Two minutes until end of twelve year cease fire
Seargent Foster stepped out of the buliding he was in onto a nearly deserted street. A camera crew was nearby, choosing him to film for a while, but no one else. He was in full battle armor, scanning every direction for any signs of danger.
A second later, he had it in the form of a rocket propelled gernade from a window. By sheer luck on the shooters part, it struck his helmet, killing him instantly and showingb the street with blood and brainmatter. Had it hit the chest armor or leg armor, Foster would have been hurting, but able to fight back.
It would have been covered up by the military immediatly, if the attack hadn't been caught by the camera, making a live report on how far peace had come in the wartorn land, how the military was no longer needed to enforce the peace and how the locals had no weapons stronger than sidearms. A second later the entire crew was dead from gunfire, but the camera rolled on, showing the gore and horror of what was happening.
The war had started again. The internal conflict which ravaged the Czekloslovokian region of Crimmond for thirty years and was settled by the Imperial Armed Force killing off the leaders of both sides and instigating a cease fire had started up again.
The fragile peace was shattered. Even from orbit the flashes from artilery and bombs could be seen across the countryside.
------------
One hour later.
"Aw, sh*t." Lord Tian said to the woman sitting across from him. "So? What now?"
The woman was in a Fleet uniform, with the symbol of a warrior standing on a dead dragon, CSS DOOMSLAYER circling it. "The war has started again. We have three options. Let them handle it and pull out," The way Admiral Telsia Munro said it, she hated the idea, "send in more troops to force the ceasefire," an option she condoned, but didn't like, "Or send in the Black Staff*." An option she hated worse than pulling out.
"I see. What about a couple Stars of Mechs?" he asked, making her jaw drop. "Now hear me out, I know that we have laws stating that a Mech pilot cannot fire the weapons of the mech he or she is in on citizens of the Empire... but what about a Star of R-Mechs**? The project is completed, we need a battlefield test."
Munro smiled. "Larea isn't going to like that..." She said. Munro had been teasing Reil about his Head of Interspecies Relations, staunch pacifist and current romantic interest ever since she found out about it.
"That's simple to get around. You have full control of the situation in Needles to deal with it as you see fit. You will impliment the R-Mechs of your own accord and never heard a word of it in this meeting. Say otherwise and..." He trailed off with a smile. The penalty for accusing the leader of the Empire without proof was rather harsh.
Reil turned to the video screen after she had left, "Get me the Black Staff." It never hurt to cover your bases...
OOC: *Black Staff: Crimmond Special Forces and Intelligence, named after a GDODAD(original) program for infiltration and data gathering that was implimented right before the alliance dissolved.
**R-Mech: Remote-Mech. Controlled by a pilot from a secret military installation, a mech is sent into battle without the worry of losing a pilot in battle.

"Ohhhh boy. Can someone get Richardson over here?"
The LCD screen of LORD-43* flashed with ID tags as computers analyzed the flashes of the battlefields as the reborn war light up the view.
The Chief Officer, Antonio Richardson, walked through the halls of the center, coming to the man's station. He cursed under his breath as the DIA sprung into action.

