Christmas in Copiosa Scotia

The animated red and blue logo of Scotia Broadcast News, replete with white lights for the occasion, shows onscreen, accompanied by the network's three-note jingle. The image fades out, replaced with features anchor Susan Bridger. Superimposed on the bottom of the screen are the words "Christmas in Copiosa Scotia: An SBN Special Feature".

"Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. The trees are lit, the stockings are hung, and as promised, we're going to take a look at preparations across the country, and overseas. We'll start in Aberden, where surfers braved the less-than-ideal winter weather to enjoy a local tradition."

Cut to recorded footage of surfers on Aberden's West Beach, earlier that day. The day is clear, but obviously quite cold, as those surfers not out on the waves are mostly shivering in the lineup. Close on a waiting surfer, obviously cold but still smiling broadly. The surfer speaks.

"Yeah, it's cold and all, but there are some things you just don't miss, and this is one of them. We're just lovin' it out here. Christmas Eve Ride for life!"

Cut back to Bridger.

"For a moment, the men and women of our armed forces in Odessa, Ferrussia found time to get into the Christmas spirit and forget about the stresses that go along with being stationed in a combat zone."

Still images of Copiosa Scotian troops eating with locals in Odessa, with photo credits in the bottom right. Voiceover from Bridger.

"Many soldiers of the 6th Marine Division, deployed to Odessa to aid in defense against a possible Skibereen invasion, ate their Christmas dinners at the homes of grateful Odessa residents. A welcome break from the MREs, to be sure."

Cut back to Bridger.

"Even the federal government is joining in the festivities. Let's go now to Daiel, where the Assembly voted earlier today to celebrate with a very unique fireworks display."

Cut to a live picture of the sun setting over the DEFCLADS battery at the Daiel Air Defense Base, then recorded footage of a DEFCLADS test shot. Voiceover from Bridger.

"At 10:00 p.m. Capital Standard Time, the Copiosa Scotian Strategic Defense Command will begin firing minimum-power laser shots into the sky from DEFCLADS batteries all over Copiosa Scotia. With overcast conditions over much of Copiosa Scotia tonight, the lasers will create a spectacular thirty-minute light show visible across the country."

Cut back to Bridger.

"And later this evening, the undergraduate students of Askland Point University plan to host a charity dinner that is not only the largest in Copiosa Scotia's history, but believed to be the largest recorded charity dinner in the history of the world. Kevin McBride is live at the event.

Cut to Kevin McBride in Askland Point University's spacious dining hall.

"Yes, Susan, as a matter of fact, over forty thousand diners are expected tonight, and virtually every student in APU's undergraduate population of sixteen thousand will be on hand to help out. The average cost of a meal at this banquet would be about twenty plats, but it's all being provided for free, as well as transportation for many families from outside Askland Point. All this is made possible not only by the tremendous generosity of the Askland Point students, but by hefty corporate sponsorship, with companies such as Shelman Industries and Scotia Energy chipping in significant amounts."

Cut back to Bridger.

"An inspiring event indeed. Well, that wraps up our holiday roundup. This is Susan Bridger for Scotia Broadcast News, wishing you all a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year."

(OOC: Not an RP, really. It's just sort of a human interest piece on my country, an attempt to show something other than the military side of Copiosa Scotia. Comments, both IC and OOC are very welcome.)
