Hockey Night in Kaze Progressa was awesome. Who wants to host this one?
Cockbill Street

Cockbill Street's national hockey team will be drafted off the streets shortly. As the streets are frequently covered with ice, games similar to ice hockey are not unknown.

Of course the Walmington Red Bears are keen to return after the all amature side qualified from the group stages last time around. Perhaps this time player-coach Mellington will even select professional players from outside frozen county Norbray.

Though TBF are a newbie to Ice Hockey we are not a newbie to international sport and would be proud to host this competition.

The Abysmali Abysmals will participate (a Rejistanian puppet).

The Tranquillitis Moose would love to rejoin and return to the lofty heights upon which they currently stand.

As for hosting, we would like to object to the Belmore Family as hosts. They may be experienced in international sport, but are completely new to the game of ice hockey. We would, however, support a Belmore Family bid for the 5th installment of the Cherry Cup.

Please include WW in the fourth edition of the Cherry Cup.

(OOC: Apologies for not RPing in the last tournament. A combination of vacation and a bizarre case of the flu morphing into tonsillitis rendered us unable to RP for Cherry Cup 3. We will be active in the next tournament.)
30-12-2003, 20:26
Trevorland will be there with bells on, again. The playoff appearance has Windsor buzzing, so an appearance will put Trevorland in an excited mode.

Kaze Progressa, once you're back: i've had a question from a potential host on how scores are generated. I was doing this manually, but did you run a spreadsheet?
01-01-2004, 04:42
I believe he uses a sheet, from what I've heard in the IRC room.

Update: Apparently I am the greatest so far. As it should be.
01-01-2004, 13:20
National team of Karantania, the "Karantania lynxs", will join!

A message from The People's Republic of Teakland

The Teakland Blue Spiders, who are so eager to play in the NHL that they started practicing last season, will throw their collective helmets into the ring. We hope to score at least one goal in our first season, and will have our skates as soon as next week.

Sincerely,
Donavan Greenwood
Minister of Sports and Recreation

Count the Progressans in!

KN: I did indeed use a spreadsheet. I'm not on my normal computer atm, so don't have access to it. Rejistania have it, however.

Dear Illustrious Members of the NHL

The Skaters are looking forward to competing against all comers, especially fellow DeCoSta nations Quality Assurance and Teakland.

From the desk of Lady Dominique Dufenetre, Baroness Systemmyst Downs, Minister of Sports and Gaming

To the NationStates Hockey League

We of the Nation of Quality Assurance do hereby announce our intention to field a professional hockey team within your league. We have constructed a full-sized modular sporting arena which has a capacity of up to 25,000, including luxury accommodations and seating for the well-to-do and a royal skybox (capacity 100) reserved for His Majesty the King and/or his designates. Concession includes a selection of snack foods of various nations and cultures. The entire arena is set up for wireless internet, telecommunications, and digital broadcast, both for television and for hand-held personal electronic devices. We also have full accessibility and choice seating for those with impaired movement.

Future plans for the arena include virtual-reality broadcast, trideo broadcast, real-time simsense rigs, and personalized digital sportscasting for skybox occupants.

Our hockey team, the Quality Assurance Testers, is comprised of athletic hopefuls from all walks of life and includes both men and women of legal age, medical professionals, and various cultural backgrounds. We trust that none of these will pose a problem for entry into the NationStates Hockey League.

For those of you interested, the spreadsheet for Cherry Cup 3 was based on those used for many other sporting events using the principle of 'attacks' - a random number is generated, subtracted from a number based on rank, and if the final number is positive a goal is scored. It's much simpler to see than to explain. The formula for each attack in CC3 was:

RAND*270-(200+rank)

and ten attacks were used.

Soviet Haaregrad
06-01-2004, 04:26
If we host then the tournament will be held at several large and medium sized venues in Soviet Haaregrad, Dill Row and Metropolis Industries.

The final playoffs will be held in Haaregrad City.

Walmington on Sea too is generally keen to see the tournament held in Haaregrad, after many calls for the nation to down-sticks should the Bears even be expected to play TBF. These rather harsh sentiments are born of a cricketing disaster involving TBF fans in a tournament of which WoS was part. Many fans (not Walmingtonian, thank God) were killed in violence, and war almost came of it (ooc:maybe it did come to war? I'm not sure).

"If that may happen to cricket, I dread to think what may happen after an ice-hockey game!" Exclaimed one Southshire County Cricket Club fan when absolutely not asked to comment in the middle of an Empire Service broadcast on the state of III Corps's North African fight.

PM Mainwaring is privately opposed to sending the Red Bears to a Soviet nation, especially in light of the UN's recent classification of the kingdom as a socialist democracy, much to the Tory PM's horror. Mainwaring fears that before Fascism is defeated in Africa Walmington may suffer a communist revolution.

Others fear that the nation is simply begining to take sports far too seriously, and that we should all be best served by a game of darts down the pub, possibly over a pint of Old Mave's Brown Ale.
06-01-2004, 06:24
WOS, may we buy your team a round of drinks on us? We enjoy as much as you do a good cold drink. Let us discuss our chances in the upcoming tournament!
Walmington on Sea
06-01-2004, 06:49
While some may question the ..coldness of typical Walmingtonian ales, the Red Bears are of course delighted to be offered a round. War-time Walmington does not permit such regular drinking as would normally befit amature sporting heroes.

(At least one or two fans of course have insisted that, "It's a trap!" but hey, who cares?)
06-01-2004, 15:37
We can assure you that we Quebecois are as honourable a people as you can find anywhere in NS. Believe me, the "Flying Frenchmen" as we are called, do love a good drink! This round's on us!

TBF would like to note that we are currently peacefully hosting the Field Hockey World Cup. We also would like to remind WoS that it was a lone Spaamanian fan that caused the violence and no Belmorians were arrested in Kaze Progressa.

Both candidates for hosting are excellent candidates. However, given their presence in the NHL since the beginning, the hosts for the next NHL will be:

Soviet Haaregrad

We encourage the Belmore Family to take part and re-apply to host season 5. Haaregrad: hopefully you can arrange with Kaze Progressa to get the score-generation spread sheet. Go ahead and start the next season at your convenience as soon as the present Cup's final game is played.

The United Socialist States of Digit4lis would like to participate in this competition.

Our Minister of Atheletics would also like your support in the foundation of the International Sports Federation. A centralized (off-site) host to all NS atheletic competitions.

(ooc)
The idea is to take sports sims/RP's off site so they're easier to find. The site will also have schedules, tables, results, forums. A central location for NS sports simmers and RP'ers to gather, instead of thread digging.

The Cherry Cup organizing team (Big Bobby Clobber, sole member) has reurned from a long trek through the Arctic in search of Soviet Haaregrad. Returning without success, Mr. Clobber has decided to award hosting duties for the NHL season four to The Belmore Family. The committee is grateful to the Belmores for stepping in, and hopes this is not one of those koolaid-drinking families.

Meanwhile, Greenland's finest hockey players are practicing hard in preparation for their fourth bid for the Cherry Cup. The three-time finalists hope that they will finally, at long last, hoist this damn trophy they paid so much to create.

Sliponian Hockey Association sends many thanks to the Belmores more stepping in so that the league may get started quickly.

Rejistania
02-02-2004, 06:11
The Cherry Cup is a virtual ice-hockey tournament. Scores are generated by spreadsheets based on rank, random numbers and RP-bonus. To get this RP-bonus, you need to RP a report of your matches. I'd like to give you a link to the previous tournament, but it happened some time ago so it isn't on the first 3 pages of my search list.