Reil cursed under his breath when he read the message. "All because of those damned reporters. This is the fifty-seventh attack like this, all the rest covered up, but damn the luck."
-----------------
Admiral Munro read the same message from her ship, the dreadnaught Doomslayer, orbiting directly above the area in question. The battlefields were magnified, the entire area on the main screen and individual towns and the city of Needles on other screens. "Send a reply... Assistance not needed at this time, but thank you. We hope we will not need it, but we will keep your offer in mind."
-----------------
In the area in question, two dropships swooped over the battlefield that was Needles, their engines roar making the pitched battle cease. Both sides were factions in the area and both sides knew that only the Crimmond Navy and Marines had dropships. They stopped fighting eachother and formed up to attack whatever the Empire had sent to disperse them.
What they saw scared the living hell out of them. The factions expected Assault Marines and Black Staff Assasians. What they got was a Star of Hunchback IIC Battlemechs dropping in the city around them, with a Star of Scythe Enforcer Urbanmechs as assistance.
At first they stared in shock. Then one of the Hunchbacks came around a building, targeted the largest grouping of fighters and fired into them with two volleys of Swarm Missiles.
They didn't fire a shot in return. They ran. They ran like there was no tommorow and the Devil was hot on their trail. That one volley killed fifty-nine and maimed another thirty. It was also broadcasted live to the major networks. Admiral Munro saw to that.
There were no major battles in Needles that night. The shock of seeing friends and enemies ripped into pieces by a machine with weapons designed to take out machines its own size...
The response the next day was a mixed feeling of outrage and glee. Outrage at the overkill and glee that the factions got what was coming to them.
It appears that bloodlust in Crimmond is alive and well, despite years of peace and tranquility.

Three Hours Later:
"How dare you let her do this?! It's unthinkable!" Larea dinAthos shouted. She was head of Interspecies Relations and Assistant Head of Foriegn Relations, in addition to being Reil's current girlfriend. And she was mad as Hell.
Reil shrugged, "I gave Munro complete authority in this matter. If I take that back, we could have another military resentment build. And we both remember how the last two ended..." He spoke, of course, of High Commander Andrew IV taking power from the first ruler, Vladimir Saratov, and leading the nation to war after war in the name of the first GDODAD. He also refered to the more recent attempt on his life by the War Council and the appointment of Warlord Goor as ruler. His rule only lasted hours before his death, though. Still, the effects of those events had shook the nation to the core.
"Bullsh*t! She is abusing her power and slaughtering those pe-" SHe was cutoff by Reilsuddenly standing up.
"'Those people' harbored the terrorists that killed my sister, among some 300,000 other people! 'Those people' have broken laws of the Empire I haven't even HEARD of! 'Those people' are no better than scum and deserve whatever the Hell Admiral Munro gives them!" He was doing more than shouting, he was erupting. Erupting with a fury Larea hadn't seen in months. One she never wanted to see again.
Lord Reil Tian was still out for revenge and he was going to get it.... no matter the cost.
---------------------
Two Days Later:
"This is Scythe Unit Four, taking light fire from a building. When the hell are these morons goung to learn EMP doesn't work against us?" A sound of weapons fire comes over the line, along with muted screams. "Gotta love these new napalm guns..."
The Scythe Enforcer turned away from the apartment building it had set fire to, stepping on a burned out police cruiser as it did so. A scream inside told that someone, hobo, faction fighter or maybe even a cop had been taking refuge there. The last mistake they'd ever make.
"Hunchback Unit Three. The fighting is heavy in North Sector 4." Static for a second. "Crap! I could use a little help here, these guys have a damn heavy Mech PPC! Looks like one of a Summoner. They have me pinned on a dead end side street, I need assistance."
Within minutes a barrage rained down on the PPC and the faction fighters working it. Ammo cooked off quickly, adding to the destruction that one of the Vultures, which had arrived earlier in the day, had rained down.
The military abandoned the R-Mech plan and had deployed actual piloted Mechs to hunt down the rebels. It just seemed mure brutal that way.
Brutal. So was the picture all across Needles. Mechs wandring the streets, destroying all resistance they could so the Assault Marines could shatter them totally.
The media fobbled it up like crazy, both critizing it to the extreme and praising the military for it's exceallent work, sometimes in the same sentence!
A very, very bloody war was starting...

