This thread is for those that remember the HOUND (High Orbital Ultra Nuclear Device), the largest nuclear device ever constructed. The HOUND was basically the same as strapping a dozen+ nukes together and dropping them in one spot. The HOUND had insane yield, insane destructive power, etc. The HOUND was famous/infamous for creating massive (and I mean MASSIVE) craters when it exploded, and the radiation from the blast would linger for thousands of years. The HOUND was constructed to be the pinnacle of the (at the time) ungodly nuclear stockile of AMF. It was designed for 1 thing: to destroy. The HOUND was never used in a full scale conflict, but was instead used during it's testing stages on n00bZ. HOUNDS were sold in limited amonts to responsible people only, and althoug they've been scrapped, a few still remain locked up in hidden bunkers around AMF.
The HOUND was scrapped for the following reasons:
1. It was too potent. It's radiation fallout traveled hundreds of miles, contaminating other nations.
2. It was too impractical. The HOUND had a wee tendancy to kinda kill friends and foe alike in a large radius. It was decided that the loss of innocent people would be too great if the HOUND was detonated.
3. It was too dangerous. If the wrong person got ahold of a few HOUNDS, imagine the outcome.
4. It cost too much. It would be way more practical to use just ICBM's instead of HOUNDS. 1 HOUND basically equals 12+ nukes, so wouldn't it be better to have 12 nukes that could be detonated in 12 different locations as opposed to 1 big blast in 1 area?
5. It was obsolete. It was decided that blowing up whole countries was impractical, because the loss of people and resources would be well...stupid. It was decided that it would be better to capture land and resources as opposed to just making it all a crater.
6. It could never be used in a real combat situation. Again, too big of a boom.
Now, the reason for this thread:
Bonstock has created a bomb that supposedly dwarfs the HOUND ( http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2478422 ). I urge all that remember the HOUND to pressure Bonstock to abandon this project. I fear it will lead to more and more copycat HOUNDS.
