One Who Wants the Cult of Rlyeh...

Rlyeh Cult

Must tell here why one should be rewarded with it, and must also show his or her knowledge of the Mythos right here. The Cult consists of a small amount over a billion people, and it is in a dire need of a new leader, as Nyarlanth the High Priest is fading away. Its economy is very strong, civil rights have become low and the political freedoms have dropped dramatically.

Well, I do not know much, if anything, about the Mythos. Therefore, I do not think I am the candidate you want for your nation.

Which is true. I don't think I know enough to effectively run a Mythos nation, and thusly I need someone with more knowledge over it than I have. No need to go to the letter of it, of course. Almost everything I have "RPd" with this nation have been non-Mythos related, and I want someone who can RP Cthulhu Mythos things to own this nation, and of course, make a new leader to replace Nyarlanth.

Well, if you can not find anyone, then I will be willing to learn how you would like your nation run, so that I could run it for you (if you choose that path). The decision is up to you.

I'll pass. Cult of Rlyeh sounds too much like Cult of Ragnos(Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy)

But Cthulhu Mythos has been around much longer than Star Wars.

I am going to wait until someone with knowledge over the Mythos comes by, and swears that he or she is not going to connect this Cult to his own "main nation" in any way. Rlyeh Cult is not to be used in some wars that do not concern it.

Apparently some mod did not realize that this was, IS a semi-IC/OOC matter, not an IC one, so now this is in the NS forum, not the gameplay forum I put it originally. Great.

So, no one wishes to call the Rlyeh Cult his or her own. I am rather disappointed. Should the Cult then cease to exist as a nation, and revert back to its more... International form, in which it always has been?

Rlyeh Cult is still in need of a new leader, but apparently not too many are interested. The conditions still apply, and I won't bend on those.

I'm not sure if I actually want the nation, as I would have trouble using and governing it(dismiss all issues), but I have a good knowledge of the mythos.

There are 3 outer gods, Yog Shothoth(Time), Azathoth(Distruction), and Shub Niggurath(Creation), and their messenger Nyarlthotep. They are mostly impersonal but occaisionally grant powers or kill people, depending on their vague and incomprehensible mood.

(I dont use the elder gods, as HP Lovecraft really didn't write too much about Bast, Hypnos, or Nodens)

Then there are the old ones like Cthulhu, Dagon, Tsathoggua, and Yig. They are trapped on earth until the stars are right for them to reawaken and be freed. Some are more active than others, walking around and scaring the beejebus out of people, and some are sleeping, like Great Cthulhu, and communicate only in dreams.

There is a whole lot of alien races with strange goals, chiefly the MiGo trying to gather knowledge, and the Great Race of Yith, who try to gather knowledge and also migrate accross time to inhabit new bodies.

The Rlyeh Cult is trying to hasten the awakening of Cthulhu(who may be a sorceror of some type to help free the others, but thats vague).

If I made a new leader for it, he would be named Ioprat, possibly a beast person like the family in the Dunwich Horror.

I do not want this nation just because you are bad at running it, as I will be very inactive with it, but if you are leaving I will take it.

"Bad at running it" basically means that after I had chosen the name I chose not to continue on the path of the Mythos in the first place, which made this... Let's say, less than satisfactory. I'm not *leaving*, but I'm trying to cut down and I wish to rid myself of the Cult, as I just have no motivation to continue playing with it. I'm looking for someone who would not be as inactive with this nation as I have been so I guess you would not be the number one choice, but I thank you for your interest.

Sod the Necronoicon! I got the quote directly out of "The Call of Cthulhu" in the book, "The Best of H.P. Lovecraft: Bloodcurdling tales of Horror and the Macabre", page 84.

Now that one crazy word. Even Gk//x'òma, which means "I'm falling" in one of my conlangs, isn't that outlandish.

Your book is wrong. The book is the Necronomicon, by the way, and the line is "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn". Weird, how they can have a typo of that sort in a frikkin reprint of a book.

But I am still quite serious about giving this nation to someone who shows genuine interest and knows enough of the Mythos.

Necronoicon

Oops!

Dropped the "m".

For the record, HP Lovecraft referred to the Necronomicon frequently in his stories and novels- often as another bit of internal history for the atmosphere of horror he tried to create. Other books, such as De Vermis Mysteries and Unsprachen Kulten were also used for this sort of "source material".

None of these books actually existed until the late 1960's and early 70's, when a bunch of people got interested in Lovecraft's work and created several different versions of the Necronomicon in lieu of the "real" tome- which had never previously existed. There are now several versions of this book around, all more or less congruent with Lovercraft's sketchy descriptions.

Abdul Alhazred- the alleged original author of the book- was one of Lovecraft's pen names when he was getting started as an author. He mentions this fact in a letter and describes his creation of the various mystic tomes referred to in his stories.

I've recently re-read several of Lovecraft's books (I have a modest collection) and Call of Cthulhu is one of my favorite stories in the collected works. A close second is The Shadow Over Innsmouth and The Dunwich Horror. I would love to be able to create an atmosphere of brooding evil with my writing half as well as Lovecraft did with his. This is my main interest in the country.

It sounds to me as if Sileetris would be a good choice to run the country, as I would largely use it as a venue for a series of short posts to develop a "Lovecraftian" writing style.

Actually, when the depression hit, Miskatonic U was forced to sell its copies of said books to extremely inquisitive buyers in Germany. These buyers were actually members of the elite and secretive council of mystics high in the Nazi regime. After the war, the tomes disappeared, and the secret councils that rule the allied states made it seem as though the tomes were completely fictional.

I'll claim the country in 5 days if no one else wants it.

My region(Relic) is actually an ideal location for it, as we have cyclopian masonry literally everywhere(hence our name), and we are in the Pacific. The cult being in Relic could be explained as a mass migration to a holy site by the cultists. I have some islands set aside on the bottom of the map if they want them......

TEO, yes, I knew that, but that still doesn't change the fact that it is Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn in Call of Cthulhu (the book).

Soviet Trasa, I have no idea what you're talking about, but I guess this horrible feeling I have and the fact that I couldn't sleep last night have something to do with it. And I played Rlyeh Cult as a modern day nation, and as far as I know, you're future/space tech.

Sileetris, you can't really claim the country without my consent, nor can you set a time you would claim it from me without said consent.

Gaah, I'm tired and I feel awful... And I can't sleep. And as a side note, it has nothing to do with alcohol - nor drugs. :-)
