We like democracy... but that doesn't keep most of our allies from being totalitarian dictatorships.

(As a mod: Please put something more substantial than smilies in your posts. Just a heads-up.)
It depends on your view of democracy. If by dmeocracy you mean stagnant liberalistic democracyy, then no, the human race does not need it, it needs real democracy.
It depends on your view of democracy. If by democracy you mean stagnant socially conservative democracy, then no, the human race does not need it. It needs real democracy.
Fixed.

When you come down to it, the only thing people need are shelter, food, sleep, and hot monkey loving. All else is extra.

Do you even know what the word "liberal" means?

No, we don't. And to prove it, I shall not vote in your poll, and nothing bad will come of it :)
Having said that, democracy is the most consistently workable approximation to a social system we have yet devised. No reason to not try for better.
As leader of Akuma no Ie, I, Kusanagi Noakusei, fully believe that Democracy is a good thing. If foreign nations are democratic, they are weaker and thus more susceptible to chaos and strife, thus proving my point; that people need someone to guide them. That is why I am here. Any time that you depend upon a group of people to debate and form opinions, you waste time, money, and the final result is not even guaranteed to be better than something a single person thought of.
Thus, democracy in my enemy's nation is a good thing, and I say that there should be more of it.

I agree,in third world countries, nobody really gives a shit about the government type, only food, shelter, and medical supplies, are what people really care about.

It's all a matter of what people need and want, as well as their beliefs and expectations from life.
No. I hate Democracy. And I hate America. Allah forever.

what we need is a way for those of us who would prefer to be left alone
and uncoerced to be protected from being robbed of our freedom of though
by those who insist on being emotionaly attatched to some immagined
'devine right' to attempt to dictate everyone else's perceptions
whether this is done by and individual, a clique, or collectively
by society at large.
democracy does give us something we can do about the freedoms we
don't have. but why rob anyone of them in the first place?
we have in carlemnaria the ultimate democracy of everyone
minding their own bussiness and not attempting to dictate the perceptions
or beliefs of anyone other then themselves.
we do have elections
but shun political parties
and any more hierarchy then we can get by without
only enough to keep would be corporate entities from getting away
with murder while keeping the private lives of individuals 'deregulated'.
instead, every 19day month, the first day is set aside for public
assembly that creates the agenda for the local councils, electied
of by and for all the sentient people of whatever form, over the age of puberty, by plurality vote
