NS II Handball Championships signup - FULL

Cockbill Street

It's back - one of the more anonymous sports competitions of the NationStates world. The first finals are about to be completed, so here is the new edition.

Americans and others, please note - this is Team Handball, a game rather similar to basketball but with football goals in the place of baskets and with a keeper guarding the goal. Not the handball played in America, which I think resembles squash but with hands instead of rackets.

The first instalment had 8 teams, and that was perhaps a bit too few. About 12 teams would be nice, as it would allow for a longer tournament.

Sounds ok, but how do you decide who wins a game

Sounds ok, but how do you decide who wins a game
Like in all NS sports competitions, it is decided by certain formulas based on
* rank
* RPing (if you RP your matches, you get a bonus)
* random numbers

Look here to see, how matches were RPed before: http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=104936

What Rejistania said.

BTW, here is the ranking after NSHC 1:

1st Rejistania
2nd Cockbill Street
3rd Sliponia
4th Kaze Progressa
5th Olympus Coliseum
6th New Montreal States
7th KOR3A
8th Eastern Newfoundland.

New nations will be given rank 9. RP bonus isn't quite incorporated into the spreadsheet yet, but will be before NSHC II.

Forgot to mention - anyone like to co-host and generate my results? I felt a bit dodgy when I got to the final...even though the fault was not mine, but the RNG's :)

Noted.

As the tournament is fast approaching (only two spots left now) I'll give a bit more info on the organisation.

Group Stage: 2 groups of 6 teams, best two in each group progress to the knock-out stage.

Knock-outs: Semi-finals, third-place play-off and final. All will be one-off games this year. Group A winner is drawn against runner-up in Group B.

Play-offs: The other teams play-off for ranks. Third placed team in Group A play third-placed in Group B, and so on.

RP bonus: All RPers in the last handball tournament will get a small bonus (roughly +1 rank), and so will those who RP a game here. As in the Football World Cup, you can't get RP bonus for more than half the total games played.

Schedule of group games:

[code:1:698be78e39]Rnd 1 Rnd 2 Rnd 3 Rnd 4 Rnd 5
1 v 2 1 v 3 1 v 4 1 v 5 1 v 6
3 v 4 2 v 5 2 v 6 2 v 4 2 v 3
5 v 6 4 v 6 3 v 5 3 v 6 4 v 5[/code:1:698be78e39]

Ranking system for NSHC III: Teams will be ranked from 1 through 12 given their results in the play-off. If the team that wins the third-place play-off has more points than the team that loses the final, the team that won the third-place play-off is still ranked third in this tournament. Add to this 1/3 of the rank in NSHC I (teams who did not play there gets a rank of 9 for that tournament) to get the final number of ranking points for NSHC III. For NSHC II, ranking is very simple - newcomers ranked at 9, all who come in from the previous edition retain their rank (at the moment, Rejistania, Cockbill Street, Sliponia and KOR3A)

If you want anyone to do your scores, you have good chance if you just go into the channel #wcc (World Cup Commitee, became someow the channel for al NS-sports) on irc.esper.net.

Thanks, will try that!

An RP thread will be opened as soon as we have 12 participants. I will put the link to the RP thread in this thread.

Seven on the pitch, preferably seven on the bench.

Short runthrough of other rules:

Played indoors

2 x 30 minutes of play (old football-style - no breaks except for injuries or cleaning the floor, which happens more often than you'd think)

Infinite amount of changes permitted during a match

No one except the keeper can stand inside the D (which is familiar to field-hockey-players - this D is 7 metres from the goal). If the defenders do, a penalty shot is given to the other team. If an attacker does it, and scores a goal, the keeper gets the ball and no goal

Quite a lot of physical contact permitted - as long as you don't start pushing people around.

Ball must not touch the legs

You may only take 3 steps with the ball

That's about it.

JOHNSON INJURED IN FREAK ACCIDENT

The first-choice goalkeeper of the NEWI Cefn Druids handball team, Trevor Johnson, has sustained a hand injury in the build up to the Handball World Cup.

Johnson, 23, was at home in Trevor City putting up a self-assembly shelving unit when he caught the fingers of his right hand between two of the panels, dislocating joints in his middle and ring fingers.

The injury has lead to Johnson pulling out of the squad. Ryan Langton has been promoted from the substitutes' bench to replace him at the World Cup, whilst yound Trevor Neville takes his place in the squad. The full squad now reads as follows.

13. Ryan Langton ( GK, 35 )
2. Trevor Lee-Davies ( LB, 28 )
3. Stuart James ( CB, 23 )
4. Dave Yeats ( RB, 29 )
5. Trevor Cannon ( LW, 27 )
6. Trevor Chapman ( RW,16 )
7. Rhys Chapman ( CR, 19 )

Substitutes:

8. Trevor Jones ( RW, 30 )
9. Eric Renton ( CB, 30 )
10. Trevor Ormillton ( RB, 27 )
11. Robert Thakes ( LB, 24 )
12. Trevor West ( LW, 22 )
14. Terry Hat ( CR, 28 )
15. Trevor Neville (GK, 15 )
