at that im disagreeing so what exactly is our problem here that i disagreed and 'requested' I wouldnt be mad if it was removed i just hope the creator might consider it and realize that it could offend some of those who read it

(how do u get it to do what the other person said?)

im switching this to a new post in the Got Issues section so its in its proper place

My point is you have a right to disagree, and that's really about it. It's doubtful that he will do it, he has no obligation whatsoever to even consider it.

Also, anyone offended by a generalization of a character of an intentionally humorous game making a mockery of the real world needs to take a deep breath.

You had to agree to something very legalish when you signed up to NationStates. Basically, you have no freedom to protest on this website.

Actually I think the issue hits the nail on the head, afterall it is the Catholic institutions that seem to have a problem with the book. They can't seem to understand that fantasy novels are just that, FANTASY not the real thing. It's rather amusing. Personally I think it's one of the best book series written. JK Rowling earns what $$$ she gets from it because she is one extremely good writer! As a writer myself I must say that she is one of the best.

It is a different thing entirely, however, there are several issues regarding the integration of minorities or minority rights.

All of your posts regarding the 'outlawing' of Christianity is ludicrous. You make absolutely no valid points and your sorry attempt at fundamentalism does not go without notice.

Grow up, move on, and get yourself a life.

(Sorry, forgot to include this in the last post.)

To effectively use sarcasm, correct grammar is generally required. Without punctuation, its hard to tell where the stupidity stops and the sarcasm begins.
31-12-2003, 22:07
for christs sake, the person who made the issue is christian(or at least i would think max is...) its ludicrous that you say its offensive, unless your the only person on earth who doesnt ever get jokes/sarcastic comments/ farting around.

Actually I seem to recall Max saying he was Atheist somewhere. Really, if I were you I'd get used to seeing more atheists in the world. Population of people calling themselves atheist has doubled in the last 30 years or so. One of the side effects of improving science and technology, we DON'T have to turn to religion for everything to be explained. In fact, it's probably better that we don't. It's screwed up the world in one way or another way to long.

Note: This is not flaming. This is a statement of opinion. If you see it as flaming, it's not the fault of the author.

well, if you think about it, humanity usually uses religion as a way to explain certain things, like the creation of the universe, etc, and until science can prove all that, well, many humans will still look to religion as the guidebook to what the hell happened.
