For those that remember the HOUND

This thread is for those that remember the HOUND (High Orbital Ultra Nuclear Device), the largest nuclear device ever constructed. The HOUND was basically the same as strapping a dozen+ nukes together and dropping them in one spot. The HOUND had insane yield, insane destructive power, etc. The HOUND was famous/infamous for creating massive (and I mean MASSIVE) craters when it exploded, and the radiation from the blast would linger for thousands of years. The HOUND was constructed to be the pinnacle of the (at the time) ungodly nuclear stockile of AMF. It was designed for 1 thing: to destroy. The HOUND was never used in a full scale conflict, but was instead used during it's testing stages on n00bZ. HOUNDS were sold in limited amonts to responsible people only, and althoug they've been scrapped, a few still remain locked up in hidden bunkers around AMF.

The HOUND was scrapped for the following reasons:

1. It was too potent. It's radiation fallout traveled hundreds of miles, contaminating other nations.
2. It was too impractical. The HOUND had a wee tendancy to kinda kill friends and foe alike in a large radius. It was decided that the loss of innocent people would be too great if the HOUND was detonated.
3. It was too dangerous. If the wrong person got ahold of a few HOUNDS, imagine the outcome.
4. It cost too much. It would be way more practical to use just ICBM's instead of HOUNDS. 1 HOUND basically equals 12+ nukes, so wouldn't it be better to have 12 nukes that could be detonated in 12 different locations as opposed to 1 big blast in 1 area?
5. It was obsolete. It was decided that blowing up whole countries was impractical, because the loss of people and resources would be well...stupid. It was decided that it would be better to capture land and resources as opposed to just making it all a crater.
6. It could never be used in a real combat situation. Again, too big of a boom.

Now, the reason for this thread:

Bonstock has created a bomb that supposedly dwarfs the HOUND ( http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2478422 ). I urge all that remember the HOUND to pressure Bonstock to abandon this project. I fear it will lead to more and more copycat HOUNDS.

Good points. There's another reason why HOUND could be scrapped:

7. Too hurtful to creditability, especially when you sell them. Just selling one hundreds-kiloton-class nuke would normally hurt a nation's creditability and reputation, let along selling a gigaton-class weapon in good amounts to other nations. Remember, the seller is putting the world in danger. Using them anyways, would seriously hurt one nation's reputation, therefore no one is willing to ally with them, support them, let along trade with them.

What's the point of keeping these anwyays? With thousands of nations having WMD and BMD (ballistic missile defence), the concept of deterrent and MAD are obsolete.

How about a UN-style comdemnation of these weapons. Pass a resolution that says that 'Large Scale devices that threaten the Earth are not to be developed by any nation'.

lol

Then, however, the nations would just leave the UN.

I bought one out of curiosity. Nothing like knocking some space nations fleet out of orbit. Basically a godmod against godmods.

ooc: Just to inform AMF, the bomb's name has been changed. Instead of WOLFHOUND, it is now "T-1."

And no, its not the same as your HOUND. It's not twelve nukes strapped together. Instead, it is 1 giant bomb that nukes and then destroys particles on a sub atomic level. It could be called "Anti-Particle" for this reason. If you survive the explosion, you wont survive the particle destruction.

ic:

The Bonstocknian government has announced that it will make a statement regarding the bomb T-1. It is possible that the bomb will be put into mass production despite international fears.

ooc: in international incidents. It will be set up like a press confrence.

The UN is about as effective as the Kampus Kops.

Wait AMF didnt you use one or two HOUNDS on Bisons when I rained unholy nuclear hell upon him? Oh wait you already said noobz....

Yes, the HOUND V2 was a cluster nuke device. Oh and New Empire: the HOUND was not a godmod. It was completely justified by people who I know for fact know more about nuclear devices than you do.

Omz: the HOUND was launched from orbital platforms and was propelled by scramjet engines. The thing would be going so fast I doubt ABM would touch it.

But it's all water under the bridge now, because the HOUND project is no more.

So you're saying space nations are god-mods?

All these countries with their nukes, what's with the fascination with turning 98% of a country's landmass into Day-Glo glass? You can't colonize nuked land, and most military aggression is to gain land and markets; nuking a nation is purely a waste of resources. On the other hand, precision orbital strikes to knock out communications centers and other essential systems, well... Those can be pretty useful.
I agree with AMF, do not build these "super bombs"; funnel that money into precision over massive weapons.
