[OOC] A good RPer or two wanted!

Okay, so I'm bored, I wanna do a war RP that doesn't fail miserably due to bitchfesting and wank (like Deimos and Phobos, they do things together.) So, it'll be civil war of a sort and I need someone to RP Montecito (or parts of Montecito) as it tries to declare independence and freedom from the iron fist of the Conglomerate. Although it technically is part of the Federal Government of Santa Barbara, it was really just taken over culturally/economically by the PrattCo Conglomerate's many corporations.

The current leader of Montecito, sorta, is Troy Pon, who lead it during it's formative socialist years, and was later bought/bribed/blackmailed into the Conglomerate's pocket and given a purely honorary title in the Conglomerate leadership. But he's old, and when he dies misguided Montecitans are gonna try to break away, especially now that the leader of the ITDO has been killed.

I say "try," because unless a bunch of other nations jump in on Montecito's side, Montecito doesn't stand a chance in hell of winning in a fight.

As a reference, Montecito has about 1.7 billion people, has never had anything above a "very strong" economy, and typically ranks in in the upper 90,000's for defense. Santa Barbara (the Conglomerate) has a population of over 2 billion, has had a "frightening" economy for most of it's existence, and has ranked in the top 50 for defense since about March.

And I don't want a bunch of nations to jump in, because then I have a bunch of nations jump in too, and it's a world war not a civil war (and collapses miserably due to the twins, Bitchfest and Wank).

I will be posting a nice detailed map and numbers for existing Montecito armed forces, such as they are, and cities and stuff, as well as a more involved RP introduction, soon.

So if you're a good RPer and interested in RPing as Montecito (you would also get in-game control of the nation) for a limited, hard sci fi future tech war, reply here or TG me. Otherwise I'll just RP with myself, and I'll be sad. Waaah!

(A note on victory and the end and such: The objectives Montecito might have are to achieve a military stalemate as a foundation for negotiating an independent Montecito, to topple the major corporate powers lording it over Montecito, to have a socialist/communist type revolution, or all of the above. An interesting twist might be that the Conglomerate response will initially be troops, and if that fails or goes on too long, orbital bombardment. I was thinking there might a "countdown" of a few days or weeks to this happening, and that every post might cover no longer than an hour's worth of time, but maybe not. I may just have all surface warfare from the beginning, for sake of being interesting as well as the fleets are currently going to Mars. Feel free to come up with ideas, I'm open to most anything as long as it's good RP and in character and all that.)

I'm interested in playing Montecito, as I've always wanted to play the weaker side of a civil war. Just give me a few details as far as the kind of future tech you play.

Some tech details, well "hard" scifi, meaning nothing that can't be explained with a reasonable amount of science. No plasma weapons, no hand-held laser weapons, no miniature fusion plants, no exotic (dark matter, etc) materials, no flying tanks or giant anime robots, no nanoplagues or ridiculousness in general.

However, I'm trying not be too limiting in my RP. The ITDO, for example, does have Menelmacari gravitics capability, and uses them for the large troop transports (replacing things like Chinooks). Nanotechnology is around for medical purposes, especially in cryogenics. Computers are generally much more intelligent and capable and omnipresent than today, the mainframe ITDO computer has recently achieved an ego (if not sentience), but it's an exception. Magnets and superconductivity have allowed fusion plants (large and expensive) and coilguns (which require lots of power).

Montecito however, will not be having access to most of the high end stuff. Menelmacari gravitics is still only in military use, and only by the ITDO; it has yet to reach ordinary people. Spaceships are expensive, but again Montecito doesn't have them. Montecito has been relying on the ITDO for it's main defense; it's own national military still uses upgraded modern helicopters, fairly modern navy, jets. Also, because of the ITDO's... policies... it's unlikely that Montecito will be able to get any of the ITDO units to defect to it's side; this is also guaranteed by the fact that the ITDO drew on Isla Vistan and Santa Barbaran populations for it's members, not Montecitans.

Generally, think of a tech style as shown in Minority Report, with some imported technologies and more space tech.

Also, as far as magic and other things: because of a recent awakening of a 40 million year old sentient psionic alien fungus, I am allowing for telepathic and similar capabilites in a minor role. The aforementioned fungus is the only one with anything resembling "mind control" powers, and that will feature probably more in future RPs than this one. Right now it's not bothering too much with human politics.

Hope that clears some things up.

I'll start with a map and some more detailed info on Montecito. This RP can easily have multiple powers competing within Montecito too, so it's fairly open in that way. I'll come back with the info and see if there's anyone else also interested, and we can start. Possibly a day or two.

A bump.

I've come up with great stuff for the map(s) so far.... buahaha