Area formorly known as the Czech Republic
The city of Prague
Duration of fighting: 3 days
ETA of Imperial forces: 2 seconds
Mechs and Assault Marines began raining down on the city from three dropships. Another two dropped Vulture and Jagermech Artillery Mechs on the outskirts of the city.
All fighting ceased. That was to be expected, but it wasn't just most of the fighting... it was ALL of it.
"Hunchback Unit Sixteen. I'm getting no movement on my IR. I can see the faction fighters, but they are just standing there. Not one is running."
All across the city, this was true. Units checked in with the same info and the Assault Marines were stupified as they simply pushed threough the fighters with no sign of resistance, other than some hard looks.
It was too much for one Seargent. "What in the hell are you people doing? I am sort of suprised to say this, but... shoudn't you be trying to kill u-"
He would never finish that sentence. The fighter he asked would never be able to answer it. The mech pilot that first reported on the strange behavior would never know what hit him.
In other words... Three 2 megaton nuclear explosions racked the city. Hundreds of thousands died. Mechs and humans alike were reduced to dust and radioactive material.
------------------------
"What?! How in the hell did they get nukes?!" Admiral Munro was screaming at her first officer, who looked ready to scream herself.
"I don't know, sir. But we have three confirmed explosions in Prauge. The city is destroyed and the surrounding countryside irradiated. The entire military force was destroyed, except for a few of the Jagermech pilots, who are not likely to survive the radiation burns... Orders, sir?"
Munro sighed. "Get me Lord Tian. This has gotten too extreme."
-------------
"You can't seroisly be considering allowing this to continue! These people have done nothing to us, they are fighting a war that does no-" Larea was broken off from her rant, one of many directed at Lord Reil Tian, by the comm link.
The information that played on it silenced Larea and enraged Reil. "Admiral Munro..." He said after he sent Larea away, "begin Ortillery strikes at all major industrial and military sectors in the area immediatly."
"Sir? Are you sure? That will NOT look good with the APTO." came the response from orbit.
"I know how to deal with those diplomats, you just decimate the enemy."
"Yes sir... and sir?"
"What?" Reil asked, irritated at the questions.
"Happy New Year. It'll be one to remember, for sure."
Reil blinked as the connection terminated. Indeed it will, Admiral. Indeed it will. He thought to himself.

The CSS Delphinius, nicknamed throuout the fleet 'The Whale' as a pun on it's name and for it's extarordinary wide girth, rotated on it's axis. Lining up a few targets, it fored it's big cobalt core slugs at the surface, using lasers to decimate anything that survived those.
The CSS Doomslayer fired a couple shells as well, but at the private residences of the factions leaders instead of industry.
Several space stations, private ships, spaeliners, warships saw the rare sight of an ortillery strike. Those in the Empire and in all the APTO nations(should they be watching the Crimmond feed) saw the destruction from the cities themselves. "It was as if Hell itself had appeared on Earth," stated one reporter. "The destruction here is unimaginable. Death is everywhere." said another. "Holy sh*t. I need a new pair of pants. And I really doubt my insurance company is too happy right now." said another, assumed drunk.

No more nuclear attackes had happened, as the response had been severe enough to make everyone in the war think that it was getting out of hand.
Prauge is a group of radioactive craters, Needles is being routed with Mechs, ortillery rains down in a random pattern of strikes, the leaders of both factions are dead(or are playing dead), Assault Marines have taken three towns and a city with outdated(IE Moderntech) armor as support.
It was chaos, but it was obvious that the Empire was taking no prisoners and intended to make them an example to the rest of the Empire.
---------------
Lord Reil Tian reviewed the reports and smiled. The APTO hadn't seemed to notice anything, at least not according to the bug Larea's gaurd had on to allow him to listen in to the summit. Putting her there solved two problems. First she isn't around to hinder me and second, she'll make sure to steer attention away from the war.
--------------
Admiral Telsia Munro reviewed the same reports(minus the info from the summit) and smiled an ugly, unkind smile. "This will be wrapped up within a week or two..."

Lord Reil Tian looked over the reports from the war. 11,900 dead in Prauge from the nuclear attack. Thousands being killed elsewhere. This has to end soon.
-------------------
Admiral Munro scowled at the same reports in orbit. "Cease ortillery strikes." She says. "Let the ground troops do thier jobs. We're just on call ortillery now."
